Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteShort answer: Starfield mods that remove or hide loading screens generally change the transition you see, not the time the game needs to prepare and load a cell. The author of Black Loading Screen Remover states that it does not make the game load faster, while Immersive Loading Screens describes any possible reduction as theoretical and very limited. Install these projects for a less intrusive presentation or more visible transitions—not as a frame-rate or loading-speed upgrade.
What “better performance” means in this case
A loading screen is the presentation Starfield uses while it prepares a transition. Removing the image, progress bar or fade can make the wait feel different, but it does not prove that the underlying work has finished sooner. A mod can hide a transition while the game is still preparing assets, switching cells or completing other loading tasks.

That distinction matters because neither documented mod establishes a meaningful performance gain. Black Loading Screen Remover’s author puts the limitation plainly: “THIS MOD DOES NOT MAKE YOUR GAME LOAD FASTER.” Immersive Loading Screens says its script changes could theoretically reduce loading time slightly, but that the effect is very limited. There is no supported frame-rate improvement, benchmark result or guaranteed reduction in travel time in the available documentation.
Use the mods when your priority is presentation: fewer conventional loading cards, a different visual cover during scene preparation, or a more continuous-feeling transition. Keep the original screens if you need a reliable indication that the game is still working or if you are sensitive to replacement flashes and blank screens.

How Immersive Loading Screens changes Starfield
What version 3.0 removes
The Nexus Mods page for Immersive Loading Screens lists version 3.0. It removes the loading-screen texture reference and associated background and progress-bar assets, allowing the world to render during transition periods instead of displaying the usual loading artwork.
The project also streamlines parts of the loading menu’s ActionScript logic. The author says the 1.1 script optimization could theoretically trim a small amount of loading time, but describes the effect as very limited. Treat that as a possibility rather than a measurable upgrade: the page does not provide a benchmark, a percentage, or a repeatable before-and-after test.
Why the Free Lanes note matters
The version 3.0 changelog says it fixed code-loading errors caused by the Free Lanes update. That is a compatibility correction, not evidence that the mod is faster. If your game or other interface files have changed since the page’s current instructions, check the mod page again before copying files.
What it is best suited for
- Players who want the game world visible instead of a conventional loading image during some transitions.
- Players comfortable managing interface files and checking conflicts with other user-interface modifications.
- Players who understand that a visual change is not a promise of faster travel, higher frame rates or shorter asset preparation.
How Black Loading Screen Remover behaves
The short-screen removal option
Black Loading Screen Remover is listed as version 1.1.1b and was last updated on 5 September 2023. Its removed-screen version targets short loading screens. Because that release is older, verify compatibility with your current Starfield build and other installed interface files before using it.
The author warns that removing those screens can expose visual glitches. One documented example is a brief star frame during grav jumps. The page also notes that first-person play may reduce some third-person camera artifacts; it does not promise to eliminate every glitch.

- Pilot and command the ship of your dreams.
The white-screen option
The alternative white-screen version hides scene preparation behind a white field while preserving long loading screens. According to the page, it produces fewer visual glitches than the removed-screen version, but the white presentation may be uncomfortable for people who are light-sensitive. It also does not remove the long waits, so it is a presentation choice rather than a speed solution.
What the author explicitly rules out
The mod page’s direct warning is the clearest performance guidance available: it does not make Starfield load faster. Choose it for the way short transitions look, not for a faster grav jump, landing or interior load.

Immersive Loading Screens vs. Black Loading Screen Remover
| Decision point | Immersive Loading Screens | Black Loading Screen Remover |
|---|---|---|
| Documented version/status | Version 3.0 is listed on the mod page; the changelog includes a Free Lanes code-loading fix. | Version 1.1.1b; last updated 5 September 2023, so current compatibility needs extra checking. |
| Primary presentation | Removes the loading texture reference and related background/progress-bar assets so the world can render during transitions. | Offers a removed-screen option for short loads and a white-screen option that keeps long loading screens. |
| Visual caveats | The page’s main caution is interface compatibility; it does not establish a guaranteed artifact-free result. | Removed screens can reveal glitches such as a brief star frame during grav jumps. First-person view may reduce some third-person artifacts. White-screen mode has fewer glitches but may bother light-sensitive users. |
| Interface conflicts | Can work with other UI mods when they do not also modify loadingmenu.swf and fadermenu.swf. |
The author cautions users to consolidate interface files and avoid competing installations in the interface folder. |
| Installation information | Place the supplied files in StarfieldDataInterface and apply the StarfieldCustom.ini archive settings specified on the current page. |
Follow the current page’s package instructions and consolidate interface files rather than letting competing copies overwrite one another. |
| Established loading-time gain | Only a theoretical, very limited possible reduction is described. | Explicitly stated not to make the game load faster. |
Installing Immersive Loading Screens safely
The exact files and archive configuration can change, so use the current Nexus Mods instructions as the authority. The following sequence reflects the page’s documented layout without guessing at settings that are not specified here.
- Check the current mod page first. Confirm that the listed version and compatibility notes still match your Starfield installation, especially if the game has received an update.
- Close Starfield before changing files. Do not copy or replace interface assets while the game is running.
- Open the game’s data location. The page directs the files to
StarfieldDataInterface. Preserve the folder structure from the downloaded archive when copying. - Apply the archive settings. The mod requires
StarfieldCustom.iniarchive settings. Use the exact entries and formatting shown on the current mod page rather than reproducing an outdated snippet from another guide. - Check for interface overlap. The project can coexist with other UI mods only when those mods do not also alter
loadingmenu.swfandfadermenu.swf. If another package contains either file, read both authors’ compatibility notes before combining them. - Test one transition at a time. Start with a save you can safely reload, perform a representative transition and watch for missing interface elements, errors or unexpected visual behavior.
- Roll back cleanly if needed. Remove the mod’s files and restore your previous interface files and archive configuration. Keeping a record of what you changed makes it easier to identify a conflict.
Installing Black Loading Screen Remover and choosing a mode
- Verify the release before downloading. The page lists version 1.1.1b with a 5 September 2023 update date. Because that is older than the current game, read the page’s latest posts and compatibility information first.
- Decide what you want to hide. Select the removed-screen version if you accept the possibility of exposed transition artifacts. Select the white-screen option if fewer documented glitches matter more to you and a white field is comfortable for your eyes.
- Prevent interface duplication. The author warns against competing interface-folder installations. Consolidate the relevant interface files so two packages are not trying to replace the same assets.
- Install exactly one presentation variant. Do not leave both alternatives active unless the current author instructions explicitly explain how they are separated.
- Test grav jumps and camera views. The documented star-frame issue appears during grav jumps, and some third-person artifacts may be less noticeable in first person. Test the views and transitions you actually use.
- Remove it if the result is distracting. If the white screen causes discomfort or the removed-screen artifacts are worse than the original cards, restore the original interface files rather than accepting an unreliable presentation.
Compatibility and troubleshooting
The game shows the normal loading screen
First confirm that the files are in the path required by the mod you installed. For Immersive Loading Screens, that is StarfieldDataInterface, together with the required StarfieldCustom.ini archive settings. Then check whether another interface package has overwritten the same assets. A normal screen can indicate an incomplete installation or a conflict; it is not evidence that the game is loading faster in the background.
The interface is missing or looks broken
Interface mods can replace the same files. For Immersive Loading Screens, specifically check whether another UI mod also modifies loadingmenu.swf or fadermenu.swf. For Black Loading Screen Remover, follow the author’s warning to consolidate interface files and avoid competing installations. Disable the newest conflicting package first, then retest with only one loading-screen project enabled.

You see a star frame or camera artifact
This is a documented trade-off of Black Loading Screen Remover’s removed-screen option. Try the page’s other presentation option, test first-person view, or restore the original screens. Do not treat an exposed star frame as a sign of improved loading performance.

The white screen is uncomfortable
Stop using the white-screen option if its brightness is unpleasant or causes discomfort, particularly if you are light-sensitive. The removed-screen variant has different visual artifacts, while the unmodified game avoids both replacement presentations.
A game update causes errors
Check the mod page’s current compatibility notes before reinstalling. Immersive Loading Screens’ version 3.0 notes show why this matters: its changelog records a fix for code-loading errors associated with the Free Lanes update. Black Loading Screen Remover’s older update date is another reason to confirm present-day compatibility instead of assuming an archived package remains current.

Newer projects aim at a more ambitious result than hiding a loading image, but they should not be presented as established performance upgrades.
Seamless planetary-landing work
A PC Gamer report dated 12 October 2026 described creator Frederik Wessberg’s seamless planetary-landing project as still in progress. The report says the project loads assets in the background while the game remains interactive and switches cells after those assets finish loading. Cloud cover helps conceal the visual seam; it is not a conventional loading screen. This was a development report, not proof of a generally released mod, a stable installation path or a quantified speed improvement. Read the current project status before treating it as available.

- TELL YOUR STORY - In Starfield the most important story is the one you tell with your character. Start your journey by customizing your appearance and deciding your Background and Traits. Will you be an experienced explorer, a charming diplomat, a stealthy cyber runner, or something else entirely? The choice is yours. Decide who you will be and what you will become.
- EXPLORE OUTER SPACE - Venture through the stars and explore more than 1000 planets. Navigate bustling cities, explore dangerous bases, and traverse wild landscapes. Meet and recruit a memorable cast of characters, join in the adventures of various factions, and embark on quests across the Settled Systems. A new story or experience is always waiting to be discovered.
- CAPTAIN THE SHIP OF YOUR DREAMS - Pilot and command the ship of your dreams. Personalize the look of your ship, modify critical systems including weapons and shields, and assign crew members to provide unique bonuses. In deep space you will engage in high-stakes dogfights, encounter random missions, dock at star stations, and even board and commandeer enemy ships to add to your collection.
- DISCOVER, COLLECT, BUILD - Explore planets and discover the fauna, flora, and resources needed to craft everything from medicine and food to equipment and weapons. Build outposts and hire a crew to passively extract materials and establish cargo links to transfer resources between them. Invest these raw materials into research projects to unlock unique crafting recipes.
- LOCK AND LOAD - Space can be a dangerous place. A refined combat system gives you the tools to deal with any situation. Whether you prefer long-range rifles, laser weapons, or demolitions, each weapon type can be modified to complement your playstyle. Zero G environments add a chaotic spectacle to combat, while boost packs give players freedom to maneuver like never before.
That distinction is important: keeping the player interactive during preparation can change how a transition feels, but the report does not establish shorter asset-loading work or higher frame rates.
Seamless Planet Takeoffs
A separate PC Gamer report dated 21 July 2026 described Seamless Planet Takeoffs as a beta project that keeps the player in the cockpit while the ship ascends. Beta status means requirements and behavior may change. Verify the current release, game version and installation instructions before attempting to use it, and do not assume that a visually continuous takeoff removes the underlying loading work.
Which approach should you choose?
Choose Immersive Loading Screens when
- You want the game world to remain visible during transitions.
- You are willing to manage
StarfieldDataInterface, the required archive settings and possible UI-file conflicts. - You accept that the author describes any loading-time effect as theoretical and very limited.
Choose Black Loading Screen Remover when
- Your main annoyance is short loading screens.
- You want a choice between exposed transitions and a white presentation.
- You can tolerate the documented star-frame or camera artifacts, or you prefer the white mode’s lower artifact profile.
Keep the original screens when
- You need the clearest indication that a transition is still in progress.
- You use several interface mods and cannot confidently resolve overlapping files.
- You are sensitive to the white-screen presentation or find the removed-screen artifacts distracting.
Wait for emerging projects when
- You specifically want in-world landings or takeoffs rather than a modified loading presentation.
- You are comfortable with projects reported as in progress or beta and are prepared to verify release status yourself.
What these mods cannot establish
Installing either documented loading-screen mod does not establish a higher frame rate, faster asset streaming, shorter grav-jump preparation or a universal reduction in loading time. The available pages do not provide a controlled benchmark, hardware comparison or repeatable timing test. A transition that looks shorter can simply be a transition in which the conventional screen is no longer visible.
For the same reason, buying new hardware is not a documented requirement for these visual modifications, and the available information does not identify a specific upgrade that reliably improves them. The practical decision is whether the presentation trade-off is worth the interface management and possible artifacts.

If you want to judge a mod on your own system, keep the test limited and repeatable rather than relying on the impression that a blank or unobstructed screen must be faster.
- Record which mod, version and presentation option you installed.
- Use the same save, destination and camera perspective for each comparison.
- Perform the same transition several times, allowing the game to return fully to control each time.
- Note two separate observations: how long the transition is visible and how long it takes before you can act normally.
- Watch for interface conflicts, missing elements, white-screen discomfort, star frames and camera artifacts.
- Remove the mod and repeat the same transitions with the original files if you need a baseline.
The first observation measures presentation. Only the second can tell you whether your particular setup feels ready sooner, and even that personal test is not a universal benchmark for other systems.
Bottom line
Loading-screen removers can make Starfield’s transitions look more seamless, but the documented evidence does not support calling them performance upgrades. Immersive Loading Screens offers a world-visible transition and only a theoretical, very limited possible time saving. Black Loading Screen Remover offers removed short screens or a white-screen presentation, explicitly without making the game load faster. Install with careful attention to interface conflicts, test for artifacts and comfort, and treat newer seamless-landing or takeoff projects as works in progress rather than guaranteed solutions.
