Those steps can help with a damaged save or an incompatible Mod, but they do not change the installed game version.
Can you uninstall an installed Sims 4 update?
EA’s current help guidance reviewed here does not provide a procedure for rolling back an installed The Sims 4 update. That is not the same as saying no platform could ever offer a rollback option: available controls depend on the launcher and platform, and the official guidance cited here does not establish a supported rollback method for every version.
In particular, the game’s Recover Save feature restores an earlier save point; it does not uninstall a patch or restore an older game build. Likewise, backing up or resetting the Sims 4 user-data folder affects local files, not the installed program version. EA describes the console edition separately from PC and Mac, and its console guidance does not explain how to roll back a game build.
What to do if the update caused a problem
Back up your Sims 4 user data
Before resetting or changing local game data, copy the “The Sims 4” folder from DocumentsElectronic Arts to a safe location. EA’s backup and reset guide covers this protection step. It preserves user data; it does not revert the update.

Test the game without Mods and Custom Content
If you use Mods or Custom Content, disable them and launch the game to see whether the problem remains. EA recommends checking with Mods disabled, then checking creators’ sites for versions compatible with the latest patch before re-enabling them. EA notes that unsupported or outdated Mods may cause gameplay issues and says, “By disabling Mods when we update, we try to limit any issues or problems with your gameplay.” Follow the current EA Mods and updates guidance for the steps.
If custom content is missing during the test, exit without saving before you restore Mods. EA warns that saving and exiting before restoring Mods and Custom Content may remove that content from the saved game.

Recover an earlier save if progress or the save file is the issue
- From the Main Menu, choose Load Game.
- Select the affected save slot and choose Recover Save.
- Choose a listed save point and load it.
EA explains that autosave uses one slot, replaced at each autosave, while manual-save slots retain several recent save points. Recovery changes the save progress you load; it does not change the game version. See EA’s save recovery instructions.
Steam: defer a future update, not reverse one
On Steam, the per-game setting Properties > Updates > Only update this game when I launch it can temporarily defer updates until you launch the game. It does not downgrade an installation that has already updated. Steam documents the setting in its game update settings FAQ.

Why the launcher and platform matter
The available update controls are platform-specific. EA’s pages reviewed here do not establish a current, EA-approved rollback procedure for the EA app, Epic Games, PlayStation, or Xbox. EA’s pack and platform guidance also distinguishes platform contexts; do not assume that a procedure for one launcher applies to another. Avoid replacing game files with downloads from unverified sources: the official guidance cited here does not recommend that as a fix.
EA’s September 22, 2026 update announcement directs players who use Mods to its Mods & Game Updates Guide for safely updating their files.
