On PC in The Sims 4 camera mode, hold the right mouse button and drag left or right to rotate the view. In Sims 3 camera mode, hold and drag the mouse wheel instead. On Xbox and PS4, EA-hosted forum guidance identifies the right stick as the camera control. Laptop touchpad gestures can vary, but Ctrl + right-click-and-drag is worth trying.
Rotate the camera with a mouse on PC or Mac
The Sims 4 camera mode

The Sims 3 camera mode
The gesture changes when Sims 3 camera mode is active: hold and drag the mouse wheel to change the view, according to the same forum answer. If right-button dragging does not rotate the camera, check the camera mode using the in-game camera controls and try the gesture for the selected mode.

Some touchpads do not provide a separate right mouse button, and their gestures depend on hardware and system configuration. An EA Forums helper suggests holding Ctrl while right-clicking and dragging. In Sims 4 camera mode, that method is described as horizontal rotation; Sims 3 camera mode may allow changing the angle in any direction. If it fails, check that the touchpad is configured to perform a right-click and confirm which camera mode is active. You can use keyboard controls for camera movement, or connect an ordinary mouse if the touchpad cannot produce the needed right-click-and-drag gesture. Use the right stick on console
EA-hosted forum guidance identifies the right stick as the camera control on Xbox and PS4. The exact mapping may differ with controller generation or custom remapping, so check the current in-game control overlay if the stick does not behave as expected. An older EA manual search result also labels the right stick “Zoom/Rotate camera,” but it does not establish a current mapping for every console and controller.

Know the difference between rotation, movement, zoom, and object turning
- Camera rotation: Changes the direction or angle of the view around the scene.
- Camera movement: Shifts the view across or through the scene. EA’s tips page lists arrow keys or A/D for left and right movement, arrow keys or W/S for forward and back, and Shift held with a movement key for faster movement. EA’s The Sims 4 Tips & Tricks.
- Zoom: Changes how close or far away the view appears. The same EA tips page lists Z/X or +/- for zoom.
- Build Mode object rotation: Turns a selected object in place; it does not orbit the camera. EA documents right-click or period/comma keys for rotating selected objects on PC, alongside console-specific object controls. EA’s object-rotation guide.
