Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →You can run a nonstop YouTube livestream of relaxing nature videos without leaving a computer at home by sending a rights-cleared playlist from a cloud encoder to YouTube. The do-it-yourself route is a cloud virtual machine (VM) running streaming software, with a plan to restart the software and restore the playlist if the VM reboots. That can reduce hands-on work, but a restart script alone does not guarantee an uninterrupted public stream.
Before you build the cloud stream
Check that your channel can livestream
YouTube says a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days to livestream. Its help page also lists 16 as the minimum age for livestreaming. Check eligibility before spending time setting up a VM; see YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Clear both the footage and the sound
Use video and audio for which you have the rights needed to livestream on YouTube, including the relevant territories, duration, and platform. Keep copies of licenses and permissions. YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder image, interrupt the live video, or terminate it. A license does not necessarily prevent an interruption: YouTube says a rights owner may also need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Check YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and confirm any allowlisting requirement with the rights owner.
Do not assume a looping format will be monetized
Whether a particular repetitive nature-video stream qualifies for monetization is not established here. Review YouTube’s current monetization policies and assess the actual content and channel rather than treating a continuous broadcast as an automatic route to monetization.

How the YouTube broadcast and feed fit together
YouTube distinguishes the broadcast viewers watch from the stream feed an encoder sends. In the Live Streaming API, a broadcast represents a distinct watchable video, while a stream describes the audio-video feed. A stream can be bound to up to three broadcasts, according to YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation. For a recurring schedule, you can reuse stream settings while representing each scheduled event as its own broadcast.
For encoder-based streaming, YouTube recommends RTMPS. It also transcodes incoming video into formats intended for viewers on different devices and networks; that does not remove the need to configure the encoder’s output correctly. Use YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance for resolution and bitrate rather than guessing from the VM’s network capacity.

Set up a do-it-yourself cloud VM stream
A VM is one way to host a software encoder continuously. The exact setup depends on the cloud provider, operating system, and encoder, so this is a deployment sequence rather than a provider-specific recipe. The available guidance does not establish a suitable VM size, region, monthly price, or guaranteed uptime for your workload.
- Choose the broadcast arrangement. In YouTube Live Control Room, decide whether you are scheduling a distinct broadcast or managing a recurring setup. Create or select the broadcast and its associated stream, and keep the stream key private. Use YouTube’s live setup guidance for the current interface and workflow: Get started with live streaming.
- Provision a cloud VM and persistent media storage. Choose a region and machine size based on your encoder and media workload; there is no universally supported size or cost in the available evidence. Store the playlist and any configuration needed after a reboot on persistent storage, not only on temporary local disk.
- Install an encoder that supports YouTube’s ingest protocol. Configure it to send the playlist to YouTube using RTMPS and the stream key from Live Control Room. Protect the key as a credential: do not publish it in a script repository, logs, or public configuration.
- Set output parameters from YouTube’s current guidance. Choose an appropriate resolution and bitrate for the source material and your available outbound bandwidth. YouTube transcodes for viewers, but the encoder still needs a stable, correctly configured input. For DASH specifically, Google’s encoder guide lists MP4 with H.264/AAC and WebM with VP8 or VP9 plus Vorbis or Opus; it calls for closed GOPs, recommends a GOP of about two seconds, and sets an upper bound of less than eight seconds. Those GOP requirements are for DASH ingestion, not universal settings for every protocol. Consult the DASH encoder guide only if you are using DASH.
- Configure the playlist to repeat. Set the encoder or playback process to advance through the rights-cleared nature videos and repeat them as intended. Test the transition from the final item back to the first, and verify that the audio remains present and at an appropriate level throughout.
- Make the process recover after restarts. Configure a process supervisor or boot-time mechanism to launch the encoder and restore its playlist when the VM reboots. For example, Google Compute Engine supports startup scripts that run when a VM boots; see its startup-script documentation. A boot script can restart software, but it cannot by itself ensure that viewers see no interruption.
- Preview and test before relying on the stream. Check the incoming feed in Live Control Room, confirm viewer access, inspect audio and video health, and verify the archive behavior you need. YouTube recommends setting up an encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time. Those are preparation recommendations for an event, not a guarantee that a continuous stream will remain healthy.
Plan for failures beyond an encoder restart
Recovery has several scopes: restarting the encoder process, restarting the VM, and responding to a wider cloud-zone or region outage. A process supervisor or startup script can help with the first two, but broader resilience may require persistent storage, health checks, alerting, and a design that can recover from infrastructure failure. Google Cloud discusses distributing systems across zones or regions for greater outage resilience in its reliability architecture guidance. These are design principles, not promises of uninterrupted YouTube playback.

Monitor the actual feed as well as the VM. A machine can be running while the encoder has stopped, the playlist has stalled, or YouTube is no longer receiving a healthy stream. Decide who or what will respond to alerts, and test recovery by safely stopping and restarting the encoder before making the workflow routine.
Common problems and what to check
- You cannot start a livestream: check channel verification and whether the channel has a live-streaming restriction within the last 90 days; confirm the account meets YouTube’s stated minimum age requirement.
- Live Control Room shows no incoming feed: check that the encoder is running, the selected broadcast and stream are the intended ones, the stream key is correct, and the RTMPS destination and network access are configured correctly.
- The feed works but drops after a VM reboot: verify that the boot-time job or process supervisor launches the encoder, that playlist files remain on persistent storage, and that the stream key and configuration are available to the process.
- A placeholder image appears or the stream is interrupted: investigate a possible third-party-content match. Confirm rights for both picture and sound, and ask the rights owner whether your channel must be added to its Content ID allowlist.
- The broadcast is live but viewers cannot access it as expected: check the broadcast’s visibility and the viewer access settings in Live Control Room, then preview the watch page using the intended audience context.
- Video or audio quality is unstable: inspect encoder output settings and the health indicators in Live Control Room. Confirm the VM’s outbound connection can sustain the configured bitrate; do not assume that cloud hosting alone supplies suitable encoder settings.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a hosted option for keeping an uploaded-video YouTube stream running without maintaining your own VM or encoder. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The service loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not go live from a camera and it streams to YouTube only.
