How to Run Multiple 24/7 YouTube Channels on One Oracle Cloud Instance

Run separate encoder processes for each YouTube channel on one OCI VM—but benchmark CPU and network demand, check Always Free limits, and plan for interruptions.

Yes: run a separate encoder process for each YouTube channel on one Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) virtual machine (VM), with each process using that channel’s own stream URL and private stream key. Whether the VM can handle multiple feeds depends on the chosen instance, video settings, and workload; there is no supported universal channel count. OCI Always Free capacity is limited and account-specific, and Oracle may reclaim qualifying idle instances, so a VM is not a guarantee of uninterrupted 24/7 broadcasting.

How the setup works

The OCI VM stays on and runs one encoder process per channel. Each process sends its video and audio to YouTube using the matching channel’s ingest URL and stream key. The workload has three separate limits: the VM’s ability to encode the feeds, its outbound network capacity, and YouTube’s ingest requirements.

This architecture is a practical way to organize the deployment, not an OCI- or YouTube-certified channel-count recipe. The official documentation does not establish how many simultaneous channels a particular VM can encode. You must test your chosen instance with the actual number of feeds, resolutions, frame rates, and content you plan to run.

Check OCI capacity before you build

Oracle’s Always Free Resources documentation lists up to two VM.Standard.E2.1.Micro instances and an A1 allowance equivalent to 2 OCPUs and 12 GB of memory for Always Free tenancies. It also lists 1,500 OCPU-hours and 9,000 GB-hours per month for the A1 allowance. These are account and service allowances, not a promise that a particular shape is available or that it can encode a given number of streams. Instances must be created in the tenancy’s home region. Check your own eligible shapes and quotas in the OCI Console before choosing an architecture. Oracle Always Free Resources

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

OCI lists 10 TB of outbound transfer per month for the Always Free offer. Treat that as a transfer allowance, not a guarantee of sustained bitrate or route performance. If provisioning returns an “out of host capacity” error, Oracle says the home region temporarily lacks capacity for the selected Always Free shape; try another availability domain where supported, or wait and retry.

Account for possible idle-instance reclamation

Oracle documents possible reclamation of Always Free compute when CPU and network utilization are below 20% at the 95th percentile over a seven-day period. A1 instances also have a memory-utilization condition. A running encoder process does not by itself guarantee that an instance is exempt. Review Oracle’s current policy and plan for the possibility that an instance may be reclaimed: Always Free compute instance reclamation.

Choose a profile and estimate the combined load

Start with a modest profile and calculate demand per stream before adding processes. YouTube’s H.264 recommendations below are per feed, not performance measurements for OCI. For multiple feeds, multiply the selected video bitrate by the number of simultaneous channels, then allow additional headroom for audio and operational variation.

YouTube H.264 profile Recommended video bitrate per stream
720p30 6 Mbps
720p60 8 Mbps
1080p30 14 Mbps
1080p60 17 Mbps

For example, three 720p30 feeds imply 18 Mbps of recommended video bitrate in aggregate before audio and headroom. That arithmetic does not show whether your VM can encode the feeds or sustain the network route; test both on the selected shape. Higher resolution or frame rate increases bandwidth demand and can raise encoding load.

Configure each YouTube channel

  1. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room for the channel. Create or select the live stream and obtain that stream’s ingest URL and stream key. Repeat for each channel. YouTube’s encoder setup uses these values to direct the feed to the correct stream. See YouTube’s guidance on stream keys and encoder setup.
  2. Keep each key private. A stream key tells the encoder where to send the feed and allows YouTube to accept it. Treat it like a password; do not place it in public scripts, screenshots, or repositories. If a key is compromised, reset it in YouTube and update the corresponding encoder configuration.
  3. Assign one process to each channel. Configure each encoder with only the matching channel’s URL and key, and keep the process configurations distinct. The specific operating system, encoder, and process manager are implementation choices; neither source prescribes one.
  4. Set the encoder to YouTube’s ingest recommendations. Use RTMPS where available, constant bitrate (CBR), progressive scan, a two-second keyframe interval (do not exceed four seconds), two B-frames, and one reference frame. YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio, with 44.1 kHz for stereo and 128 Kbps stereo audio. Choose the resolution and frame rate deliberately, then set the video bitrate to the relevant per-stream recommendation above. See YouTube live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
  5. Test each feed before relying on it. Use representative motion and audio, confirm the correct channel receives the feed, and review YouTube’s stream health. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health during the event. Test the full set of concurrent processes as well as each stream individually.

Measure the real channel capacity

Do not pick a channel count from the VM’s memory size or the free-tier allowance alone. Benchmark the exact instance and encoding workload you intend to use. Increase concurrent feeds gradually while tracking CPU, memory, outbound traffic, and each channel’s YouTube stream health. Keep the intended resolution, frame rate, codec, and representative source content in the test; a result from a different profile does not establish capacity for your setup.

  • CPU: Check whether encoder load remains stable with every process running. If it saturates or video falls behind, reduce the number of feeds or use a less demanding profile, then retest.
  • Memory: Watch use across all processes and the operating system, particularly on a constrained shape.
  • Network: Compare total outbound demand—including audio and headroom—with observed throughput. The 10 TB monthly transfer allowance does not promise a particular continuous bitrate.
  • Ingest health: Check YouTube’s stream health for each channel; a healthy VM does not rule out an encoder setting or ingest problem.

Plan for failures and interruptions

A process restart policy can help recover from an encoder process failure, but it cannot prevent a VM host or service outage, resource reclamation, account limits, network interruption, or YouTube ingest disruption. Monitor both the VM and each YouTube feed, and decide how you will detect a stopped process and restore service. Do not describe a single VM as guaranteed continuous uptime.

Common problems and fixes

  • “Out of host capacity” during provisioning: This indicates temporary shortage of the selected Always Free shape in the home region. Try another availability domain if supported, or wait before retrying.
  • One channel receives another channel’s video: Check that each process has the intended source, ingest URL, and private key. Keep per-channel configurations separate.
  • YouTube reports poor stream health: Verify the encoder’s bitrate, CBR mode, keyframe interval, resolution, frame rate, and audio settings against YouTube’s guidance. Test again and inspect the stream’s health status.
  • Feeds stutter when more processes start: Compare CPU and outbound network use with the single-feed test. Reduce the number of concurrent feeds or select a lighter profile, then benchmark again; no generic OCI channel maximum is established.
  • A stream key may have leaked: Reset the affected key in YouTube and replace it in that channel’s encoder configuration.
  • An Always Free instance disappears or is reclaimed: Check the tenancy’s instance status and Oracle’s current reclamation policy. A continuously running process is not a guarantee against reclamation.

Copyright and YouTube policy still apply

Keeping a channel live around the clock does not grant rights to the material in the stream or ensure that YouTube will accept it for monetization. Use video and audio you have rights to stream, and review YouTube’s current copyright and channel monetization policies—especially if your programming repeats prerecorded material. The OCI setup only transports the feed; it does not clear rights or determine whether content meets YouTube’s rules.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is a 24/7 YouTube stream of uploaded video rather than managing VM capacity and encoder processes, StreamNeo is a cloud service that loops uploaded videos or playlists after you add your YouTube stream key. Upload, add the stream key, and go live; your computer does not need to stay on. It supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, without re-encoding or quality tiers, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. For Indian creators, UPI is supported. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
