Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallYes—you can run WordPress and a Node.js application on one VPS. A practical layout is Ubuntu LTS with Nginx accepting ports 80 and 443, PHP-FPM serving WordPress, Node.js listening only on 127.0.0.1:3000, MySQL serving WordPress, and MongoDB serving the Node application. Keep both databases on local sockets or loopback, run every application as a non-root service, and let systemd supervise the processes.
Antihost offers managed WordPress hosting with free migration, one-click staging and a 14-day free trial.
This is a compact, cost-efficient arrangement for modest workloads. It is not the same as having isolated servers: CPU, memory, storage, the kernel, and the failure domain are shared. A misbehaving plugin, an oversized database cache, or a full disk can affect every service. Build it with conservative limits, monitoring, tested backups, and a documented recovery path.

Use hostnames to make the traffic paths explicit. For example, wp.example.com can serve WordPress while app.example.com serves the Node.js application.
| Component | Role | Recommended exposure |
|---|---|---|
| Nginx | Public web server, TLS terminator, and reverse proxy | Public TCP 80 and 443 |
| PHP-FPM | Executes WordPress PHP files | Unix socket or local socket; never public |
| MySQL | WordPress database | Local socket or loopback only |
| Node.js | Runs the JavaScript application and its HTTP API | 127.0.0.1:3000 (or another local port) |
| MongoDB | Document database for the Node.js application | 127.0.0.1 on a single-host deployment |
| systemd | Starts, stops, restarts, and logs services | Local service manager |
A request to https://wp.example.com reaches Nginx, which sends PHP files to the matching PHP-FPM socket. A request to https://app.example.com is proxied to the Node process on loopback. Neither browser traffic nor an internet scanner can connect directly to MySQL, MongoDB, or the Node port when the firewall and bind addresses are configured correctly.

Check versions and platform support first
Start with a currently supported 64-bit Ubuntu LTS release. Record the exact Ubuntu, PHP, database, Node.js, and MongoDB versions in your deployment notes, and pin the Node.js major version required by the application. Do not allow unattended upgrades to silently move a production runtime between major versions.
WordPress requirements
WordPress.org’s 2026 requirements guidance recommends PHP 8.3 or newer, MariaDB 10.11 or newer or MySQL 8.0 or newer, and HTTPS. It recommends Apache or Nginx and warns that legacy PHP and MySQL releases are end of life. The WordPress advanced administration handbook, updated December 17, 2025, also lists PHP, MySQL or MariaDB, HTTPS, and shell or equivalent access as installation requirements.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsMongoDB and Ubuntu
MongoDB’s 2026 Ubuntu guide for MongoDB 8.0 lists Ubuntu 20.04, 22.04, and 24.04 64-bit releases as supported targets. Install the official mongodb-org packages from MongoDB’s repository rather than an unrelated third-party build.
Node.js
Choose a supported Node.js release line and keep the major version consistent with the application and its lockfile. Node.js is a cross-platform runtime with non-blocking I/O, which makes it suitable for network and database work, but asynchronous I/O does not remove CPU, memory, or database limits.
Decide whether one VPS is appropriate
A single host is reasonable when traffic is modest, the applications can tolerate a shared failure domain, and you are prepared to administer the operating system and databases. It is a poor fit when either application requires independent scaling, strict isolation, high availability, or a recovery-time objective that one machine cannot meet.
Shared-resource risks
- PHP-FPM workers, MySQL buffer pools, the Node.js heap, and MongoDB’s cache all consume RAM at the same time.
- Media uploads, database files, logs, and backups compete for storage capacity and disk I/O.
- A runaway process, kernel issue, provider outage, or accidental firewall change can take down both applications.
- Maintenance windows affect every service unless you have a second host or managed replacement ready.
There is no universal “right” RAM or CPU size. Measure traffic, WordPress plugins, media volume, Node.js concurrency, MongoDB indexes, backup retention, and acceptable recovery time. Begin with conservative worker counts, observe memory pressure and disk latency, and increase capacity when measurements—not guesswork—show that the host is constrained. Swap can prevent an immediate out-of-memory crash, but it is an emergency cushion, not a replacement for RAM.

Build the host in a controlled sequence
1. Provision Ubuntu and a non-root administrator
- Deploy a supported 64-bit Ubuntu LTS image.
- Create a named administrator with
sudoaccess and use SSH keys wherever possible. Disable password authentication only after confirming key-based login from a second session. - Apply operating-system updates and reboot if the kernel or core libraries require it.
- Write down the hostname, public IP, private IP (if supplied), DNS records, and the versions you intend to install.
Do not run WordPress, Node.js, MySQL, or MongoDB as root. The administrator account is for controlled maintenance; each application should later receive its own Unix and database identity.

2. Set the firewall before installing public services
Allow SSH only from a trusted source when your provider or firewall supports source restrictions. Allow TCP 80 and 443 for web traffic. Do not open TCP 3306 (MySQL), TCP 27017 (MongoDB), or the Node.js port to the internet.
After applying the rules, test SSH from a separate terminal before closing the original session. Keep a provider console or out-of-band recovery method available in case a firewall rule locks you out.
3. Install Nginx, PHP-FPM, and WordPress extensions
Install Nginx and the PHP-FPM package for the PHP version selected to satisfy WordPress’s current baseline. Add the PHP extensions required by WordPress and by the plugins you have approved. Package names differ between Ubuntu releases, so verify that the FPM service and socket correspond to the installed PHP version.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Create a dedicated web root such as /srv/www/wp.example.com. Keep the Node.js source outside this directory; Nginx must not be able to serve your Node application’s source, environment files, or dependency tree as static content.
A minimal WordPress server block has three jobs: select the domain, serve static files, and pass PHP scripts to the matching FPM socket. The socket path below is an example for PHP 8.3; use the path created by your installed package.
server {
listen 80;
server_name wp.example.com;
root /srv/www/wp.example.com;
index index.php index.html;
location / {
try_files $uri $uri/ /index.php?$args;
}
location ~ .php$ {
include snippets/fastcgi-php.conf;
fastcgi_pass unix:/run/php/php8.3-fpm.sock;
}
}
Validate the configuration with sudo nginx -t before reloading Nginx. Use a separate server block for the Node hostname rather than mixing application roots and PHP locations.
4. Install and harden MySQL for WordPress
Ubuntu documents installation with:
sudo apt install mysql-server
Check the service with systemd and inspect configuration under /etc/mysql/. Run the distribution’s MySQL hardening flow, remove anonymous accounts and test access, and keep the listener local unless a specific trusted private host must connect.

Create a database and a least-privilege account used only by WordPress. Run the SQL as an administrator, substituting a long, unique secret in the password field:
CREATE DATABASE wordpress_db CHARACTER SET utf8mb4 COLLATE utf8mb4_unicode_ci;
CREATE USER 'wp_app'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'CHANGE_ME_LONG_RANDOM_PASSWORD';
GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON wordpress_db.* TO 'wp_app'@'localhost';
FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
Use the database name, username, password, and local host value in the WordPress installer. Do not reuse the MySQL administrator account for the website.
5. Download and configure WordPress
- Download WordPress from WordPress.org and extract it into
/srv/www/wp.example.com. - Set ownership so the web process can read the application and write only the directories that genuinely need writes, such as uploads. Avoid making the entire web root broadly writable.
- Point the
wp.example.comDNS record to the VPS and confirm that Nginx serves the intended directory. - Complete the browser installer over HTTPS with the
wordpress_dbdatabase andwp_appaccount. - Use unique administrator credentials, remove unused plugins and themes, and keep the WordPress core, plugins, and themes on a planned update schedule.
Do not place backups, SQL dumps, private keys, or environment files inside the public web root. If a plugin requires filesystem writes, grant the smallest directory-level permission that works and review it after installation.
6. Deploy Node.js as a separate service
Install Node.js and npm using the release method chosen for the project. Build or deploy the application under a path such as /srv/node-app, create a dedicated Unix user such as nodeapp, and store secrets in a root-readable environment file outside the web root.
Have the application listen on loopback, not on a public interface:
server.listen(3000, '127.0.0.1');
A systemd unit should define the working directory, user, environment file, restart behavior, and a bounded logging destination. For example:
[Unit]
Description=Node application
After=network.target mongod.service
[Service]
Type=simple
User=nodeapp
WorkingDirectory=/srv/node-app
EnvironmentFile=/etc/node-app.env
ExecStart=/usr/bin/node /srv/node-app/server.js
Restart=on-failure
RestartSec=5
[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
After placing the unit under /etc/systemd/system/node-app.service, reload systemd, enable the service at boot, start it, and inspect its status and journal. Confirm that the process is bound to 127.0.0.1:3000 before adding the public proxy.

7. Install MongoDB and keep it private
Configure MongoDB’s official repository for the Ubuntu release, install mongodb-org, and enable and start mongod. The default bindIp is 127.0.0.1, which permits same-machine clients while preventing direct remote connections.
Create an application database user while access is still local, then enable authorization in /etc/mongod.conf. The relevant controls are:
net:
bindIp: 127.0.0.1
security:
authorization: enabled
Restart MongoDB and test authentication from the Node application. Keep credentials in the protected environment file, not in source code or a file served by Nginx.
If a separate application host is introduced later, bind MongoDB only to a private interface, restrict the firewall to that host’s private address, require authorization, and use TLS where appropriate. Never bind an unauthenticated MongoDB listener to a public IP. MongoDB’s documentation explicitly requires securing a deployment before binding it to a publicly accessible address.

Add a second Nginx server block for app.example.com. Terminate TLS at Nginx and proxy to the loopback process. HTTP applications need the usual forwarding headers; WebSocket applications also need the connection upgrade headers.
server {
listen 80;
server_name app.example.com;
location / {
proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:3000;
proxy_http_version 1.1;
proxy_set_header Host $host;

proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for;
proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-Proto $scheme;
proxy_set_header Upgrade $http_upgrade;
proxy_set_header Connection "upgrade";
}
}
Use sudo nginx -t and reload only after the syntax check succeeds. Configure the Node framework to trust the proxy only as appropriate for your topology so that secure-cookie and client-IP handling are correct.
9. Enable HTTPS and verify renewal
Obtain certificates for both hostnames with your chosen ACME-compatible tooling, redirect HTTP to HTTPS after issuance, and enable automatic renewal. A scheduled renewal job is not proof of success: perform a renewal dry run, inspect the certificate dates, and monitor expiry.

Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
WordPress should use HTTPS for the site and administration URLs. Confirm that the Node application also generates secure URLs and cookies when it receives the X-Forwarded-Proto: https header from Nginx.

10. Add operations before calling the server production-ready
- Back up WordPress files, the MySQL database, MongoDB data, and Nginx/systemd configuration to off-server storage.
- Rotate logs and cap application log growth so a verbose error cannot fill the root filesystem.
- Monitor service health, memory pressure, disk utilization, disk latency, failed SSH logins, certificate expiry, and backup freshness.
- Schedule patch windows for Ubuntu, Nginx, PHP, WordPress, Node.js dependencies, MySQL, and MongoDB.
- Restore each backup on a separate host and record the exact recovery steps, including DNS changes and secret restoration.
Secure the database and service boundaries
Network exposure
The public firewall should expose only SSH (preferably to trusted source addresses), HTTP, and HTTPS. MySQL, MongoDB, PHP-FPM sockets, and the Node port remain private. For administration from another machine, use an SSH tunnel or a private network instead of opening database ports globally.
Identity and permissions
Use separate Unix users for the web process and Node.js, and separate database users for WordPress and the Node application. Store secrets outside both web roots with restrictive file permissions. Review ownership after deployments so a package install or archive extraction does not accidentally make private files readable by Nginx.
Updates and supply chain
Track the major version of every runtime and record why each version was selected. Apply security updates on a planned schedule, test WordPress plugin and Node dependency updates before production, and remove packages and services that are no longer needed.
Capacity planning and failure handling
Measure before changing limits. Useful signals include PHP-FPM queueing, MySQL slow queries, Node event-loop delay and heap usage, MongoDB cache pressure and index performance, disk latency, and sustained memory swap activity.
| Symptom | Likely pressure point | First response |
|---|---|---|
| 502 or 504 responses from WordPress | PHP-FPM workers exhausted, a slow database query, or a stopped FPM service | Check the FPM service and logs, inspect worker saturation, and review slow queries before increasing worker counts. |
| 502 responses from the Node hostname | Node service stopped, crashed, or is listening on the wrong address or port | Inspect systemctl status node-app, its journal, and the listening socket; verify the Nginx upstream matches the service. |
| Both applications become slow together | RAM exhaustion, CPU contention, or storage latency on the shared VPS | Check memory pressure, swap activity, CPU load, and disk latency; reduce concurrency or move a workload to another host. |
| MongoDB connection refused | mongod stopped, authorization mismatch, or an incorrect bind address |
Check systemd status and MongoDB logs, then verify the application credentials and local connection string. |
| Backups succeed but restoration fails | Untested procedure, missing configuration, or inaccessible secrets | Run a complete restore drill on a separate host and document every required file, credential, and DNS step. |
Separate application data and backups from the live root disk when the provider supports additional volumes or attached storage. An off-server copy is essential: a backup stored only on the VPS shares its failure domain.
When to split services or use managed databases
Consider separate hosts when WordPress and Node.js need independent maintenance windows, one workload has unpredictable bursts, database I/O interferes with web requests, or a security boundary requires it. A managed MongoDB service can remove installation, patching, and some backup duties, but it introduces network latency, provider-specific limits, recurring cost, and a new dependency. Compare alternatives on the same criteria rather than choosing by product label.
Quick Recap
| Decision axis | One VPS | Separate hosts or managed service |
|---|---|---|
| Failure isolation | All services share one failure domain | Failure can be contained to one component, depending on design |
| Resource headroom | CPU, RAM, and I/O are shared | Resources can be sized independently |
| Operations | You patch and back up the full stack | Some providers handle database maintenance, but you still manage application integration and recovery |
| Database exposure | Local sockets and loopback are simple to protect | Private networking, firewall rules, TLS, and credentials become more important |
| Scaling path | Vertical scaling or migration to another VPS | Independent vertical or horizontal scaling is easier |
| Cost and latency | Usually simpler and lower overhead; local database calls are fast | More infrastructure and possible network latency, balanced against isolation and support |
Production readiness checklist
- Ubuntu LTS is current, 64-bit, patched, and administered through a non-root sudo account.
- SSH, HTTP, and HTTPS are the only publicly reachable services, with SSH source restrictions where possible.
- Nginx passes configuration tests and serves separate WordPress and Node hostnames.
- WordPress meets the current PHP, MySQL or MariaDB, and HTTPS requirements.
- PHP-FPM uses the intended socket; Node.js listens on loopback; systemd restarts both services.
- MySQL and MongoDB use separate least-privilege accounts and remain off the public network.
- MongoDB authorization is enabled before any non-loopback binding is considered.
- Secrets are outside web roots with restrictive permissions.
- TLS renewal has been tested, not merely scheduled.
- WordPress files, MySQL, MongoDB, and configuration are backed up off-server.
- A restore has been completed on a separate host and the recovery runbook is current.
- Memory, disk, service health, login failures, certificate expiry, and backup freshness are monitored.
