To see how many people are playing a Steam game right now, open Steam Charts and check the Most Played list. For current players alongside that game’s highest count today, use Steam’s Game and Player Statistics page and find Top games by current player count.
Check Steam’s Most Played chart
- Open Steam Charts.
- Look at the Most Played list. It ranks the top 100 games by the number of players in-game at that moment, according to Steam’s September 22, 2022 announcement.
- Find the game you want and read its displayed player count. The count and ranking change as players come and go.
See current players and today’s peak
Steam also provides a Game and Player Statistics page. Find Top games by current player count to see the Current Players and Peak Today columns. The page’s figures are snapshots; its result displayed an update time of October 7, 2026, so check the live page for the current values.
Know which player-count measure you are reading
- Current players: the number of players in-game at the time the chart is checked.
- Peak Today: the highest player count reached during the day, as labeled on Steam’s statistics page.
- Daily players: Steam’s chart announcement says readers can switch to a daily-player view, which ranks games by the total number of unique players over the past 24 hours. This is not the same as the number online at one instant.
When comparing games, use the same measure and check them at roughly the same time. If you quote a count, include when you checked it and whether it is a current count, a daily peak, or a 24-hour unique-player figure.
What if a game is missing?
The Most Played chart shows the top 100 games, not every title on Steam. A game’s absence from that list does not mean its player count is zero; it may simply fall outside the displayed chart. Steam’s announcement describes the Most Played list as a ranking of those top 100 games.
