Why an older world may not show a seed
Terraria stores seeds for worlds created in version 1.3.4 or later. A world made before 1.3.4 has no stored seed for the game to display, even though a seed was used when the world was generated. In that case, you cannot retrieve it through the world-selection menu.

When setting up a new world, select the seed icon beside the World Seed field to open the Seed Menu. It is a separate setup control, not the way to reveal the seed of an existing world. Terraria’s developer described the menu as a place to select special seeds in its 1.4.5 announcement.
