In Fortnite’s May 2025 instructions, you first recruited Darth Vader in Battle Royale, then pressed the special Darth Vader button shown on screen to speak with him. Your squad could take turns. That announcement does not confirm the conversational AI is available now, so check for Vader and an AI conversation prompt in your current mode or event before following those steps.

The documented conversation feature was announced on May 16, 2025. Epic’s announcement described Vader returning as a Battle Royale boss and said the first player or squad to recruit him could speak with him. Availability today is not established by that announcement. StarWars.com announced new Fortnite Star Wars experiences in May 2026, including the four-player cooperative island Escape Vader, but did not say that the earlier conversational AI had returned. Check Fortnite’s current event information or look for an in-game prompt; the island announcement alone does not confirm the AI conversation is live. How the documented interaction worked
- Enter Battle Royale and find Darth Vader. In the May 2025 instructions, Vader appeared as a boss.
- Recruit him. The first player or squad to recruit him could speak with him.
- Press the Darth Vader button shown on screen. Use the in-game prompt rather than relying on a platform-specific key: Epic did not publish a universal keyboard or controller binding.
- Take turns with your squad. Epic said the whole team could speak with Vader in turn.
The announcement suggested asking about the Force, the Galactic Empire, or a strategy for the final Storm circle. Those steps describe the announced 2025 feature, not a guarantee that it is present in a current match. Epic Games

- Review parental controls. A parent may need to allow voice and written communication with AI Features in Fortnite Parental Controls or the child’s Epic account settings. - Account for age-based chat limits. Epic says communication settings may be restricted by parental controls; voice and text chat are limited to Friends Only for children under 10, and chat defaults to Off for users who indicate they are under 18. These general chat rules do not establish whether a particular AI prompt will work.
- Use the prompt displayed in your game. The official 2025 article named an on-screen button but did not specify fixed PC, PlayStation, Xbox, or mobile keys.
What the 2025 announcement said about the AI and privacy
Epic described the feature as experimental. Its announcement identified Google Gemini 2.0 Flash and ElevenLabs Flash v2.5 as the models used for that 2025 feature; those names should not be read as a statement about current Fortnite-wide AI choices. Epic Games
Disney said Epic securely processed voice audio to generate responses and did not store the audio or conversation transcriptions. Disney also said players could report anything Vader said.
