A MediaPackage origin endpoint is for downstream playback; it is not YouTube’s encoder ingest URL. The exact MediaPackage command depends on whether the channel is MediaPackage v1 or v2 and on its configured input, credentials, and policy, so there is no safe universal command for every channel.
First decide whether you need MediaPackage at all
If your goal is only to put a prerecorded playlist on YouTube Live, MediaPackage is not automatically part of that path. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses the server URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room. MediaPackage has a different role: its channel accepts an upstream live stream, while an origin endpoint exposes packaged output for downstream players or CDNs.
Accordingly, do not copy a MediaPackage origin endpoint into YouTube’s encoder destination field. The documented roles point to a design in which an encoder sends to MediaPackage and separately sends to YouTube, unless you introduce an intermediary that is explicitly documented for your setup. That distinction follows from the services’ documented ingest and delivery workflows; it is not a blanket claim that every possible MediaPackage-to-YouTube architecture is impossible.
Choose the MediaPackage generation and input before building the FFmpeg output
MediaPackage v1 and v2 do not share one interchangeable ingest recipe. Check the generation of the actual channel and its input configuration in AWS, then use the channel-specific ingest details—not an AWS service API host—to configure FFmpeg.

AWS lists MediaPackage v1 live API endpoints in Mumbai (ap-south-1), and v2 live API endpoints in Mumbai (ap-south-1) and Hyderabad (ap-south-2). These are API endpoints, not the media ingest destinations for your channel. Obtain the ingest details from the MediaPackage resource you created.
The AWS v2 live-ingest flow describes an optional pair of ingest domains for redundancy. Use both only where the configured resource and your failover design support them; do not treat two hostnames as a substitute for configuring and testing failover.

Prepare the playlist and VPS
- Confirm the source files and playlist. Check that the playlist resolves to the intended recordings and that the resulting stream will include video. For v1, ensure the selected source format, container, and codecs match AWS’s documented inputs; AWS lists H.264 or H.265 video and AAC, Dolby Digital, or Dolby Digital Plus audio, subject to the listed containers. For v2, match the configured HLS or CMAF input type. These codec lists are not a guarantee that every combination works with every channel configuration.
- Match packaging and authentication to the channel. For v1 HLS, the documented method is HTTPS WebDAV with digest authentication and unencrypted media segments. For v2, follow the channel’s HLS or CMAF configuration and the authorization and policy requirements for that resource. AWS’s pages do not provide one ready-made FFmpeg command for arbitrary channels.
- Keep credentials out of shared commands and logs. Use the actual channel-specific ingest details from AWS. Do not publish a command containing a live credential, and do not substitute a guessed endpoint or generic API hostname.
- Check the VPS route to the actual ingest hostname. Measure sustained throughput, packet loss, and stability from the chosen Indian VPS to that destination. Provision upload headroom above the encoded bitrate. The existence of an AWS region in India does not establish that a particular VPS provider, route, or peering arrangement will be reliable.
Send a separate output to YouTube Live
For YouTube’s general encoder workflow, copy the current server URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the separate YouTube output in your encoder. YouTube recommends RTMPS for this path. Treat the key as a secret: anyone who obtains it may be able to send to that stream.
For YouTube’s documented RTMP/RTMPS guidance, supported video codecs include H.264, HEVC, and AV1, up to 60 fps. YouTube recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, with keyframes no more than four seconds apart. Choose the bitrate from YouTube’s recommendation table for the resolution, frame rate, and codec you actually use; there is no single bitrate appropriate to every stream.

Before the real broadcast, send a test with representative motion and audio, then monitor YouTube’s stream health. A playlist that plays locally does not by itself prove that either AWS ingest or the YouTube output is healthy.
If you specifically choose YouTube HLS ingest
YouTube HLS ingest is a separate destination from MediaPackage ingest and has its own packaging rules. YouTube requires TS segments lasting 1–4 seconds, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, HTTPS POST or PUT, and no byte-range segments. Segment encryption is unsupported apart from HTTPS transport. YouTube notes: “HLS has higher latency because it sends segments of video, instead of a continuous stream like RTMP.” Choose HLS only if its codec and delivery requirements fit your use case and you accept the higher latency; do not send a MediaPackage origin URL in place of YouTube’s HLS ingest destination.

Why there is no universal FFmpeg command for the MediaPackage leg
A command that works for one channel may be wrong for another because the required protocol, authentication, packaging, and destination depend on the resource generation and channel configuration. AWS’s documentation describes the v1 and v2 ingest methods but does not give a ready-made FFmpeg command for an arbitrary Indian VPS-to-channel setup. In particular, a generic HLS push command does not establish that its HTTP method, authorization, segment layout, or codecs meet the requirements of your specific channel.
Build the MediaPackage output only after you have the channel’s actual ingest details and have checked that the FFmpeg output matches them. Validate the generated playlist, segments, and HTTP requests against that configuration. If you cannot confirm those details, stop before the live run and resolve them in the AWS resource configuration rather than guessing. Configure the YouTube output independently with its own current Live Control Room destination.

Test the whole path and diagnose failures by destination
- MediaPackage does not accept the input: Recheck whether the channel is v1 or v2, the configured input type, channel-specific hostname, credentials or policy, and the required protocol and packaging. A v1 digest-authenticated WebDAV setup is not the same as a v2 SigV4-authorized setup.
- The channel accepts input but downstream playback fails: Check the MediaPackage origin endpoint and downstream player or CDN configuration. The origin endpoint serves packaged output; it is not the upstream ingest destination.
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Verify that the separate output uses the current server URL and stream key from Live Control Room, then check YouTube stream health and the selected protocol and codec.
- YouTube HLS rejects or mishandles segments: Check TS format, 1–4-second segment duration, a rolling window of no more than five outstanding segments, HTTPS POST/PUT, absence of byte-range segments, and absence of segment encryption.
- The stream drops or stutters from the VPS: Measure sustained throughput and packet loss from that VPS to the actual AWS ingest hostname. Region proximity alone does not prove route quality; test with headroom above the encoded bitrate.
Do an end-to-end test before the real event: confirm the MediaPackage ingest, verify downstream playback from its endpoint if that is part of your design, check YouTube’s stream health, and test the VPS route under a representative sustained load. Keep the MediaPackage and YouTube results separate so a healthy output in one service does not mask a failure in the other.
Account for rights and channel rules as well as transport settings
Successful ingest only shows that a stream can be transported; it does not establish that you have rights to the recordings, music, gameplay footage, or other material you broadcast. Check the applicable YouTube copyright rules and any reused-content requirements relevant to your channel, particularly if monetization matters. Technical settings cannot resolve a rights or channel-policy issue.
Cost and regional planning
There is no universal total cost for this design in the available service information: it depends on the VPS plan, AWS resources and data transfer, stream duration, and the chosen YouTube delivery path. Compare costs for the actual configuration rather than treating an Indian VPS location or an AWS India region as a price or performance guarantee. Also include operational effort: you must keep the VPS process running, protect credentials, monitor both destinations, and respond to failures.
