Short answer: AWS Lightsail is easier to price from the published information available here: AWS documents instance bundles and regional transfer allowances. Vultr documents a cloud-hosted OBS/Broadcaster workflow, but the cited Vultr material does not establish standard Cloud Compute pricing, included outbound transfer, or overage costs. That is not enough evidence to declare either provider cheaper or more reliable. Compare the same region, encoding setup, and calculated monthly data before choosing.
If you want a YouTube-only service that loops uploaded videos without keeping a computer on, StreamNeo is a simpler alternative to managing a VPS: upload a video or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live from the cloud.
What each option offers for a continuous stream
| Option | What the cited information establishes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | A cloud service for looping uploaded videos to YouTube 24/7; add a YouTube stream key once and the service runs without your computer or home connection staying on. | It is not a camera-based live production service and streams to YouTube only. |
| AWS Lightsail | Published VPS bundles combine vCPU, memory, SSD storage, and a transfer allowance. AWS also documents how transfer and outbound overage are counted. | A bundle price and allowance alone do not show whether a particular machine can encode your chosen stream or whether its allowance covers your actual traffic. |
| Vultr Cloud Compute | Vultr documents OBS/Broadcaster as a marketplace app on cloud GPU infrastructure, accessible in a browser and configurable to stream to platforms including YouTube. | The cited material does not settle current standard Cloud Compute pricing, included transfer, overage terms, or a like-for-like cost against Lightsail. |
Vultr’s separate Broadcaster-to-Owncast guide demonstrates another streaming workflow, not a performance benchmark, uptime guarantee, or cost comparison. Neither provider’s cited material establishes which will stream more reliably for your setup.
Lightsail’s published Linux bundle examples
AWS lists these general-purpose Linux/Unix public IPv4 bundles. These are AWS-published values, not recommendations that a given plan can encode a particular stream.

Calculate the stream’s monthly traffic before comparing prices
For a fixed 24/7 feed, outbound video traffic can be a major part of the bill. YouTube’s recommended encoder bitrate is a useful planning input, but it is not a monthly-traffic statistic. The estimate below is a calculation from bitrate and continuous uptime, not a figure published by AWS or Vultr.
YouTube ingest settings to use as inputs
YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval, with a maximum interval of four seconds. Its recommendations vary by codec, resolution, and frame rate, and YouTube advises testing and monitoring stream health. YouTube Help: Live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions

| Format | YouTube-recommended bitrate | Codec |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps | H.264 |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps | H.264 |
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps | H.264 |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps | H.264 |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps | AV1 or H.265 |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps | AV1 or H.265 |
These are YouTube’s ingestion recommendations, not measurements of monthly usage or a guarantee that a particular VPS can encode the feed. If you are relaying already-encoded video, distinguish the outgoing bitrate from the server’s encoding workload.

At 24 hours a day for a 30-day planning month, that is approximately 324 × bitrate in Mbps. For example, a 14 Mbps feed gives an estimated 4,536 GB over 720 hours; a 17 Mbps feed gives about 5,508 GB. These are calculations using a constant bitrate and 30 days, not provider-reported traffic. Add a margin for protocol overhead, reconnects, audio if it is not included in the chosen bitrate, monitoring, and any secondary output. If your month has more or fewer days, adjust the hours accordingly.
The simple estimate converts Mbps to decimal GB and assumes the stated bitrate is sustained continuously. Actual transfer may differ with the encoder, protocol, reconnect behavior, and traffic beyond the primary YouTube ingest. Compare your estimate to the allowance and overage rules for the precise region and plan rather than assuming a bundle covers it.

How Lightsail transfer allowances affect the comparison
AWS counts both inbound and outbound transfer against the Lightsail plan allowance, but charges overage only for outbound transfer above the allowance. The outbound overage rate varies by region. AWS documents half the general-table allowance in Mumbai, Sydney, Jakarta, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and São Paulo. Verify the current regional allowance and applicable rate before calculating a bill; a general bundle row may not match the allowance in those locations. AWS Lightsail FAQ

For a continuous feed, compare the estimated monthly outbound traffic—not just the instance’s sticker price—with the regional allowance and the applicable outbound overage price. A stream can exceed a published allowance substantially, so the displayed monthly instance cost is not necessarily the full hosting cost.

Vultr’s Broadcaster guide describes OBS delivered as a marketplace app on cloud GPU infrastructure. The workflow is browser-accessible and can be configured to stream to YouTube. That makes it relevant if you want a hosted OBS workflow, but it does not establish the price or traffic economics of a regular Vultr Cloud Compute instance. Vultr Broadcaster guide
Before calling Vultr cheaper or more expensive, obtain the current price for the exact instance and region, its included outbound transfer, and any overage charge. If you are considering Broadcaster’s GPU infrastructure, check that instance’s price separately; do not assume it has the same economics as standard Cloud Compute.

Choose based on the workload, not a generic winner
- Choose Lightsail for pricing transparency in the cited comparison. Its documented bundle rows and transfer rules give you concrete values to model, though you still need to verify the region, overage rate, and capacity for your workload.
- Consider Vultr Broadcaster if a hosted OBS workflow matters. Vultr documents that workflow, but the cited information is insufficient for a current like-for-like cost verdict.
- Use a calculated traffic estimate for either provider. Match region, bitrate, runtime, and number of outgoing feeds; include overage, not only compute price.
- Use StreamNeo if the task is simply looping uploaded videos on YouTube. It avoids operating a VPS or leaving a home computer online, and its listed service supports uploaded video up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot.
A complete provider comparison should line up monthly compute cost, outbound allowance and overage, region and network distance, CPU/GPU capability, memory and storage, setup effort, and recovery and monitoring options. Current Vultr plan and transfer terms are needed to fill the cost columns fairly.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a pre-recorded YouTube loop, StreamNeo’s setup is: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required; one free day is available per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo plans, then start your free day.
