1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe safest way to send fan mail is to use the video game studio’s own, currently published community or contact channel—not an address copied from an old post, a support form, or a random office listing. Check the studio’s website, identify whether the route is for community correspondence, and send a short personal note about a specific game. Do not include game ideas, scripts, concept art, or other unsolicited creative material unless the studio has expressly invited it.
Studios separate fan appreciation from technical support, business inquiries, and creative submissions. Choosing the wrong route can delay your message, put it in a queue that cannot answer it, or expose you to policies you did not intend to accept. The process below shows how to verify the destination, decide between email and postal mail, write an appropriate note, and avoid common privacy and intellectual-property mistakes.

What counts as fan mail?
Fan mail is a personal message of appreciation to a studio, community team, or named creator. It can describe the game you played, a character or mechanic that stayed with you, or the way the game affected a meaningful experience. It is not a request for technical troubleshooting, a proposal for a business relationship, a job application, or a package of material for the studio to develop.

That distinction matters because one company may publish several unrelated contact routes. A support team may be trained to solve account and technical problems but have no way to forward personal correspondence. A business-development address may be monitored for contracts rather than letters from players. A community address or form is the most plausible destination for appreciation when the studio names it for that purpose.

Find a current, studio-published destination
Start with the official website
Search the studio’s own site for labels such as “Contact,” “Community,” “Community correspondence,” “Fan mail,” or “Get in touch.” Read the text around the address or form. A page that merely lists a headquarters, legal entity, or investor-relations contact has not necessarily invited fan letters.
Check the page’s date, whether it is part of the current site, and whether it gives instructions about attachments, languages, or personal information. If the studio has a category selector, choose the category that explicitly describes community or general correspondence. Follow the current wording even if an older blog post suggests a different method.
Match the purpose to the channel
| Channel or label | Use it for | Do not use it for | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Community or fan correspondence | Thanks, personal reactions, and questions intended for the community team | Account recovery, bug reports, sales proposals, or creative pitches | That the page currently identifies the route for community messages |
| Player or technical support | Login, payment, safety, platform, and game-performance problems | A general letter of appreciation unless the form provides that category | The support article or form’s stated scope |
| Business, press, or partnerships | Commercial, media, licensing, or event requests | Personal fan notes | Whether the studio directs non-business messages elsewhere |
| Postal or headquarters address | Physical mail only when the studio identifies it as an acceptable destination | Valuable gifts, confidential material, or unsolicited submissions | Whether the address is current and specifically intended to receive correspondence |
Example: separate community and support routes
CD PROJEKT RED’s contact information illustrates the distinction. Its contact page separates player support from community-related correspondence and lists [email protected] for community matters. The same page publishes a Warsaw corporate address, but does not label that address as a fan-mail destination. A headquarters address is therefore not a substitute for the named community route.

Email and contact forms
An official community email or form is usually the least ambiguous option because the studio has identified its purpose. Use the subject line or category requested by the page. Keep the message in the form’s text field when attachments are not explicitly accepted. If a form asks for contact details, provide only what is necessary to receive a reply.

Postal mail
Send a physical letter only when a current studio instruction says where to send it. An address found in a company footer, privacy policy, trademark notice, or map listing may be intended for legal or administrative mail rather than player correspondence. Do not infer permission from the fact that a building can receive envelopes.
A historical PlayStation invitation
PlayStation Blog published a post titled “Send PlayStation a Letter” on May 7, 2014. In that invitation, Sid Shuman, identified as Senior Director, Sony Interactive Entertainment Content Communications, asked readers to write about how games affected their lives. The post listed “Greatness Awaits, PlayStation HQ, 2207 Bridgepointe Parkway, San Mateo, CA 94404” and said: “Be sure to include your contact info (email, phone number) and PSN ID, too, so we know how to reach you, and note that anything you mail to us won’t be returned.”
That was a time-limited, historical invitation. It does not establish a current PlayStation fan-mail address, a universal requirement to provide a phone number or player ID, or a general promise that other studios will keep or return mail. Verify any destination on the recipient’s current site before you print an address or buy postage.
Write a message a community team can use
Lead with the game and a concrete reaction
Name the game and explain one or two specific things that resonated with you: a level design decision, a character arc, a musical moment, an accessibility feature, or the way a particular experience helped you. Specific observations are more useful than a general “your game is great,” while a short note is easier for a team to read and route.

Keep the tone personal, respectful, and concise
Write as one player speaking to people who made the game. You do not need industry terminology, a résumé, or a long life story. If you mention a difficult personal experience, share only what you are comfortable putting in a company’s records. Avoid demands for a reply, promises of publicity, or pressure to pass the message to a particular executive.
Include contact details only when the channel asks
Use the studio’s instructions rather than assuming that every letter needs a phone number, account name, or postal return address. A reply email can be useful for an official form that offers one. Never include passwords, payment-card information, recovery codes, government identification numbers, or private information unrelated to the message.
Simple template
Hello [studio or community team],
I wanted to thank you for [game]. [One or two specific sentences about what you enjoyed, noticed, or how the game affected you.]
Best,
[Name]
Replace the bracketed text before sending. If the studio requests a player ID or another identifier, add it only in the field or format the studio specifies.

Do not turn fan mail into an unsolicited submission
What to leave out
- Game concepts, mechanics, characters, worlds, or story outlines offered for the studio to use.
- Scripts, manuscripts, drawings, concept art, music, code, prototypes, or design documents.
- Confidential business information or material belonging to another person.
- Large files or links that the studio did not ask you to provide.
A thank-you note can mention that a game inspired you, but do not attach the thing you created for the studio to evaluate or develop unless an official page expressly invites that type of submission.

Why policies matter
CD PROJEKT RED states that it cannot accept or review unsolicited materials such as concept art, manuscripts, scripts, drawings, or ideas. Its policy says such material may not be reviewed and could be deleted; it also describes broad rights terms that may apply if someone sends material anyway. The practical choice is simple: do not send creative work for the studio to use through a fan-mail route.
Ubisoft likewise states on its contact information that its policy does not allow the company or its employees to accept or consider unsolicited ideas and materials. That warning concerns pitches and creative assets; it is not evidence that the company rejects every message of appreciation. Keep a fan letter as a letter, not as a disguised proposal.
Fan content is a separate category
Some studios publish fan-content guidelines for works such as fan art or cosplay. CD PROJEKT RED’s fan-content guidelines describe permissible fan works and conditions for sharing them, but they do not invite people to mail those works to the studio or grant permission to submit game ideas. A public fan-content policy and a private fan-mail address serve different purposes; follow each policy on its own terms.
Physical mail: protect your message and your expectations
Use ordinary materials
Plain paper and a normal envelope are sufficient unless the studio specifies another format. The historical PlayStation invitation mentioned notebook paper, drawings, and collages as possible formats, but it did not make special stationery a requirement. Letter-writing stationery is optional, not a condition of being heard.

Do not send irreplaceable items
Never mail an original photograph, one-of-a-kind artwork, valuable collectible, or anything you need returned unless the studio gives written instructions and a return process. The 2014 PlayStation invitation explicitly warned that mailed items would not be returned. That warning belongs to that invitation, but it is a useful reason to treat all unsolicited physical packages as potentially non-returnable.
Consider international delivery
Before mailing across borders, confirm the country, postal format, customs requirements, and whether the recipient accepts physical correspondence. Do not declare a valuable gift or merchandise as ordinary paper. If the studio does not publish a postal route, use its verified electronic community channel instead of guessing an address.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A step-by-step sending checklist
- Identify the recipient. Decide whether you are writing to the studio, a community team, or a named creator. Address the organization or team unless an official page gives a specific individual’s contact route.
- Open the current official contact page. Look for community correspondence, fan mail, or a general contact category. Note the page’s instructions and any update date.
- Classify your purpose. Choose community correspondence for appreciation, support for a technical problem, and a business route for commercial matters. Do not combine unrelated requests in one submission.
- Choose email, a form, or postal mail. Use postal mail only when the studio specifically identifies a current physical destination for correspondence.
- Draft a short, specific note. Name the game, describe one or two concrete reactions, and thank the people who made it. Keep the message focused on your experience.
- Remove unsolicited material. Delete pitches, designs, scripts, artwork, prototypes, and attachments unless the studio expressly requests them through that channel.
- Review privacy details. Remove passwords, payment information, account-recovery data, and personal details the studio did not request. Add a reply address only when it is useful and appropriate.
- Check the destination one more time. Compare the address or form with the current official page immediately before sending. Do not rely on a screenshot, forum post, or old social-media comment.
- Keep a copy of what you sent. Save the final text and the date, but do not assume that saving a copy creates a right to a response or return of physical items.
What to expect after sending
A reply is not guaranteed
Studios differ in staffing, volume, language coverage, and internal routing. The examples above do not establish a universal response practice or response time. If the page does not promise a reply, treat any response as optional rather than as a service-level commitment.
Do not use fan mail for urgent account or safety issues
If you need account recovery, payment help, a report about a security or safety issue, or assistance with a broken game, use the studio’s dedicated support or reporting process. A community message may not be monitored by the people who can protect an account or investigate a technical problem.
Follow up without flooding channels
If the studio’s page provides a stated follow-up method, use it. Otherwise, avoid sending the same note repeatedly through email, social media, and postal mail. Multiple copies can make routing harder and do not improve the likelihood of a response.
Quick Recap
Common mistakes and their fixes
| Mistake | Why it causes trouble | Better approach |
|---|---|---|
| Using a headquarters address from a footer | The address may be for legal or administrative mail, not player correspondence | Find a channel the studio labels for community messages |
| Sending a support ticket that says only “thank you” | Support queues are organized around problems that need resolution | Use the community category or address when available |
| Attaching a game pitch or portfolio | Unsolicited-submission policies may reject, delete, or set rights terms for the material | Send only the personal note unless an official invitation requests creative work |
| Mailing an irreplaceable gift | The recipient may not accept, store, or return it | Send ordinary paper only, and confirm physical-mail instructions first |
| Copying an old address without checking | Companies move offices and retire campaigns | Verify the destination on the current official site |
| Including sensitive account information | A fan-mail channel is not necessarily a secure account-support system | Use the official support flow and provide only requested details |
Quick decision guide
- You want to say thank you: Use the current community email or form, or a postal route explicitly marked for correspondence.
- You need help with an account or game: Use player support, not fan mail.
- You want to propose a feature or story: Do not send it unsolicited; look for a formal program that expressly requests submissions.
- You want to share fan art or cosplay: Read the studio’s fan-content guidelines. Do not assume those guidelines authorize mailing the work to the studio.
- You found only a corporate address: Treat it as an office address, not permission to send fan mail, until the studio says otherwise.
Final pre-send checklist
- The destination appears on the recipient’s current official website.
- The channel’s stated purpose matches a personal message of appreciation.
- Your note names the game and includes a specific, respectful reaction.
- You removed pitches, scripts, artwork, designs, code, and other unsolicited creative material.
- You included only contact information the channel requests or genuinely needs.
- You are not mailing anything valuable or irreplaceable without explicit instructions.
- You understand that a reply and the return of physical mail are not guaranteed.
