Use a number from 0 to 50: 0 (the default) disables the queue, while any value from 1 through 50 allows that many people to wait for an active slot. This setting does not increase the number of players who can actually be in the game; that limit is controlled separately by game.maxPlayers.

The setting you need
Arma Reforger reads the queue limit from a nested object under the top-level game object:

Its valid range is 0–50, and the documented default is 0, which turns the waiting queue off. The field appears in the server configuration reference from version 1.2.1 (entry 1.2.1.66).
Do not confuse a queue with a larger server. A queue holds players who are waiting; it does not create additional in-game slots. The active-player limit remains the value of game.maxPlayers.

Queue capacity and active capacity are different

For example, a server with game.maxPlayers set to 64 and game.joinQueue.maxSize set to 10 still has only 64 active places. The tenth queued player is waiting for an active place to become available; the server is not a 74-player session. Increasing the queue value therefore cannot fix a server that needs a higher active-player limit, and increasing game.maxPlayers does not automatically create a waiting line.
Bohemia Interactive’s 0.9.8.53 update recorded a change to a 128-player maximum and a default player limit of 64. Use the current configuration reference for the values accepted by the server version you are running, especially if you maintain an older installation.

Before you edit the file
Find the configuration the process actually loads
Dedicated servers normally receive a JSON path through their -config option, although a managed host may expose the same file through its control panel. Edit the file associated with the running instance, not an unused example or a different profile. If several server instances share a machine, verify the path for each instance before changing it.
Make a backup and preserve existing keys
Copy the current JSON before editing. Keep every existing setting unless you intentionally want to change it. The queue object is an addition inside game; it is not a replacement for the rest of that object.
Check that the server version supports the field
The reference documents joinQueue.maxSize from version 1.2.1 onward. If a server running an earlier build ignores the field, confirm the version and its configuration schema rather than assuming the value was accepted.
Plan the restart or reload
The JSON change must be loaded by the server process. Restart or reload it using the procedure documented by your host, orchestration system, or container image. There is no single reload command that applies to every hosting environment, so do not paste a command intended for a different provider into a production server.

Step-by-step: set the queue size
1. Open the active JSON configuration
Locate the file supplied to the dedicated server’s -config option, or open the configuration editor provided by your host. If the host generates the file at startup, make the change in the source configuration or environment settings that generate it; otherwise a restart may overwrite your edit.
2. Locate the top-level game object
A configuration with other game settings may look similar to this:

3. Add or edit maxSize
To allow 10 people to wait, use:

}Do not create a second joinQueue object. JSON object keys should be unique; duplicate keys can be handled inconsistently by parsers and make it unclear which value the server uses.
4. Choose a value from the documented range
- Use
0to disable waiting entirely. This is also the documented default. - Use
1through50to permit a bounded queue. - Do not use a negative number, a decimal, or a value above 50. Those values are outside the documented range.
5. Save valid JSON
Check the punctuation around the new object. Common errors include a missing comma before joinQueue, a trailing comma after the last property, smart quotation marks, and placing joinQueue outside game. A JSON-aware editor can catch syntax errors before the server starts.

6. Restart or reload through your host’s procedure
Apply the configuration using the management method supplied for your installation. Some hosts require a full stop and start; others expose a reload action. Follow that environment’s instructions and wait for the process to finish loading before judging the result.
7. Confirm the effective behavior
Use the server’s normal startup or configuration logs, if available, to confirm that the file was accepted. You can also inspect the server browser’s advertised capacity and observe whether additional joiners are admitted or refused in line with the selected limit. Do not infer success merely because the file saved: a host may have loaded a different file, rejected malformed JSON, or regenerated its configuration.

How to choose a queue value
Start with your access policy
Choose 0 when you want full servers to refuse additional join attempts instead of keeping people waiting. Choose a positive value when an orderly waiting line is preferable to repeated connection attempts. The number is a hard simultaneous limit: once that many people are waiting, later joiners are not added to the queue.
Consider demand without changing active capacity
A larger queue accommodates more simultaneous join attempts, but it can also leave people waiting longer when active slots turn over slowly. Set the queue according to the demand you expect during busy periods and the experience you want to provide. Do not treat the queue as an expansion of the match itself; active gameplay remains bounded by game.maxPlayers.
Keep the two numbers intentional
Document the relationship between your active-player target and your queue policy. For example, maxPlayers: 64 with maxSize: 10 means “up to 64 active, with up to 10 waiting.” Changing the second number does not alter the first, so review both independently when planning an event or a regular public server.
Remember the upper bound
The built-in queue accepts no more than 50 waiting players according to the official reference. If your expected demand exceeds that, the setting cannot represent an unlimited or larger waiting room. You would need to change your access policy or use an independently maintained server-management solution, while recognizing that such a solution is separate from the built-in field.

Container deployments
The container README documents an equivalent environment variable named QUEUE_MAX_SIZE. It uses the same 0–50 range, with 0 disabling the queue. If you operate the server through a container image, set the variable using that image’s documented environment configuration rather than editing an internal file that may be replaced when the container is recreated.
The same container documentation states that file-based configuration must be mounted when that deployment method is used. In practice, verify which source has precedence in your image and deployment definition, then make the change in that source. After recreating or restarting the container according to its documented workflow, inspect its normal logs and browser listing to ensure the intended configuration was loaded.
Do not assume that a variable from one image is recognized by every image. QUEUE_MAX_SIZE is the documented equivalent for the referenced container deployment; other packaging methods may require the JSON field instead.

The official server reference describes a priority queue for listed administrators when they join. That priority behavior depends on administrators being specified by IdentityIds. Administrators listed only by SteamId are not currently supported for this priority treatment.
This is separate from the queue length. Setting maxSize controls how many people can wait; it does not convert a SteamId administrator entry into a priority entry and does not change the active-player limit. If an administrator does not receive priority, check the identifier format in the administrator configuration before changing the queue size.
Optional priority-slot mods
The Workshop listing for PQD – Priority Slot Manager describes a separate priority-slot system for full servers. Its described behavior can free a regular-player slot for a priority player, and its instructions tell operators to set maxPlayers higher than the desired number of regular slots.

This mod is optional and is not required for game.joinQueue.maxSize. Treat its settings and update behavior as independent from the built-in queue. If you use it, follow the listing’s installation and configuration instructions and account for the fact that it changes how slots are reserved, not the documented 0–50 limit of the built-in waiting queue.
Troubleshooting
The server starts, but nobody can wait
First inspect the effective value. 0 disables the queue, so a value of zero—whether intentional, inherited from a default, or written by a container—will make additional joiners wait nowhere. Confirm that the loaded file contains a positive integer from 1 to 50, then apply the host’s restart or reload procedure.
The change has no effect after a restart
- Verify that the edited file is the one passed to the running process through
-config. - Check that the object is nested as
game→joinQueue→maxSize. - Inspect startup logs for a JSON parsing error or a message showing that another configuration source was loaded.
- In a container, verify the
QUEUE_MAX_SIZEenvironment setting and the required mounted configuration file. - Confirm that the server build supports the field; the reference documents it from version 1.2.1.
Players are still refused even though the queue is enabled
A queue can fill. Once the number of waiting players reaches maxSize, additional attempts are refused rather than added. Also check game.maxPlayers: the queue does not increase active capacity, so players may continue waiting until an active slot becomes available.
The server will not accept the value I want
Only 0 through 50 are documented for game.joinQueue.maxSize. A value above 50 is outside the supported range. If you need a different admission policy, decide whether to reduce simultaneous demand, leave the queue disabled, or use a separate server-management tool rather than forcing an unsupported number into the JSON.
An administrator does not receive priority
Check whether the administrator is identified by IdentityId. The documented priority behavior applies to listed administrators specified that way; entries supplied only by SteamId are not currently supported for priority queue treatment.

Restore the backup, then reapply the smallest possible edit. Ensure that all quotation marks are straight double quotes, every property except the last in an object has a comma, and maxSize is an unquoted integer. Validate the complete file before restarting again.
