Open your sportsbook’s responsible-gambling, safer-gambling, or account-control settings, then set a deposit cap and a session-time limit. Before saving, check what each control measures, when its period resets, what it blocks, and when a change takes effect. The menu names and rules differ by operator and location, so use the terms shown in your own account.
Find the account-control settings
- Sign in to the sportsbook account you use.
- Open its safer-gambling controls. Look for labels such as “Responsible Gaming,” “Limit Your Account,” “Safer Gambling,” or “Account Controls.” For example, Fanatics calls its page “Responsible Gaming,” while bet365’s Michigan page calls it “Limit Your Account.” These are examples, not universal menu paths. - Choose a deposit limit and a time control if both are available. Read the on-screen description before confirming each one.
- Review the confirmation for the limit’s scope, start time, reset period, and rules for changing it later.
Choose a deposit limit that measures deposits
A deposit limit should control money paid into the betting account—not the amount wagered, losses, or deposits net of withdrawals. In the UK, Gambling Commission rules effective 30 June 2026 reserve “deposit limit” for gross deposits paid into an account over a set duration. The Commission’s RTS 12 guidance calls for daily, seven-day, and one-month gross-deposit periods, with the most restrictive simultaneous limit applying. Those are UK requirements, not a worldwide standard.
Operators may offer other kinds of controls, such as wagering or loss limits, but check their definitions rather than assuming they work like a deposit cap. The UK Gambling Commission says: “Only limits that meet this definition can be referred to as a deposit limit, and limits meeting this definition must be described to a customer as a deposit limit.” RTS 12 financial limits
Check the period and reset
A daily, weekly, or monthly option does not necessarily tell you exactly when the allowance renews. It may follow calendar periods or another reset point, depending on the operator and jurisdiction. For instance, bet365’s Michigan page describes calendar-day, week, and month deposit limits; Fanatics lists daily, weekly, or monthly limits. Check your account’s definition of the period and reset time before choosing a cap.

Check what the cap applies to
Confirm whether the limit applies to the sportsbook only or to a broader operator account. DraftKings says its limits or restrictions apply across DraftKings products; that is its own account rule, not a general rule for other operators. DraftKings responsible-gambling controls
Set a time limit and understand its effect
Choose a session or time limit if your account offers one, then read what happens when the time runs out. A control might end access, log you out, or provide only a reminder; the label alone may not make the effect clear. Fanatics lists session-time limits on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. bet365’s Michigan page describes a daily session limit that logs the account out when the selected duration expires. Set the boundary before you start playing, based on the amount of time you intend to spend. Check whether the limit covers one product or the operator account as a whole, and whether it prevents further use or merely prompts you.
Know when limits and changes take effect
Do not assume a new limit or an increase takes effect immediately. In the UK, RTS 12 specifies a standard 24-hour cooling-off period before a requested increase takes effect; the operator must make a request as soon as practicable and tell the customer when it comes into force. Fanatics says decreases take effect immediately, while an increase waits until the existing limit period has lapsed. Other operators may use different rules, so rely on the confirmation shown in your account.

When setting or changing a limit, check the effective time and whether it applies immediately to the current period or only after that period ends. If you are unsure, contact the operator before relying on the control.

If ordinary deposit or time controls do not help you keep to your boundaries, look for stronger account restrictions such as a timeout, cool-off, or self-exclusion. Availability and terms depend on the operator and jurisdiction. DraftKings describes cool-off and self-exclusion alongside limits; check your own operator’s rules and locally appropriate support options. DraftKings responsible-gambling controls

Quick Recap

Quick checklist before you save
- Does the deposit cap measure gross money deposited, rather than wagers or losses?
- Is the period calendar-based or measured from another reset point?
- Does the control cover this sportsbook only or a wider operator account?
- Does the time limit block access, log you out, or just show a reminder?
- When does the limit become active, and how are decreases or increases handled?
