Check the Audio Mixer meter, make a short test recording or stream, and listen back before leaving the broadcast running.
Choose the right audio capture route
First identify the application that plays your bhajans and the Windows playback device it uses. The best OBS route depends on your Windows version, whether OBS can capture that application, and whether you want other computer sounds included.

Set up the player audio in OBS
Capture a compatible application
- Open OBS and select the scene you plan to use for the bhajan stream.
- In the Sources box, click the plus button and add Application Audio Capture. Name the source if helpful, then select the application that plays the bhajans.
- Open Settings → Audio and set global Desktop Audio to Disabled. With application capture enabled, leaving Desktop Audio active can capture the same playback again and create echo.
- Start the player and watch the source’s meter in the Audio Mixer. If it does not move, confirm the intended application is selected and check its Windows volume.
Capture a playback device instead
If you want to capture a Windows playback device globally, open Settings → Audio and choose the intended device for Desktop Audio. OBS captures desktop audio by default, but the default device may not be the one your bhajan player uses. Check the Audio Mixer meter while playback is active.
For scene-specific capture, add an Audio Output Capture source to the scene and select the intended playback device. If you use this source, disable that same device in global Settings → Audio; capturing one device globally and again as a scene source can cause echo.

Use VB-Cable only if application capture is incompatible
OBS documents a virtual-cable workaround for applications that do not work with Application Audio Capture. Install and configure VB-Cable according to its current instructions, route the bhajan player’s output to CABLE Input, then add an OBS Audio Input Capture source and select CABLE Output. This is a fallback, not a requirement for every Windows setup.
Set monitoring and adjust the level
Audio monitoring is for listening locally to a source through the monitoring device configured in OBS; it is not what sends the sound to viewers. In the Audio Mixer, open the source’s audio settings and choose the monitoring option only if you want to hear it locally. The monitoring device is selected in Settings → Audio.

- With the bhajan playing, confirm the correct source’s meter moves in the Audio Mixer.
- Listen to the player directly and, if desired, listen to the source through OBS monitoring. Headphones can make it easier to notice doubled audio, but they are optional.
- If the captured sound is absent or too loud or quiet, check Windows system and per-application volume sliders, then adjust the player and OBS levels.
- If you hear echo, check that the same playback device or application is not captured through both a global source and a scene source, or through both application capture and Desktop Audio.
Test the complete scene before going live
- Start the bhajan player and make a short recording in OBS, or run a brief test stream if your platform supports one.
- Listen to the resulting recording. Confirm the bhajan is audible, not doubled, and not accompanied by unwanted Windows or application sounds.
- Correct the capture source, duplicate routing, or volume and repeat the test until the recording sounds as intended.
The OBS Project’s Quick Start Guide encourages a short test before going live and listening to a recording. A successful test confirms the audio path at that time; it does not establish that an unattended PC or internet connection will keep a 24/7 stream online continuously. The destination platform is unspecified, so check its current audio requirements before choosing OBS output or encoder settings.
