Set your Soulmask dedicated server’s name with the -SteamServerName launch argument. For example: -SteamServerName="My Soulmask Server". On a self-hosted Linux server, the persistent alternative is WS/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/Engine.ini; on Windows, use WSSavedConfigWindowsServerEngine.ini. In either file, place the setting under [Dedicated.Settings] as SteamServerName=My Soulmask Server.
Stop the server before changing a script or configuration file, save the change, restart the server, and look for the exact new text in the Soulmask server browser. If both a startup argument and Engine.ini define a name, the startup argument takes precedence.

The setting that controls your Soulmask server name
Soulmask reads the dedicated-server name from the SteamServerName setting. You can provide it at launch with -SteamServerName, or store it in the server’s Engine.ini file. The launch form is:
-SteamServerName="Your Name"Replace Your Name with the text you want players to see. Keep the quotation marks when the name contains spaces, as in -SteamServerName="My Soulmask Server". A name written in a startup script, hosting-panel startup command, or container command is read when the process starts.

The configuration-file form is:

SteamServerName=My Soulmask ServerThe section header is important. Put the key under [Dedicated.Settings], not in an unrelated section. A successful change is visible in the in-game or Steam server browser after the dedicated server has restarted.
Before changing anything
Make the change while the server process is stopped. Editing a file while the process is running can leave the running instance unchanged and may allow a shutdown routine or control panel to rewrite the file.
- Record the current launch command or copy the current
Engine.inibefore editing. - Change only the name setting unless you intentionally want to alter another server option.
- Check every place that can add startup arguments: a batch file, a provider’s Startup panel, a service definition, or a container command.
- Plan to restart the dedicated server after saving.
Do not create several competing names as a first step. One clear source is easier to maintain. If you need a value in both places for documentation or fallback, remember that the startup argument wins whenever both are present.

On a typical Windows self-hosted installation, the quickest method is to add the argument to the batch file that launches the dedicated server.
- Stop the Soulmask dedicated server.
- Open the Soulmask Dedicated Server folder.
- Right-click
StartServer.batand choose Edit. This opens the script in a text editor. - Find the existing launch line. Search the file for
StartServeror another line containing the server executable and its options. - Add
-SteamServerName="Your Name"to that launch line. If a-SteamServerNameentry already exists, edit its value rather than adding a second one. - Save the batch file without changing its
.batextension. - Start the server using that batch file.
- Open the Soulmask server browser and confirm the new name.
For example, a launch line can contain the name together with player, mode, and port options:
StartServer.bat -SteamServerName="My Soulmask Server" -MaxPlayers=20 -pve -Port=8777 -QueryPort=27015The other arguments in this example are not required for naming. Keep your existing player, game-mode, and port values if they are already correct; the relevant addition is -SteamServerName="My Soulmask Server".

If the batch file already contains a name
Search the complete script for -SteamServerName. A second occurrence can cause confusion, especially when another wrapper script calls the batch file. Remove the stale value or update the value that is actually passed to the server process. If a hosting tool or service starts the batch file with additional arguments, those externally supplied arguments can override what you see in the file.

For a Linux installation, the persistent file is:
WS/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/Engine.ini- Stop the dedicated server process.
- Open the Soulmask installation directory and navigate to
WS/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/. - Open
Engine.iniin a text editor. Create the file only if your installation does not already have it. - Find the
[Dedicated.Settings]section. If it is missing, add the section header. - Add or edit the line
SteamServerName=My Soulmask Server. - Save the file, preserving the
.iniextension and the section spelling. - Restart the dedicated server.
- Check the server browser for the exact name.

SteamServerName=My Soulmask ServerDo not put command-line syntax in the INI file. The file uses the key-value form with an equals sign; the dash-prefixed form belongs in a launch command.
Windows Engine.ini alternative
Windows installations can also keep the setting in an INI file. The corresponding path is:
WSSavedConfigWindowsServerEngine.iniOpen that file while the server is stopped and use the same section and key:

SteamServerName=My Soulmask ServerThis is useful when a Windows service, shortcut, or management tool launches the server without an easily editable batch command. It also gives you a persistent file to back up with the rest of the server configuration.

Before relying on this method, inspect the actual startup command. If it contains -SteamServerName, that command takes priority over the INI value. In that situation, either change the command-line value or remove the duplicate argument so the INI value can take effect.

Changing the name in a hosting panel
Managed Soulmask hosts generally expose the same setting through their control panel instead of asking you to edit files directly. The label is usually Server Name under a Startup or startup-parameters page.

- Stop the server from the provider panel.
- Open the server’s Startup settings.
- Locate the variable named Server Name or a clearly equivalent field.
- Enter the desired name as plain text.
- Save the configuration.
- Restart the server.
- Verify the result in the Soulmask server browser.
These panels commonly translate the field into -SteamServerName when they start the process. Because that generated argument is a startup parameter, it overrides an Engine.ini value when both are set. If the old name remains, inspect the panel’s startup variables before editing files inside the server container or installation.

Panel-specific persistence
A panel setting normally survives ordinary restarts because it is stored by the provider and re-applied at launch. It can still be replaced by an environment preset, an imported configuration, or a second startup variable. Keep the name in the panel’s designated field and avoid maintaining a contradictory value in several interfaces.
Docker and container deployments
Container images do not all expose identical variables, so check the documentation for the image you use. A commonly documented Soulmask image uses SERVER_NAME and passes that value into the server startup command.
docker run --env=SERVER_NAME='My Soulmask Server' ...In a compose file or orchestration system, the equivalent setting is an environment entry such as SERVER_NAME: My Soulmask Server, provided that your selected image documents that variable. The variable name is an implementation detail of the image; a different image may require another name or may expose the raw -SteamServerName argument instead.

- Stop or replace the running container.
- Set the image-supported server-name variable, such as
SERVER_NAME. - Recreate or restart the container so the environment is applied to a new server process.
- Check the generated startup command or container logs if the old name appears.
- Confirm the final name in the server browser.
Editing a file inside a disposable container may not survive recreation. Store the environment value in the compose file, deployment manifest, or other persistent configuration used to create the container.

Choose the control surface that actually launches your server. A value in an unused INI file cannot change a process that is started with a different configuration path or an overriding command-line argument.
How to verify the new name
The server browser is the practical source of truth for what players see. After restarting:
- Wait for the dedicated server to finish starting.
- Open the Soulmask multiplayer or server-browser screen.
- Search for the server using its region, mode, port, or another identifying detail if necessary.
- Read the displayed name character for character.
- If multiple entries appear, confirm the address and ports so you are checking the correct instance.
Do not judge success solely by the text in a saved file. The browser reflects the value that the running process registered, including any startup argument injected by a panel, service, or container image.

The server was not restarted
Changing a batch file or INI does not rename an already running process. Stop the server completely, save the edit, and start it again. If your provider offers separate Restart and Reinstall controls, use the normal restart; reinstalling is unnecessary for a name change.

Inspect the launch command for -SteamServerName. A command-line value has priority over the INI setting. Update or remove the stale command-line value, then restart.

There are two startup name arguments
Search the batch file, service definition, panel startup field, and wrapper scripts for every occurrence of -SteamServerName. Remove duplicates and leave one intentional value. Also check whether a panel adds its own argument after the command you edited; a later generated argument can be the value the process receives.
The wrong configuration path was edited
Confirm the platform directory: LinuxServer for Linux and WindowsServer for Windows. The file must be Engine.ini beneath the installation’s WS/Saved/Config/ directory. Editing a similarly named file in another installation, backup folder, or temporary container will not affect the active server.
The INI key is outside the correct section
Make sure the file contains the exact section header [Dedicated.Settings] followed by SteamServerName=.... If the key is under another header, move it into the dedicated-settings section and restart.
A container recreated with old settings
For Docker, verify the environment value used to create the current container, not only a shell command from an earlier run. Recreate the container with the image’s documented name variable, such as SERVER_NAME, and then check the browser again.
The browser is showing a different instance
If you operate more than one server, confirm the address and query port before diagnosing the name setting. The browser can list an older process or another node that still has the previous name.
Practical naming checklist
- Use one authoritative source: startup argument, INI file, panel variable, or container environment.
- Keep spaces inside quotation marks in a command-line value.
- Use the INI syntax
SteamServerName=Name, not the dash-prefixed command form. - Place the INI key under
[Dedicated.Settings]. - Stop the server before editing.
- Restart after saving.
- Search for duplicate or provider-injected
-SteamServerNamearguments. - Verify the exact text in the Soulmask server browser.
