For example, TamingSpeedMultiplier=5.0 is intended to make taming run at roughly five times the documented baseline. Save the file, restart the server, and verify that the line is still present. Managed hosts generally expose the same setting in their configuration panel.

The documented baseline is 1.0. Higher values increase the taming-speed factor, but the time a player experiences still depends on the creature, food, taming effectiveness, game edition, and related server settings. A multiplier is not a universal promise that every creature will finish in a particular number of minutes.

What TamingSpeedMultiplier does
TamingSpeedMultiplier is an ARK server setting that scales how quickly a creature’s taming progress advances. The ARK Official Community Wiki lists 1.0 as the default. Values above 1 increase the rate; values below 1 slow it down.
| Value | Intended effect | Best use |
|---|---|---|
1.0 |
Documented baseline | Official-style progression |
2.0 |
Roughly twice the baseline speed | A modest quality-of-life increase |
5.0 |
Roughly five times the baseline speed | Shorter sessions or small private servers |
| Very high values | Much faster progression, with the exact result depending on the tame and other settings | Only when the server is deliberately built around near-instant taming |
The multiplier changes the speed of the taming process; it does not automatically change food consumption, narcotic requirements, taming effectiveness, breeding, harvesting, or other progression systems. Those systems can determine whether a chosen value feels balanced.

Before you edit the server
- Identify whether you are running a self-hosted dedicated server or renting a managed server. The file location and restart controls differ.
- Confirm which game edition you run. ARK: Survival Evolved and ARK: Survival Ascended can use different panel labels, directory layouts, and configuration workflows.
- Make a backup of the active configuration before changing it. Keep the original file so you can restore the previous settings if the server fails to start or the progression feels wrong.
- Know whether the server is online. Stop it before a direct file edit, or use the provider’s configuration editor, so the running process does not overwrite your changes.
The active saved configuration matters. A default template, installation example, or startup script may not be the file the server reads when it launches.
How to set the multiplier in GameUserSettings.ini
- Stop the server. Use the server’s normal stop control. If your host provides an editor that applies settings safely, you can use that instead of opening the file manually.
- Open
GameUserSettings.ini. The exact directory depends on the operating system, game edition, installation method, and hosting provider. Open the copy inside the server’s saved configuration area, not a documentation sample or unused template. - Find the section header. Search for
[ServerSettings]. This header tells ARK that the following lines are dedicated-server options. - Create the header if necessary. If the file has no
[ServerSettings]section, add that header using the INI format accepted by your server or host. Keep the spelling and brackets exactly as shown. - Add one multiplier line. Place this line under
[ServerSettings]:TamingSpeedMultiplier=5.0
Replace5.0with the factor you want. Use a decimal point and do not add quotation marks. - Remove duplicates. Keep one active
TamingSpeedMultiplierentry. Two entries make it easy to edit one line while the server reads another, and different parsers or panels may handle duplicates differently. - Save the file. Preserve the
.iniextension and plain-text formatting. Do not save a second copy with an added extension such as.txt. - Start or restart the server. ARK reads this setting during startup. A file edit without a restart may appear to have no effect.
- Verify the result. After the server is online, reopen the panel or file and confirm that the line remains under
[ServerSettings]. If the setting disappeared, the provider may have rewritten the file or you may have edited an inactive copy. - Perform a controlled check. Use a creature and food combination whose normal timing you already understand. Treat the result as a sanity check rather than an independently measured benchmark; taming times vary with species, food, effectiveness, and version.
Choosing a value for your server
Use 1.0 for the documented baseline
TamingSpeedMultiplier=1.0 leaves the server at the configuration reference’s default. This is the clearest starting point when you want to compare your server with standard settings or troubleshoot another problem.
Use 2.0 for a moderate increase
2.0 is intended as roughly twice the baseline speed. It shortens waiting without making every tame feel immediate, which can suit a cooperative server where players still want food choices and taming effectiveness to matter.
Use 5.0 for a fast progression server
5.0 is intended as roughly five times the baseline. It can work for small groups, limited play sessions, or servers where the objective is to reach exploration and building content sooner. Check how the shorter wait changes your supply of food and narcotics before settling on it.

Be cautious with extreme values
Very high factors can make the food, narcotic, and waiting mechanics feel irrelevant. That may be intentional, but it also removes parts of the progression loop and can make a newly joined player’s experience differ sharply from the server’s intended pace. Change one value at a time, record the previous value, and test before announcing a permanent rule to players.
Do not publish a universal promise such as “every tame takes ten minutes at 5x.” The final duration depends on the creature species, selected food, taming effectiveness, game version, and other configuration values. If you need a creature-specific estimate, use a current calculator that identifies its game and version assumptions, then describe the result as an estimate.

Why single-player taming can differ from your server
Single-player and dedicated-server settings are not always equivalent. The official configuration reference states that bUseSingleplayerSettings=True applies an additional 2.5 multiplier to TamingSpeedMultiplier. A single-player session with that option enabled can therefore tame substantially faster than a dedicated server using the same visible TamingSpeedMultiplier value.
For example, a displayed value of 4.0 with the single-player settings option enabled receives that additional 2.5 factor in the configuration calculation. A dedicated server where the option is disabled will not receive that extra component. When comparing results, record both the taming multiplier and the value of bUseSingleplayerSettings; comparing only the first number is misleading.

This is also why a setting that feels like “4x” in a local game may not feel like 4x after you move to a dedicated server. Check the active configuration for the session you are actually playing, rather than copying a value from a single-player guide.
Managed-host configuration
A managed provider can spare you from locating and editing the file directly. Nitrado documents both a web-interface route and direct editing in GameUserSettings.ini. Other providers use similar concepts, although the labels and menu paths can change.
- Open the server’s settings, expert configuration, or equivalent control panel.
- Search for “taming speed” or
TamingSpeedMultiplier. - Enter the desired number, such as
5.0, in the provider’s field. - Save or apply the configuration.
- Restart the server from the panel.
- Reopen the settings after the restart and confirm that the value was retained.
If the panel does not expose a taming field, use its expert-INI editor if available or follow the provider’s current instructions for direct file access. Do not assume that a label in an ARK: Survival Evolved panel exists unchanged in an ARK: Survival Ascended panel.
Self-hosted versus managed editing
| Consideration | Self-hosted INI editing | Managed hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Access to the file | You locate and edit the active GameUserSettings.ini yourself. |
A web panel may provide a field or expert editor; direct file access depends on the provider. |
| Restart controls | You stop and start the server process or service. | The panel normally supplies stop, start, and restart controls. |
| Backup and rollback | You are responsible for copying and restoring configuration files. | Some panels provide backups or snapshots; availability varies by provider. |
| Platform support | Depends on your operating system, installation, and edition. | The provider determines which ARK editions and platforms are supported. |
| Recurring cost | No separate managed-server rental fee; hardware, bandwidth, and electricity costs depend on your setup. | A recurring hosting charge applies; the amount and included controls are provider-specific. |
The multiplier itself is independent of this choice. A value of 5.0 means the same configuration factor whether it was entered in a text file or a web form; the difference is how safely and conveniently you can apply and recover the change.

Troubleshooting a multiplier that does not work
The line is in Game.ini
The taming-speed entry belongs in GameUserSettings.ini under [ServerSettings]. Moving it out of Game.ini and into the active user-settings file is the first correction to make.

The section header is missing or misspelled
Use the exact header [ServerSettings]. A heading with different capitalization, extra characters, or missing brackets may leave the line outside the section ARK reads for server options.
You edited a template instead of the active file
Search for the configuration file in the server’s saved-data location and confirm its timestamp or contents after a restart. Hosts often maintain templates separately from the live configuration. If the edited line vanishes when the server starts, the panel or startup process is likely restoring another file.
The server was not restarted
Stop and start the server after saving. Disconnecting and reconnecting as a player is not the same as restarting the server process.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.

Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Two entries exist
Delete the duplicate and leave one line under [ServerSettings]. Then restart and verify the surviving value. This avoids editing an ignored or overwritten occurrence.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe value is retained but the timing still looks wrong
Check species, food, taming effectiveness, and other server settings before changing the multiplier again. A different creature or food can produce a different duration at the same factor. Also check whether you are comparing a dedicated server with a single-player session that has bUseSingleplayerSettings=True.
The panel uses a different label
Look for an advanced, expert, raw-INI, or server-settings view. Panel names change, and ARK: Survival Evolved and ARK: Survival Ascended may not present identical fields. If you cannot identify the active setting, export or inspect the resulting GameUserSettings.ini and search for TamingSpeedMultiplier.
A safe change-and-verify checklist
- Write down the current multiplier and
bUseSingleplayerSettingsvalue. - Back up the active configuration.
- Stop the server or use its supported configuration editor.
- Edit
GameUserSettings.ini, notGame.ini. - Place one
TamingSpeedMultiplierline under[ServerSettings]. - Save in plain-text INI format.
- Restart the server.
- Confirm the line remains after startup.
- Test with a familiar tame and record the creature, food, and other relevant conditions.
- Adjust gradually if the resulting progression is too slow or too fast.
Key takeaways for administrators
Use 1.0 when you want the documented baseline, 2.0 for a moderate increase, and 5.0 for a deliberately fast server. Put the setting in the active GameUserSettings.ini under [ServerSettings], restart after saving, and verify that the value survives startup. When a single-player result does not match a dedicated server, check bUseSingleplayerSettings before assuming the multiplier was ignored.
