Use the official Forever Stranded Server Pack V-2.0.9, run it with Minecraft 1.10.2 Forge and Java 8, accept the EULA on the first launch, and rename the included template world to world in lowercase. Once the server starts successfully, players on your network can connect through the host’s local address; friends elsewhere need router port forwarding or a port-tunneling service.

What you need before starting
Forever Stranded is not a current Minecraft release. It is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.10.2, so a modern Java installation or a different Forge version can prevent it from launching. Gather these items before extracting anything:

Use a machine that can remain powered while others play. No single minimum RAM figure is established for this pack, so start with the amount recommended by the supplied launch script or your hosting provider rather than copying a number from an unrelated modpack. Leave enough memory for the operating system.

Download the matching server pack
Open the Forever Stranded project’s official files page on CurseForge and select the dedicated Forever Stranded Server Pack V-2.0.9. The project metadata identifies that release as published March 30, 2024. CurseForge’s project page listed 2,962,609 total project downloads on October 15, 2026; that is a cumulative project figure, not a measure of server performance or a guarantee that every download is the current pack.
Do not download only the client profile and expect it to become a server automatically. The server archive can contain launch scripts, a prepared Forge installation, configuration, mods and a template world. Keep all of those items together unless the pack’s own instructions tell you to change one.
Keep a clean directory
- Create a folder used only for this server, such as a directory named for the pack and release.
- Extract the server archive directly into that folder. Avoid an accidental extra level such as
ServerFolder/Forever-Stranded-Server-Pack/if the supplied script expects files in the top level. - Confirm that the extracted directory contains the pack’s
mods, configuration files and any suppliedrun.batorrun.sh. Do not delete files merely because their names are unfamiliar. - Give your account read and write permission to the directory. Forge must be able to create
eula.txt, logs, world data and generated configuration files.
Use Java 8, not the Java bundled with a newer Minecraft installation
Before starting the server, verify which Java executable your operating system will use. Run java -version in a terminal or command prompt. The output should identify a Java 8 runtime. If it reports a newer major version, install Java 8 and either put its executable first on your system path or edit the supplied launch script so it calls the Java 8 executable directly.
Having several Java versions installed is normal. The important detail is that the command used by the server points to Java 8; checking the version in a different terminal does not change the version used by a double-clicked script. If a script opens and closes immediately, run it from a terminal so its error text remains visible, then check the Java path before changing mods.

Start the Forge server correctly
When the pack includes a launch script
Inspect the supplied run.bat on Windows or run.sh on Linux and macOS. Read it before running it so you know which Java executable and Forge jar it calls. Keep the script in the same directory as the files it references. On Unix-like systems, you may need to mark the script executable, then run it from the server directory rather than from another working directory.
The first run is expected to stop or pause while Forge creates files. Do not repeatedly click the script while it is still generating data; wait for the console to finish and read the final lines.

Install the Forge server files for Minecraft 1.10.2 using the Forge installer that matches the pack’s required release. Select the server-install option and point it at the clean server folder. Then compare the resulting directory with the pack instructions. If the pack provides its own Forge jar or setup files, use those instead of replacing them with a different build.
A generic Forge installation may require the client pack’s mods and configuration files to be copied into the server directory. Copy only what the pack requires, and remove mods that are explicitly client-only; a server cannot load a graphical-only client component. Never mix a random 1.10.2 mod list with this pack’s configuration and assume the combinations are interchangeable.

If you must create a launch command, reference the exact Forge server jar filename generated in your folder, use Java 8, allocate a heap appropriate for the machine, and include the server’s normal headless option. The exact jar filename and memory values are installation-specific, so the supplied script is safer whenever it exists.
Accept the Minecraft EULA on the first launch
- Launch the server once. Forge or the supplied script should create
eula.txtin the server directory. - Stop the process if it is still running and open
eula.txtin a text editor. - Change the line
eula=falsetoeula=true, save the file, and close the editor. - Launch the same script or command again. The server can now finish generating its world and configuration.
Changing the EULA file somewhere else has no effect. It must be beside the Forge server files that you are actually launching. If the file keeps reverting, check that the directory is writable and that you edited the copy created by the current run.

The project description gives a specific instruction for the included template: rename the template to world, using all lowercase. Apply this only when the downloaded server pack contains that template. The server looks for the folder name in the same directory as its configuration, so a name such as World, foreverworld or a nested copy will not satisfy that instruction.
- Stop the server before renaming or moving world data.
- Locate the template folder supplied with the pack.
- Rename that folder exactly to
world. - Start the server again and watch the console for world-loading messages.
If you already allowed the server to generate a different world, stop it and make a backup before changing folders. Do not delete a generated world until you have confirmed that the supplied template is the one you intend to use.

Check that the server actually finished starting
A window being open is not proof that the server is ready. Wait for the console to stop printing startup errors and to indicate that the server is listening and ready for commands. Keep the console open while testing so you can see missing-mod, invalid-configuration or world-loading errors as they occur.

- World error after a rename: stop the server, restore the backup, verify the folder is exactly
world, and check that the world was not placed one directory too deep. - Script closes immediately: run it from a terminal, capture the displayed error, and verify its working directory and Java executable.
Use the console’s normal stop command when shutting down. Closing the window or killing the Java process can interrupt world saves and leave the next startup with avoidable recovery work.

Players on the same home network
Start the server on the host computer and give local players that computer’s private network address. They normally do not need router forwarding when everyone is on the same Wi-Fi or wired network. The host should allow Java or the server process through the operating system firewall when prompted; blocking that process can make a correctly running server appear offline.
Players outside your home
A friend on another network needs an internet-reachable path to the server. The usual choices are:

- Router port forwarding: create a rule that sends the server’s listening port from the router to the host computer’s local address, allow the server through the host firewall, and restart the server before testing.
- Port tunneling: use a tunneling service that supports a long-running TCP game connection, follow its current setup instructions, and give friends the address it provides.
- Managed modded hosting: let a provider handle the public endpoint, restart tools and backups, provided it explicitly supports legacy Java and Forge 1.10.2.
Forwarding the wrong port, forwarding to a changing local address, or testing from inside the same network can produce misleading results. First confirm that a local player can join. Then test the external address from a different network, such as a phone hotspot. Restart the server after changing the network path.
Self-hosting or managed hosting?

Make every player’s client identical
Each player should install the same Forever Stranded release, Minecraft 1.10.2 and the matching Forge version. Their client-side mods and configuration must correspond to the server pack. A player with a newer Forge build, a different pack release or an extra mod may be refused during the handshake or may load into a different configuration than the host.
- Install the client pack through the launcher or method specified by the project.
- Verify that the profile reports Minecraft 1.10.2 and the same Forge generation used by the server.
- Do not add shader, minimap or other client modifications until the unmodified pack can join successfully.
- In the multiplayer screen, enter the local address for LAN play or the forwarded/tunnel address for remote play.
If only one player fails to join, compare that player’s mod list and configuration with a working client before changing the server. If everyone fails after a file change, restore the last known-good server backup and client profile.
What makes this server different from a normal survival world?
Forever Stranded presents a dry, hot world in which the player is stranded and must rebuild. Its official description emphasizes following quest lines, staying cool, obtaining water early, managing hunger and surviving a hardcore map. Progression can provide additional lives. Those mechanics are why using the supplied world and configuration matters: replacing them with a newly generated ordinary world can remove the scenario the pack is designed to deliver.
Tell new players that early survival is a resource-management problem rather than a standard Minecraft rush for tools. Have everyone read the quest objectives, coordinate water and food priorities, and agree on what happens if the hardcore rules consume a life before inviting additional players.
Back up and update safely
- Stop the server through its console command and wait for the process to exit.
- Copy the entire server directory, including
world,mods, configuration, scripts and logs, to a separate backup location. - Label the backup with the pack release and date so you can identify a known-good state.
- Before testing a new pack release or Forge build, make another backup and test the change with clients updated to the same files.
- Never overwrite the only copy of a working world while experimenting with mods or configuration.
The project page identifies V-2.0.9 as the current release described here. Treat future releases as separate installations until their server files, Forge requirements and world instructions have been checked; copying new files over an active world can create an incompatibility that a simple restart will not fix.
