Use the whitelist built into txAdmin, the management panel bundled with FXServer. In txAdmin’s player-whitelist settings, choose whether eligibility comes from staff approval of a license, membership in your Discord server, a Discord role, or administrator status. Then publish clear joining instructions with the server-list allowlist settings and test both an approved and an unapproved account.

What a FiveM whitelist actually controls
A whitelist is an admission rule: it decides which player identities may connect to your FiveM server. It is separate from permissions used after someone joins. A player can be allowed to connect but still lack permission to use staff commands, and a staff member can have powerful server permissions without automatically being eligible as a regular player.

- Staff-approved license identities.
- Any member of a linked Discord server.
- Members who hold a particular Discord role.
- Administrator-only access, useful while a server is private or under maintenance.
The server browser can also display a padlock and instructions saying that an allowlist exists. That display is informational. It does not, by itself, reject a connection; the admission rule must be configured in txAdmin or another server-side system.
What you need before configuring it
- A running FXServer instance with txAdmin available. txAdmin is included with FXServer, so a separate whitelist product is not required.
- Administrative access to txAdmin. Use an account reserved for trusted staff. Do not share its credentials with applicants or publish them in Discord.
- A defined eligibility policy. Decide whether people apply for approval, qualify by Discord membership, qualify by a role, or should be blocked except for administrators.
- A way to communicate the requirement. Prepare the application location, Discord invite or role name, and any approval conditions before enabling the lock indicator.
- Two test identities. Have one account that should be accepted and one that should be rejected. Testing with only an administrator account can hide an incorrectly configured rule.
The exact wording and location of controls can change between txAdmin releases. Use the current labels shown by the txAdmin build running on your server rather than relying on an old screenshot or tutorial.
Choose the right txAdmin whitelist mode

There is no universally correct mode. Choose the rule that matches who can grant access and how often that decision changes. A Discord role is convenient when your moderation team already manages roles; approved licenses provide more deliberate control but require a review queue.
Set up the whitelist in txAdmin
- Confirm that txAdmin is running. Open the txAdmin panel associated with the FXServer instance you intend to protect. If you operate more than one server, verify the selected instance before changing its access policy.
- Open the player-whitelist settings. Look for the current txAdmin section that manages player whitelist or allowlist access. Menu names can vary by release, so follow the label in your installed build.
- Select one eligibility mode. Choose approved license, Discord server member, Discord role, or admin-only access. Do not assume that enabling a browser lock selects a mode; the browser setting and the admission rule are separate.
- Configure the identity source. For approved-license access, use the management interface to review applicants and approve the license identities that should connect. For Discord modes, configure the required community or role in the available integration controls and make sure your Discord administrators know which membership or role grants access. The mode list establishes the policy, but the exact integration fields and labels depend on the txAdmin version.
- Apply or save the policy. Confirm that the setting is active for the intended server. If txAdmin presents a confirmation or reload action, complete it before testing.
- Add the initial approved account. For an approval workflow, approve one known test identity. For a Discord workflow, ensure the test account is actually a member or has the required role. For admin-only mode, use a trusted administrator account solely for the validation step.
- Secure the management panel. Limit txAdmin administrative access to trusted staff, use separate staff accounts where your deployment supports them, and never post credentials in public channels. Player eligibility and staff administration should remain separate responsibilities.
Approved-license workflow
Tell applicants exactly what information your process needs and where to submit it. Review the identity in txAdmin’s management interface, approve it only after your normal checks, and keep a record of why an approval was granted. When a player should no longer have access, remove or revoke that approval in the same interface. Do not treat a forum role, in-game name, or Discord nickname as a substitute for the license identity used by the whitelist.

Discord-member workflow
Publish the correct Discord community and require players to join it before they attempt to connect. Explain that leaving the server removes the condition on which access is based. Keep the Discord integration configured consistently with the community that players are being directed to; sending people to a different or expired invite creates an apparent whitelist failure even when txAdmin is working.
Discord-role workflow
Name the role exactly as players see it and explain who assigns it. Establish an internal rule for granting and removing the role. A role-based policy is only as reliable as the people managing those assignments: a mistaken role grant can admit someone who has not completed your application, while a removed role can correctly but unexpectedly deny an existing player.
Admin-only workflow
Use this as a deliberate restricted state, not as a replacement for a normal community whitelist. Announce the maintenance window through your usual community channel, keep a trusted administrator account available for testing, and change to the intended player mode before reopening the server.

The second supplies the player-facing explanation. Replace the example text with your real process: where to apply, which Discord community to join, which role is required, or how staff approval works. Keep the message short enough to read in the browser and accurate enough that a new player can take the next step without guessing.
These settings communicate that an access process exists; they do not grant or deny access. A server can show the padlock while admitting everyone if no server-side whitelist is active, or reject players while showing an outdated instruction. Cfx.re’s May 28, 2026 announcement places responsibility on the owner to accurately indicate whether an allowlisting process exists. Check the listing after applying the configuration and update the text whenever your application location, Discord server, role name, or approval policy changes.
Test both sides of the policy
Validation should be performed after the txAdmin rule and any browser settings are active. Treat this as a repeatable release check whenever you change roles, identifiers, or access modes.

- Test an unapproved identity. Use an account that is not approved, is not in the required Discord server, lacks the required role, or is not an administrator, depending on the selected mode. It should be refused admission.
- Test an approved identity. Use a known approved license or a test Discord account that satisfies the configured condition. It should connect normally.
- Check the browser listing. Verify that the padlock appears when intended and that the instruction text names the current application route or Discord requirement.
- Test a changed condition. In a non-production window, remove approval, remove the role, or leave the Discord server and confirm that the access result changes as your policy requires.
- Record the result. Note which identity was tested, which mode was active, and the date. This gives staff a baseline when a future player reports a denial.
Do not infer success from txAdmin showing a saved setting. The meaningful result is the connection behavior of identities that should and should not qualify.

Why ACE permissions are not a player whitelist
FiveM’s ACE system is a separate authorization layer. The add_ace command grants or denies a principal access to an object, while add_principal establishes inheritance between principals. These controls are useful for staff commands and resource permissions, for example deciding which moderator group can execute an administrative command.
add_ace <principal> <object> allow
add_principal <child_principal> <parent_principal>Replace the angle-bracketed values with the principals and objects defined by your server. Do not use an ACE entry as a substitute for txAdmin’s player admission whitelist unless you have deliberately built and tested a separate server-side admission system. Granting a principal permission to an object does not, on its own, establish that every other player must be approved before connecting.
Troubleshoot common whitelist problems
An approved player is denied
- Confirm that you approved the identity actually presented by that player, not merely their in-game name or Discord nickname.
- Check that the server is using the txAdmin instance and configuration you edited; multi-server hosts can make it easy to change one instance while testing another.
- For a Discord mode, verify current membership and, for a role mode, verify the exact role assignment.
- Have the player retry after the policy change has been applied, then compare the result with your approved test identity.
An unapproved player is admitted
- Verify that a txAdmin player whitelist mode is active. The browser padlock alone is not enforcement.
- Check whether the player is unintentionally qualifying through the selected Discord membership, role, or administrator condition.
- Confirm that you did not test a privileged staff identity when you intended to test an ordinary player.
- Review whether another admission resource or custom script is granting access; avoid overlapping systems unless you understand which one makes the final decision.
The padlock or instructions do not appear
- Check the spelling and value of
sv_appearAllowlistedandsv_allowlistInstructionsin the configuration loaded by the running instance. - Make sure the instruction value is not empty and accurately describes the current process.
- Refresh the server-list view after the configuration has been applied. If the listing still differs from the configuration, confirm that you edited the correct server’s configuration and consult the labels and behavior of your current FXServer build.
Discord access changes do not match expectations
- Confirm that the configured Discord community and role are the ones your public instructions name.
- Check role assignments after moderation actions; role-based access changes whenever the role changes.
- Keep a license-approval fallback for exceptional cases only if your community policy explicitly allows it. Mixing modes without documenting the precedence makes denials difficult to explain.
Staff can manage the server but cannot join
Administrative access to txAdmin and player eligibility are different concepts. Add the staff member to the selected player whitelist mode, or use admin-only mode while the server is intentionally restricted. An ACE permission that allows a command does not necessarily qualify the account for admission.

Maintain a clear application path
Keep the browser instruction, Discord announcement, and staff procedure aligned. If applicants must join a Discord server, state that before they launch FiveM. If staff approval is required, publish expected information and explain that submission does not equal approval.

Review changes when identities or roles change
Remove approved license identities when your community’s policy requires it. For Discord modes, treat departures and role removals as access changes and investigate reports that do not match the current role list. Make changes through the same controlled txAdmin process used to grant access.
Use admin-only mode for temporary closure
When maintenance or an incident requires a private server, admin-only mode provides a clear temporary gate. Tell players why ordinary access is unavailable, and switch back to the selected community mode before announcing that the server is open.
Separate public instructions from staff controls
The server-list message should tell players how to qualify, never reveal txAdmin credentials, internal approval notes, or staff-only commands. Keep operational details in a restricted staff channel or document.
A practical go-live checklist
- FXServer and txAdmin are running for the intended instance.
- One txAdmin whitelist mode matches the community’s real admission policy.
- At least one known identity satisfies the policy and one known identity does not.
- Discord membership or role requirements are configured and managed by trusted staff when applicable.

- Staff know how to revoke access and how to return from admin-only mode to the normal policy.

For most communities, the dependable setup is txAdmin for enforcement, a single clearly defined eligibility mode, and truthful browser instructions. Treat ACE as a separate permissions system and verify the result with real approved and unapproved identities before inviting players.
