To let viewers request a reminder, schedule your YouTube live stream in YouTube Studio and ask them to open its upcoming watch page and select Notify me. To receive YouTube’s subscriber notifications when you go live, viewers need All notifications enabled for your channel and YouTube notifications enabled on their account and device. You can make these settings available, but you cannot guarantee delivery to every subscriber.
Let viewers request a reminder
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and select Create → Go live.
- Open Manage and choose Schedule stream, or create a stream and schedule it.
- Enter the stream details, audience, date, and time, then save. YouTube Help says a scheduled stream may appear in subscribers’ feeds as upcoming.
- Share the upcoming stream’s watch page and tell viewers to select Notify me. YouTube says it sends a reminder when the stream is about to begin.
Studio labels can change, so check the current interface if a menu name has moved. Scheduling makes the upcoming event available for reminders; it does not guarantee that every viewer will receive a notification.
How subscribers get notified when you go live
For a subscriber to receive a channel’s live notification, they need to have selected All notifications for that channel and have YouTube notifications enabled for their account and device. Account or device settings may prevent an alert from appearing even when the channel setting is correct.
If you use an encoder, YouTube sends subscriber notifications only after the stream is public and YouTube detects that it is live. A public watch page by itself is not enough if YouTube has not detected the incoming feed. YouTube Help puts it this way: “If you’re using an encoder, notifications are sent to these subscribers after your live stream is made public and we detect that you’re Live.”

Start an encoder stream so YouTube can detect it
- Create or schedule the stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
- Copy YouTube’s server URL and stream key into your encoder.
- Start sending the video feed from the encoder and wait for the preview in Live Control Room.
- When the preview is ready, select Go live. For subscriber notifications, the stream must be public and YouTube must detect it as live.
YouTube supports several ways to stream, including mobile, webcam, encoder, and console. You do not need special hardware just to set up channel notifications or viewer reminders; use the method that fits the stream you plan to produce.
Why didn’t I get a notification?
- The viewer has not enabled channel alerts: On the channel, check that the notification choice is All notifications, rather than a more limited setting.
- YouTube or device notifications are off: Check notification settings for the viewer’s YouTube account and device. Device or operating-system settings can suppress alerts.
- The encoder feed has not been detected: Confirm the encoder is sending, the stream is public, and Live Control Room shows YouTube has detected the stream as live. A watch page existing does not establish that an encoder feed is live.
- The viewer could not find the event in advance: Schedule the stream ahead of time and share its upcoming watch page so viewers can select Notify me.
