“Borderlands MMO” does not identify a specific game: the official setup guidance available here is for Borderlands 4, while other Borderlands titles have different requirements. Use the Borderlands 4 steps below only if that is the game you own; confirm controls and hardware guidance in the menus and support page for your actual title.
Set a realistic resolution and frame-rate target
For Borderlands 4, 2K’s official PC troubleshooting guide describes these baselines: minimum specifications target 1080p at 30 FPS on Low, while recommended specifications target 1440p at 60 FPS on Medium. These are specification targets, not a promise that every PC with similar hardware will hold those frame rates in every scene. Start with the target that fits your display and hardware. If performance is below your goal, lower demanding graphics options or use an upscaler; if performance is comfortably above it, raise quality settings gradually and recheck. The official source does not provide GPU-by-GPU benchmarks, so there is no evidence-based universal preset beyond its stated baselines.
Choose an upscaler in Borderlands 4
- Open Options > Visuals > Advanced > Resolution Scaling.
- Select an available method supported by your hardware: DLSS for NVIDIA, FSR for AMD, TSR from Epic Games, or XeSS from Intel.
- Choose an upscaling quality that suits your goal. The official guide recommends Performance quality and Frame Generation On, but availability depends on the system and those recommendations do not guarantee better image quality, responsiveness, or performance on every PC.
Upscaling is a trade-off: it can help performance when rendering at a lower internal resolution, while image clarity and responsiveness may vary by method, quality level, hardware, and game scene. Compare the options on your own display rather than assuming one is best for every system.

Configure controls without assuming the wrong game
The available official source does not establish Borderlands 4’s control bindings or a verified controls-menu path. Open the controls or input options in the game you own, review the displayed bindings, and change them there if the game permits it. Check that your intended keyboard, mouse, or controller is recognized before starting a longer session.
The older official Borderlands PC manual says, “You can play BORDERLANDS using a keyboard / mouse or the Xbox 360 Controller for Windows®.” That statement applies to the original Borderlands, not Borderlands 4, and does not establish current controller compatibility. Verify supported devices for your specific game before choosing or buying a controller.

Let shaders rebuild before judging a change
Borderlands Support says that changing any graphics setting triggers shader recompilation. Its guide estimates about 10 minutes on most PCs and recommends playing for at least 15 minutes after a change before evaluating performance. A short initial stutter or uneven frame rate during this process may not represent how the setting performs once compilation finishes.

- Update your graphics driver using the relevant GPU vendor’s current driver guidance linked from the official guide.
- Verify the game files using the Steam or Epic Games instructions for the storefront where you installed it.
- Temporarily disable overlays while troubleshooting, then test again.
Change one setting at a time where practical, allow compilation to finish, and compare results under similar gameplay conditions. This makes it easier to identify whether a change helped.
