To connect a 7 Days to Die dedicated server to Discord, choose between a webhook for one-way alerts and a bot bridge for two-way chat. A bridge normally connects to the game through the server’s telnet console, so you must enable telnet, set a password, permit the bridge host through the firewall, and run an integration service such as Dishorde, CSMM, or a compatible ServerTools bridge.

What Discord integration can do
Discord integration is not a native feature exposed by the documented 7 Days to Die dedicated-server ecosystem. You add a separate bridge layer that watches server events or communicates with the game console, then sends selected information to Discord. The design you choose determines whether information travels in one direction or both.

A Discord webhook is a URL that accepts HTTP posts into one channel. A log watcher, manager, or small script can post restart notices, player joins, deaths, shutdowns, or status events. The webhook does not have a Discord bot account, does not read Discord chat, and cannot send a message back into the game. It is the smallest and least complicated solution when you only need an announcement feed.
Bot bridge: Discord and server chat
A two-way bridge uses a Discord bot user plus a process that can reach the game server. It can read in-game chat and publish it to Discord, then take an authorized Discord message and send it to the game. Depending on the software, it may also provide player information, status commands, automation, custom log detection, or administrative commands.

Decide the direction before creating credentials. A webhook is enough for an announcement channel; it cannot be upgraded into a two-way bridge by changing Discord permissions. Conversely, a bot bridge needs more access and more maintenance, so do not deploy one merely to post occasional restart notices.
Prepare Discord
Create a webhook for one-way alerts
- Open the Discord server and choose Server Settings → Integrations → Webhooks.
- Create a webhook and select the channel that should receive server notices.
- Copy the generated webhook URL and store it as a secret. Anyone who obtains the URL can post to that channel.
- Give the URL only to the event sender or manager that needs to post. Do not paste it into public documentation, chat, screenshots, or an issue report.
Discord’s Integrations page is also where administrators can edit, copy, and delete webhooks. If a URL is exposed, delete that webhook and create a replacement rather than continuing to use the leaked address.

Create a bot for a two-way bridge
- Open the Discord Developer Portal and create an application for the server integration.
- Add a bot to the application and copy its token once it is available. Treat the token like a password; never commit it to a public repository or place it in a client-side file.
- Invite the bot to the Discord server with only the channels and permissions the bridge requires.
- Use a separate chat channel for normal bridge traffic and reserve a staff-only channel for any command-capable features.
- Do not enable command execution until the command channel, allowed roles, and moderation procedure are in place.
The bot needs to read and send messages in the bridge channel. Additional permissions depend on the selected software. Review the installed application’s permissions from the Discord Integrations page after installation and remove anything the bridge does not use.
Prepare the 7 Days to Die dedicated server
Enable the telnet console
Most documented bridges reach the game through the dedicated server’s telnet console. In the server configuration, enable telnet and assign a strong password. Dishorde’s example uses:

The port number is not universal; use the value actually configured on your server and enter that same value in the bridge. A strong, unique password is important because telnet provides console access rather than ordinary player chat.
Keep the console reachable but private
- Run the bridge on the same machine as the game server when practical. Local placement avoids unnecessary routing and reduces the number of systems that must be trusted.
- If the bridge runs on another machine, allow only that bridge host through the firewall to the configured telnet port.
- Do not expose the telnet port broadly to the public internet. The bridge must be able to resolve the server address and establish a connection, but ordinary players and unknown addresses should not.
- Record the server address, telnet port, and password in the bridge’s protected configuration. Do not put these values in screenshots or public support posts.
Install and configure a bridge
Dishorde for focused chat bridging
Dishorde is a standalone Node.js application described as a Discord bridge bot for 7 Days to Die. It connects to the server console, monitors chat, and relays messages between the game and Discord. Its configuration needs the server address, telnet port, telnet password, Discord bot token, and destination channel. Follow the project’s repository instructions for the installation command, configuration-file format, and process manager appropriate to your operating system.

Its documented Discord-related capabilities include notifications, custom log-string detection, a two-way chat bridge, status and player commands, and automation. Choose it when Discord is one part of a larger administration workflow rather than an isolated chat relay.

Because CSMM exposes more features, plan its permissions before inviting the bot. Decide which channels receive alerts, who may use player or status commands, and whether any automation can affect the server. Keep administrative functions away from a general community channel.
ServerTools with a compatible companion bridge
If the server already runs the ServerTools modlet, use its documented integration path instead of adding an unrelated standalone bridge. Enable both the Discord_Bot and Web_API components, then run the compatible companion bridge. The Discordian documentation identifies both components as prerequisites.
Mod-based integrations have an additional maintenance dependency: the mod’s supported game version and installation layout. A game update can break the mod before Discord itself has changed. Confirm that the server’s Mods folder contains the expected mod directory and ModInfo.xml structure described by the ModAPI documentation before changing bot settings.
A custom webhook sender for minimal alerts
A small script or manager can watch server logs or events and issue HTTPS POST requests to the webhook URL. This is appropriate when you need only a short list of alerts and do not want a bot account. The sender must still handle transient failures, invalid responses, webhook replacement, and Discord rate limits. It also needs a reliable way to run continuously, such as a service or scheduled process on the server host.

Organize channels and permissions
Separate traffic by risk and purpose rather than placing every message in one channel.
- Announcements: Make this channel read-only for ordinary members and use it for webhook alerts such as restarts, joins, deaths, and status changes.
- Game chat: Use a dedicated channel for two-way chat so players can distinguish bridged messages from normal Discord conversation.
- Staff commands: If the bridge supports commands, restrict this channel to trusted roles and review the role membership regularly.
- Bot permissions: Grant read and send access only where needed. Remove broad server-management permissions unless the selected feature explicitly requires them.
Dishorde’s documentation warns that an exec command can allow users with the relevant Discord permission to execute server commands. Disable exec-style commands unless they are necessary. If they are required, limit the command channel and roles, document who is accountable for use, and monitor the bridge’s logs.
Verify the setup in a controlled order
Test each boundary separately. These checks isolate Discord, the bridge process, and the game console instead of leaving you to diagnose several failures at once.
- Test the webhook endpoint. Send one harmless test message through the sender and confirm it appears in the selected announcement channel. If it does not, verify the copied URL and target channel before changing server settings.
- Check the bridge process. Start Dishorde, CSMM, or the compatible companion bridge and watch its log output for startup, configuration, or authentication errors.
- Check telnet reachability. Confirm that the bridge host can resolve the game server address and reach the configured telnet port through the firewall.
- Check telnet authentication. Verify that the password in the bridge exactly matches the dedicated server’s telnet password.
- Test game-to-Discord chat. Send a harmless message in-game and confirm that it appears in the bridge channel.
- Test Discord-to-game chat. If two-way mode is enabled, send a test message from the authorized Discord channel and confirm that it reaches the game.
- Test permissions. From an account that should not administer the server, confirm that staff-only commands and channels are unavailable.
Record which step fails and preserve the relevant bridge log line. Authentication, DNS, connection, and Discord permission errors point to different fixes; changing all settings at once makes the original fault harder to identify.

Troubleshoot common failures
No message appears in Discord
Re-copy the webhook URL from Server Settings → Integrations → Webhooks, verify that the webhook belongs to the intended channel, and confirm that the sender is making an HTTPS POST. If the URL may have been exposed, delete it and create a new webhook, then update the sender’s secret configuration.
The bot is online but no chat arrives
Check telnet first: confirm TelnetEnabled=true, the server address, port, and password. Then verify that the firewall permits the bridge host and that the bot can read and send messages in the destination channel. A bot showing as online in Discord does not prove that it has authenticated to the game console.
Game-to-Discord works, but Discord-to-game does not
This usually indicates that the bridge can observe the server but cannot use an authenticated inbound session or that inbound messages are disabled in its configuration. Recheck telnet authentication and the bridge’s two-way settings. A webhook-only design cannot send messages back into the game, regardless of Discord channel permissions.
Administrative commands are unsafe
Disable exec-style commands unless they are required. If they are required, restrict the command channel and Discord roles, and remove the permission from everyone else. Remember that a command sent through the bridge can affect the game server with the authority of the configured console account.
A mod-based bridge fails after a game update
Check the mod’s stated game-version support and installation layout before troubleshooting Discord. Confirm the expected server Mods folder and ModInfo.xml structure, then verify that both Discord_Bot and Web_API remain enabled when using the ServerTools path. A broken mod loading step must be fixed before the companion bridge can function.
Protect credentials and reduce exposure
- Store Discord bot tokens, webhook URLs, and telnet passwords as secrets with file permissions that exclude ordinary users.
- Rotate a webhook immediately if it appears in a public log, screenshot, repository, or chat message.
- Regenerate a bot token through the Discord Developer Portal if it is exposed, then update the bridge and restart it.
- Use different credentials for different servers or environments so one leak does not grant access everywhere.
- Keep the telnet port restricted to the bridge host and avoid broad port-forwarding rules.
- Review Discord application permissions after installation and after any bridge update.
- Keep command-capable channels private and audit their roles whenever staff changes.
Which setup should you deploy?
Use a webhook when your requirement ends at notifications. It has the smallest permission footprint and no bot account, but it is strictly one-way. Use Dishorde when the primary requirement is live two-way chat with minimal additional management. Use CSMM when you need chat plus notifications, player and status information, custom event detection, automation, or controlled commands. Use the ServerTools route when that modlet is already established on the server and you are prepared to maintain its version compatibility.
