To use both panels on the Anbernic RG DS for Nintendo DS games, open DraStic’s display and layout settings, choose a two-screen arrangement, then verify that the emulated top and touch screens appear on the upper and lower physical panels. Before troubleshooting, identify whether your handheld is running Android or Linux: the firmware and available menus differ between the two.
1. Check which operating system and firmware you have
The RG DS is sold with Android 14/Linux support. ANBERNIC lists two separate software tracks: Android RG DS V1.18 and Linux RGDS-LINUX-V1.0-260513. Check the device’s system information or settings to identify the installed OS and version, then use the matching instructions on ANBERNIC’s RG DS page. Do not install a firmware build simply because it is newer; it must match your device’s OS and the manufacturer’s instructions.

The Android V1.18 changelog says it adds Google Mobile Services and changes how the frontend recognizes game-image paths, including its handling of gamelists and image folders or filenames. Those notes do not mean every owner needs to update to configure DraStic. ANBERNIC’s official update page is the place to check current downloads and instructions.

ANBERNIC specifies TF-card expansion up to 2TB. That is the manufacturer’s maximum capacity claim, not a requirement to buy a card that large. An independent RG DS setup guide suggests 128GB or 256GB cards and using a card reader to prepare files on a computer; treat those capacities as suggestions and choose according to the size of your own collection.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If you use an Android device to format or manage a card, distinguish portable storage from internal (adopted) storage. Google explains that portable storage can hold files and be moved between devices, while internal storage can also hold apps and is not transferable in the same way. Formatting deletes the card’s existing contents, so back up anything you want to keep first. Google’s instructions describe Android generally; the exact RG DS behavior and menus may vary by firmware. See Google’s Android storage guidance.
Use game files and system files you are entitled to use. The fact that a device supports a file format does not grant permission to download commercial games or BIOS files.

3. Set DraStic to use both screens
Open DraStic and find its display or layout settings. The available labels and navigation can vary by app version and firmware, so use the current device-specific guidance rather than relying on a universal button sequence. DraStic’s settings guide describes choosing a screen size and layout, including an “original size” option for each screen and an “original layout with gap.” That arrangement can preserve the familiar DS screen relationship when the panels provide enough usable space.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- In DraStic, open the display/layout settings.
- Choose a layout that places both emulated screens on separate panels. If the available space allows, try original-size screens with the original layout and gap.
- Start a game that uses both DS screens. Check that the emulated top screen appears on the RG DS’s upper panel and the touch screen appears on the lower panel.
- Test touch input on the lower panel in a game that uses it. Adjust the layout or screen size if either image is difficult to see or touch input does not land where expected.
The RG DS has two 4-inch IPS multi-touch displays, each listed at 640×480. The objective is not merely to see two images, but to map the DS top and touch screens to the intended physical panels and make the lower screen usable.

4. Troubleshoot a duplicated or misplaced screen
If both panels show the same emulated screen
Return to DraStic’s display/layout settings and inspect the selected arrangement. A community question reports the symptom “Can’t get drastic to show both emulated screens on both screens of the RG DS,” but it does not establish one universal fix. Check the current device-specific dual-screen guidance linked from the RG DS setup walkthrough, and confirm that the chosen layout assigns two distinct emulated screens rather than mirroring one.
If the screens are on the wrong panels or touch is awkward
Change the layout and retest with a game that uses both displays. Confirm the upper panel shows the DS top screen and the lower panel accepts touch in the expected area. A smaller or differently arranged layout may be easier to read or use than the original-size option, depending on the game and your preference.

5. Use the launcher and other systems with the right expectations
ANBERNIC advertises support for NDS and other retro-system formats, along with a frontend and customizable settings. The installed emulator, frontend behavior, and menu layout can differ by OS and firmware. For a broader tour of the stock launcher, DraStic, RetroArch, other emulators, and hotkeys, see the independent RG DS setup walkthrough. Treat it as a practical guide, not an official specification.
Android and Linux are both supported firmware routes, but the available information does not establish that one is universally better for dual-screen emulation. Choose settings and update instructions for the system actually installed, then verify the result in the emulator you use.
