The game port and Steam query port are different. The game port carries DayZ traffic, while the query port is used for discovery and listing. A server can be running normally yet remain absent from the DZSA list if the wrong port is registered, the listing has not propagated, or the service was not restarted after integration changes.

What DZSA integration actually does
DZSA Launcher is a free, community-built Windows application that combines a DayZ server browser with an automatic mod manager. Without it, a player generally has to find a server, identify every required Workshop item, install those items, arrange the local mod folders, and start DayZ with matching launch parameters. DZSA automates that chain for servers that publish their requirements correctly.
On connection, the launcher obtains the server’s required Workshop content, compares it with the player’s installed files, downloads anything missing, and launches DayZ with the complete set active. It does not replace the DayZ server executable, Steam, or the server’s configuration files. The server still determines which packages are required and which remain server-only.

Prerequisites and information to collect
Gather these details before changing the server:
- Administrative access to the DayZ service or the machine that starts it.
- The server’s public IP address, not a private address such as
192.168.x.xor10.x.x.x. - The Steam query port assigned to the server. Do not assume it is the same as the gameplay port.
- Access to the launch command or startup parameters, including the location of
serverDZ.cfg. - The list of mods that every connecting player must load and the separate list of server-only packages.
- A restart procedure and, for self-managed machines, access to the mission folder and configuration files.
- A test PC with DZSA Launcher installed, a valid Steam installation of DayZ, and enough disk space for the server’s Workshop collection.
The exact control-panel labels differ between hosting companies. The settings that matter are the same: a server-side DZSA integration package, a reachable query port, correct DayZ launch parameters, and a consistent mod list.
Understand the ports before registering the server
DayZ exposes more than one network endpoint. Bohemia Interactive’s server documentation uses -port=2302 as a gameplay-port example. The Steam query port is the endpoint used by external browsers and listing services to ask whether the server is available and to read its basic information. DZSA registration requires the public IP together with that query port in IP:QueryPort form.

The numbers are illustrative; use the values assigned to your installation. Entering the gameplay port when the panel expects the query port can prevent listing even though players who already know the address may still reach the game.
Hosted-server setup
A managed host normally exposes DZSA installation in its control panel. The documented workflow is:
- Open the DayZ service in the hosting control panel.
- Open the Non-Workshop Mods area, or the equivalent add-on section used by that panel.
- Select DZSA Launcher and install the supplied integration.
- Save the change and restart the DayZ service. A restart is required after the initial installation and after later integration changes.
The package supplied by a host handles the server-side files and hooks needed for listing. Do not install a second copy over it unless the host’s documentation explicitly requires that; duplicate or conflicting startup entries make diagnosis harder.
Confirm the hosted startup configuration
Open the panel’s launch-parameter view or startup command after the restart. Confirm that it still points to the intended configuration file and that custom parameters were not removed by a template change. A typical DayZ command includes:

-config=serverDZ.cfg -port=2302 -mod=@ClientModA;@ClientModB -serverMod=@ServerLogicThe syntax and separators can vary with the panel. The important distinctions are that -config= selects the server configuration, -port= identifies the gameplay port, -mod= names packages clients must load, and -serverMod= names packages that run only on the server.
Self-managed server setup
On a machine you administer directly, there is no universal installer path: obtain the DZSA server-side integration supplied for your deployment method, place it according to that package’s instructions, and add its startup requirements to the process that launches DayZ. Keep a rollback copy of the current startup script and configuration before editing.
- Stop the DayZ server process cleanly.
- Install the supplied DZSA integration files in the location required by the package.
- Update the service, batch file, container definition, or other launcher used to start DayZ.
- Check that the command still contains
-config=serverDZ.cfg, the intended gameplay-port=, the client-mod=list, and the server-only-serverMod=list. - Start the server and inspect its normal startup log for configuration or mod-loading errors.
- Restart once more after any panel or integration installer reports that a change is pending.
The integration does not make private servers discoverable by magic. Your firewall, NAT, and hosting network must permit the query endpoint to be reached from the Internet, and the registration must use the externally visible address. If your provider does not give you control of the query port or the startup command, ask whether its DayZ plan supports DZSA before attempting manual files.
Register the server in the DZSA listing
After the integration is installed and the server has restarted, use the DZSA server-check page to add the server:
- Open the server-check form.
- Enter the server’s public IPv4 address.
- Append a colon and the Steam query port, producing
IP:QueryPort. - Submit the check or registration request.
- Wait for the listing to propagate, then search for the server from a separate connection.
Provider documentation gives an approximate five-minute delay before a newly registered server appears. Treat that as an estimate, not a guarantee. If it is still missing after that interval, repeat the check with the exact public IP and query port shown by your provider or network configuration.
How to identify the query port
Look in the hosting panel’s network or connection information, the service’s generated startup command, or the configuration supplied by your deployment method. The value may differ from -port=2302. If documentation lists several ports, choose the one explicitly labelled Steam query, query, or Steam browser rather than the gameplay, RCon, or file-transfer port.

Build a correct DayZ mod layout
DZSA can download Workshop files, but it cannot correct a server that advertises the wrong role for a mod. Every package needed by the client must be available to both sides and listed with -mod=. Logic that should never be sent to players belongs in -serverMod=.

Community mod documentation warns that mismatched client and server lists can produce signature or connection failures. Keep the spelling, punctuation, and package order consistent with the folders installed on the server. When you add or remove a client mod, update the startup command, restart the service, and retest through DZSA rather than relying on a previously cached client session.
Example launch parameters
This example shows the roles, not a universal command for every host:
-config=serverDZ.cfg -port=2302 -mod=@CF;@CommunityFramework;@MapPack -serverMod=@AdminToolsHere, @CF, @CommunityFramework, and @MapPack are presented as client-visible entries, while @AdminTools is server-only. Replace them with the exact folder names used by your installation. A parameter ending in an empty value, a missing semicolon, or an entry that points to a folder that no longer exists can stop the server before it reaches the listing stage.
Keep gameplay customization separate from DZSA registration
DZSA handles discovery and mod delivery; it does not enable DayZ’s optional custom gameplay-file system. If you need custom gameplay values, copy cfggameplay.json into the mission folder and set the following line in serverDZ.cfg:
enableCfgGameplayFile = 1;Restart the server after changing either file. A malformed JSON file can prevent gameplay settings from loading even when DZSA registration is correct, so change one layer at a time: first verify that the server lists and accepts an unmodified client, then enable gameplay customization and test again.

What players must do
Automatic installation works only for players who install DZSA Launcher locally. Give players the server name or listing details and ask them to use the launcher rather than starting DayZ directly for the first connection.
- Install and open DZSA Launcher on the Windows PC that has Steam and DayZ installed.
- Find the registered server in the launcher browser.
- Select the server and begin the connection.
- Allow the launcher to identify the required Workshop items.
- Wait for every missing download and update to finish; do not start DayZ manually in the middle of the process.
- Accept the launch prompt so DZSA starts DayZ with the server’s complete mod set enabled.
Large collections can take time on the first connection. A later connection is normally quicker because the files are already present, although updates can require another download. Players should leave enough disk space for both the Workshop files and temporary update data and should not delete mod folders while the launcher is verifying them.
Verify the integration before inviting players
Use a test account or a second PC if possible. Verification should cover listing, download, launch, and connection rather than only one successful browser search.
- Confirm the server appears in DZSA after registration propagation.
- Open the server entry and check that the displayed name and basic details match the intended instance.
- Connect from a PC that does not already have the server’s mods installed.
- Watch DZSA download the missing Workshop items and report completion.
- Let the launcher start DayZ and verify that the connection reaches the server rather than returning to the main menu.
- Stop the server, change one known client-required mod, restart, and confirm that the listing and download requirements update. Restore the original configuration after the test.
If the first test succeeds but a second player fails, compare the two clients’ active Workshop versions and the server’s current startup command. A cached local installation can hide an incorrect server list during a single-user test.

The server does not appear in DZSA
- Re-run the server-check registration using the public IP, not a LAN address.
- Verify that the value after the colon is the Steam query port, not the gameplay port shown by
-port=. - Confirm that the server-side integration is installed and that the service was restarted afterward.
- Allow approximately five minutes for listing propagation before judging the registration unsuccessful.
- Check that the query endpoint is reachable through the host’s network and firewall policy.
If the server remains absent, ask the host to confirm the externally visible query port and whether its service exposes the integration’s required listing endpoint. A running DayZ process alone does not prove that the query service is reachable.
DZSA lists the server, but the mod download never starts
- Check that the server’s client-required packages are in
-mod=, not only in-serverMod=. - Confirm that each named folder exists on the server and corresponds to the intended Workshop item.
- Restart after changing the command so the integration can read the new requirements.
- On the player PC, close competing DayZ launchers and let DZSA finish any pending Workshop update.
The launcher downloads files, then DayZ rejects the connection
- Compare the server’s
-mod=list with the client’s active list shown by the launcher. - Look for a package accidentally placed in both roles or omitted from one role.
- Check for signature or key errors, which commonly indicate that client and server files do not match.
- Have the player allow all Workshop updates to complete, then retry from a clean launcher start.
The server stopped listing after a DayZ or mod update
Game patches can require updates to DZSA Launcher or to one or more Workshop packages. Update the launcher, let every server-side and client-side Workshop item finish updating, restart the DayZ service, and repeat the server-check registration if the listing was removed. Do not assume that a client who connected before the patch has a current mod set.

The server starts locally but cannot be found from outside
Test from a network that is not the server’s LAN. Recheck the public address, NAT or port-forwarding rules, and the query-port value supplied by the host. The gameplay port being open does not establish that the separate query port is open. On managed hosting, request confirmation of both endpoints rather than changing an arbitrary port.

Hosted versus self-managed deployment
Both approaches can provide the same DZSA player experience, but they expose different controls. The following comparison reflects operational differences, not a ranking of providers; no neutral uptime, price, or performance benchmark is established here.

Choose hosted deployment when you need a guided installation and a panel that exposes the required ports and files. Choose self-management when you need direct control over launch parameters, mission data, and server-only packages and are prepared to maintain networking and updates.
Maintenance routine
After the initial setup, use a repeatable change process:
- Record the current startup command and working mod list.
- Change one mod, parameter, or gameplay file at a time.
- Restart the service after every server-side integration or launch-command change.
- Check the listing from DZSA and test a client that does not have a pre-existing cache when practical.
- After DayZ patches, update DZSA Launcher and Workshop content before troubleshooting connection errors.
- Keep client-required and server-only packages documented separately so a future administrator does not move a package into the wrong parameter.
This separation makes failures easier to classify: a missing listing points first to registration, query-port, integration, or restart issues; a failed download points to the advertised client list; and a signature or connection error points to a client/server mod mismatch or incomplete update.
