The administrator password and the optional player (join) password serve different purposes. If the administrator password is forgotten, stop the server, back up its files, and remove the matching ServerSettings.PORT.sav file above the save directory; the server must then be claimed again.

What Satisfactory Server Manager is for
Server Manager is the in-game entry point for connecting to and administering a Satisfactory dedicated server. It is not the game world itself and it does not replace the dedicated-server process. Its practical jobs are to store a server connection, perform the first claim, create or load a game session when you have administrator rights, and keep track of which player accounts are administrators.
The first player to connect to a new server must complete the claim. Until that happens, the server is unclaimed and normal administration is unavailable. Claiming associates a server name and administrator password with that server and creates the first game session, either as a new game or from an imported save.

Check the version and prerequisites first
Instructions currently in circulation refer to both Satisfactory 1.1 and Update 1.2. Treat menu labels, port requirements and setting names as version-sensitive until they match the build running on your server. A procedure that works on one update may show a slightly different prompt on another.
- Have the server’s reachable IP address or host name and the port it is listening on.
- Use a Satisfactory client that can reach that address through the local network, VPN or Internet path you intend to use.
- Have permission to administer the server. One guide says a licensed client is required to claim and administer a server, but that licensing requirement has not been independently verified.
- Know whether you are creating a fresh session or importing an existing save before you begin the claim.
If the server is running behind a router or firewall, resolve that network path before troubleshooting the Manager. A correct password cannot compensate for a blocked port or an address that is only valid from the host machine.
Add a server to Server Manager
- Start Satisfactory and open Server Manager from the main menu.
- Choose the control for adding a new server entry.
- Enter the server’s IP address and port. Port numbers are not universal across every guide or update;
7777is the most frequently cited game port, so use the value configured on your server rather than assuming it. - Save the entry and select it to connect.
Use the address that is reachable from the client. A private address such as 192.168.x.x is normally useful only inside the same network or an appropriate tunnel; an Internet player generally needs the host’s public address and a correctly forwarded port. Do not add extra punctuation or a protocol prefix unless the current in-game field explicitly requests one.
If the entry fails immediately, verify the address and port character by character, check that the dedicated server is running, and test from the same network before changing passwords. If local players can connect but remote players cannot, investigate routing and firewall rules rather than the claim data.
Claim an unclaimed server
A newly started server begins unclaimed. The first player who successfully connects receives the claim form.

- Connect through the server entry you just added.
- When prompted, enter a name for the server.
- Create the administrator password. Store it in a password manager; it is the credential that controls administrative actions.
- Create the first game session. Select a new game or choose the imported save offered by the server.
- Finish the prompt and wait for the session to load before disconnecting.
Claiming is a one-time setup for that server state, not a password that players type every time they join. The account that completes the claim is remembered as an administrator. If the claim screen never appears, another administrator may already have claimed the server, the server may not actually be the instance you intended to reach, or the connection may be landing on a different port.

Understand the two passwords

Do not give the administrator password to every player simply so they can join. Leave the join password disabled when the server is meant to be open to everyone who can reach it, or configure a separate player password when you need an additional barrier. An administrator can grant administrative access to other players without publishing the administrator credential.
Administrator status is remembered per account. If a player should no longer administer the server, remove that access through the available administration controls and rotate the administrator password if it may have been exposed.
Create, load and change a session
Start a new game
During the initial claim, choose the new-game option when the server should begin without an imported world. The claim flow creates the first session and makes it available to connecting players.
Use an imported save
If the server presents an imported save during claiming, select it to make that world the first session. Confirm that the save belongs to the intended server before proceeding; loading the wrong world is an administrative choice rather than a harmless connection test.

Load or replace a session later
Once you are an administrator, the administrator password protects save loading, Server Options and new-game creation. Ordinary players can join the active session but should not be able to perform those operations. Make a separate backup of important saves before replacing the active session, especially when several players are online.
Ports and connectivity
Port advice differs between guides and may change with the game update. The values below are the ones that appear in the available guidance, not a universal requirement for every installation.

Forward only the ports required by the server version and network design. A firewall rule must allow the same protocol and port that the server uses, and a router must forward traffic to the machine running the dedicated server. If you change the listening port, update the Server Manager entry as well.
When diagnosing a connection, work from simplest to most complex: connect locally on the host, connect from another device on the same network, then test an external connection. This sequence separates a stopped service from a firewall problem and from a router or public-address problem.
What the console commands can and cannot do
A third-party guide lists the following commands and variables. They are not confirmed here as an official, complete command reference, so test them on a disposable server or after making a backup and check the syntax for the exact game build.

The same guide says it does not provide commands for kicking, banning, giving items or teleporting players. Do not assume that a familiar command from another Unreal Engine game exists in Satisfactory. If a command is rejected, record the exact error, revert any experimental setting and consult documentation for the server’s current update.
Reset a forgotten administrator password
The documented recovery method is file-based and destructive to several server settings. Use it only when you cannot authenticate as an administrator.

- Back up the server directory, including saves and configuration files.
- Locate the
ServerSettings.PORT.savfile above the save directory. For a server using port 7777, the example name isServerSettings.7777.sav. - Delete that matching ServerSettings file, or move it to a backup location outside the active configuration path.
- Start the server and connect through Server Manager.
- Complete the claim process again by choosing a server name, setting a new administrator password and creating or selecting the game session.
Removing the file clears more than the password: it also removes the server name, player password, auto-load session and certificate. Plan to re-enter those settings during the new claim. A reported Q&A thread says this reset is not guaranteed in every situation, so retain the backup and be prepared to restore it if the server state does not behave as expected.
Do not delete a similarly named file while the server is still running. A running process may recreate the file, keep old values in memory or leave the configuration in an inconsistent state.

The HTTPS API can be used for automation, but the claim request sends the administrator password in plaintext within that request. Protect the transport, limit who can read automation logs and never place the password in a shared script or public repository.

The API can assist with administration after access is configured, but it cannot reset a forgotten administrator password. Password recovery therefore remains a local file operation followed by a fresh claim.
Troubleshoot common failures
The server entry cannot connect
- Confirm that the dedicated server process is running and listening on the address and port entered in Server Manager.
- Check whether you used a private address from outside the local network.
- Verify firewall and router rules for the configured protocol and port.
- Test locally, then from another device on the same network, before testing over the Internet.
The claim prompt does not appear
- Make sure you reached the intended server instance, not another server using the same public address or a stale entry.
- Ask existing administrators whether the server has already been claimed.
- Confirm that the client and server are on compatible game updates.
- If the administrator password was recently reset, stop and restart the server and repeat the claim rather than reusing an old Manager entry.
A player can join but cannot administer
Joining proves only that the player reached the session. Administrative actions require the account to be recognized as an administrator. The player should connect with the account that completed the claim, or an existing administrator should grant access. The join password does not confer administrator privileges.
Players are asked for a password unexpectedly
Check whether a player (join) password was configured. It is separate from the administrator password and is optional by default. If players know the admin password but still cannot join, they may be entering the wrong credential for the prompt.
The reset did not work
Verify that the server was stopped, that the file name includes the actual configured port, and that the file was above the save directory rather than inside it. Restore the backup if important settings disappeared, then seek build-specific guidance because the reported reset method is not guaranteed.
Operational checklist
- Record the server address, configured port and game update before distributing connection details.
- Keep the administrator password separate from any player password.
- Back up saves and the ServerSettings file before changing sessions, experimenting with commands or attempting a password reset.
- Grant administrator access only to accounts that need it.
- Review API scripts for plaintext password exposure and invalidate API tokens when they are no longer trusted.
- Document the exact port and settings that worked so a replacement client can recreate the Server Manager entry.
What Server Manager does not provide
Server Manager is a connection and administration interface; it is not evidence that every dedicated-server console command is available. The available command list does not establish built-in kick, ban, item-giving or teleport commands, and the HTTPS API does not provide administrator-password recovery. Treat those capabilities as absent unless documentation for your exact server version explicitly confirms them.
The Bottom Line
Add the server with its real IP and configured port, complete the one-time claim with a server name and administrator password, and keep that credential separate from any player password. For a forgotten administrator password, back up the server, remove the matching ServerSettings.PORT.sav file above the save directory, and claim the server again.
