The reliable setup depends on where your WordPress site is hosted. For a WordPress.com site, or a self-hosted site connected through an eligible Jetpack plan, use WordPress.com’s official MCP endpoint and browser-based OAuth. For another self-hosted installation, you need a WordPress MCP plugin such as WSP MCP; its directory listing claims OpenClaw support, but that is a publisher claim rather than an independently verified integration. In both cases, install and onboard OpenClaw first, start with read-only checks, and enable write tools only after you understand the permissions and audit controls.
Antihost offers managed WordPress hosting with free migration, one-click staging and a 14-day free trial.
This guide separates those routes, gives the commands and account requirements that are documented, and clearly marks the one part that is not documented: the exact current OpenClaw screen or configuration syntax for adding a remote MCP server. Do not copy a command written for another client and assume it works in OpenClaw.

What you need before connecting WordPress
Prepare these items before opening the WordPress connection settings:
- An OpenClaw installation with onboarding completed.
- Node.js 26, which the current OpenClaw documentation recommends. Node 24.16 or newer, or Node 26.1 or newer, is listed as supported.
- An API key for the model provider you choose during onboarding.
- Administrator or otherwise sufficient WordPress permissions for the operations you intend to perform.
- A decision about which connection route matches your site: WordPress.com MCP, an eligible Jetpack-connected self-hosted site, or a separate self-hosted MCP plugin.
- A backup and a staging site if the agent may edit posts, pages, media, users, settings, or code.
OpenClaw’s official documentation is the source for installer and onboarding details: https://docs.openclaw.ai/. WordPress access is a separate concern; installing OpenClaw does not automatically grant it access to a site.

Choose the correct WordPress connection
| Route | Site eligibility | Connection owner | Authentication and controls | OpenClaw setup detail |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WordPress.com MCP | WordPress.com sites on paid plans. Free sites have access during their first 30 days. | First-party WordPress.com service. | Browser OAuth 2.1; WordPress.com documents PKCE, dynamic client registration, token rotation, and revocation. Connected Apps can be disconnected. | The endpoint is documented, but the reviewed OpenClaw documentation does not publish an exact current remote-server command or UI sequence. |
| Jetpack-connected self-hosted site | A self-hosted site connected through Jetpack AI or Jetpack Complete, subject to current plan and service eligibility. | WordPress.com MCP service operating through the connection. | The WordPress.com OAuth flow and its revocation controls apply. | Use OpenClaw’s MCP interface; verify the current eligibility and client steps before enabling writes. |
| Other self-hosted WordPress | Any installation for which an installed MCP plugin exposes a server. | Third-party plugin publisher and your WordPress host. | For WSP MCP, the listing describes a private connection key or application password, WordPress-user permissions, an audit log, and write tools disabled initially. | The WSP listing says it supports OpenClaw and instructs users to copy its displayed connection configuration, but it does not publish a written OpenClaw snippet in the reviewed text. |
| WordPress.org MCP server | Plugin developers working with the WordPress.org directory. | WordPress.org. | Designed for plugin-directory operations. | Not a general-purpose connection for editing an ordinary WordPress site. |
For first-party eligibility and the endpoint, see WordPress.com’s MCP documentation. For the separate directory workflow, see the WordPress.org MCP Plugin Handbook.
Install and onboard OpenClaw
Complete OpenClaw’s own setup before troubleshooting WordPress. The installer starts onboarding according to the official quick start. The guided flow can configure provider access and the Gateway, which is the service OpenClaw uses for its control interface and agent activity.
- Install OpenClaw with the installer for your operating system from the official documentation. Use Node 26 where possible. If your environment cannot use it, check that it meets the documented supported ranges: Node 24.16 or newer, or Node 26.1 or newer.
- Run the onboarding flow when prompted, or start it with
openclaw onboard. Select a model provider and supply that provider’s API key. The key is for model access; it is not a WordPress password. - Let onboarding configure the Gateway. Keep the initial foreground process running long enough to confirm that OpenClaw starts correctly.
- If the Gateway is running in the foreground, stop it with
Ctrl+Cbefore installing its background service. Then runopenclaw gateway install. - Open the local interface with
openclaw dashboard. Confirm that the Gateway is reachable and that a basic agent conversation works before adding WordPress.
Do not troubleshoot an MCP connection while the underlying OpenClaw installation is failing. A missing provider key, unsupported Node version, or stopped Gateway can look like a WordPress connection problem.
Connect WordPress.com or an eligible Jetpack site
WordPress.com publishes an official MCP server at https://public-api.wordpress.com/wpcom/v2/mcp/v1. The same route can serve eligible self-hosted sites connected through Jetpack. The account and plan rules are important: WordPress.com says MCP is available on all paid plans, while free sites have access during their first 30 days. A self-hosted site using this route requires a Jetpack AI or Jetpack Complete plan, subject to the provider’s current eligibility rules.
Enable MCP in WordPress.com
- Sign in to the WordPress.com account that controls the site.
- Open the account settings area and enable MCP. The exact labels can change, so use the current MCP documentation if the setting has moved.
- Keep the endpoint available for the client step:
https://public-api.wordpress.com/wpcom/v2/mcp/v1. - In OpenClaw, open the MCP-capable client or server-connection interface supplied by your installed version. Add the WordPress.com endpoint as a remote MCP server.
- Save the connection and follow the browser prompt. Approve the requested WordPress.com access with OAuth 2.1, completing the browser flow in the same account that owns or manages the site.
The official documentation gives explicit client commands for some other clients, including Codex, but those commands are not OpenClaw commands. Do not paste a command such as codex mcp add wpcom-mcp --url https://public-api.wordpress.com/wpcom/v2/mcp/v1 into a shell and assume OpenClaw will recognize it. The reviewed OpenClaw and WordPress.com documentation identifies the endpoint and OAuth requirements but does not specify a current OpenClaw configuration key, command, or screen sequence. Use the MCP interface shown by your installed OpenClaw release and verify its syntax against the current OpenClaw documentation.

Finish OAuth and check revocation
WordPress.com’s flow is designed so that the authorization happens in the browser rather than by handing your WordPress password to the AI client. Its documentation describes OAuth 2.1 with PKCE, dynamic client registration, token rotation, and revocation. After authorization, open the account’s Security → Connected Apps area if you need to inspect or disconnect the client. Disconnecting the app revokes that connection; it does not uninstall OpenClaw.
How do I set up WordPress MCP for development?
For development on WordPress.com, enable MCP in the account settings, add the published endpoint to an MCP-capable client, and complete OAuth in the browser. Then point your development prompts at a staging site or a narrowly scoped test site first. Ask the agent to identify the site, list a small set of posts, or retrieve a known page before allowing any mutation.
For a self-hosted development site, first determine whether it is connected to Jetpack AI or Jetpack Complete. If it is, the WordPress.com route may be available; if not, install and evaluate a self-hosted MCP plugin. Development work is safer when the WordPress user used by the connection has only the capabilities required for the task and when production credentials are not reused in a local or staging environment.
Connect another self-hosted WordPress site with an MCP plugin
For an ordinary self-hosted installation that is not eligible for the WordPress.com route, a site-side MCP plugin is the alternative. The WordPress.org listing for WSP MCP says that it supports OpenClaw and describes this general sequence:
- Install the plugin from its WordPress.org listing and activate it in the site’s WordPress admin.
- Open the plugin’s MCP settings and select which tools are enabled.
- Copy the connection configuration displayed by the plugin into the AI client.
- Restart the client so it reloads the MCP connection.
- Run a low-risk read request and confirm that the returned site identity is the intended site.
The listing is the publisher’s statement of compatibility, not an independent verification of the integration. It does not publish a written OpenClaw configuration snippet in the reviewed text. Therefore, do not invent a JSON block, environment variable, URL path, or command. Copy only the configuration that the currently installed plugin displays, and check its current instructions before relying on it.

Understand the plugin’s stated controls
The WSP MCP listing says that write tools are disabled initially, actions are logged, and access can use a private connection key or an application password tied to a WordPress user. Treat those as product claims that you should verify in your own installation. Before enabling a write tool, confirm which WordPress user it uses, what capabilities that user has, where the audit log is located, how keys are rotated, and how to disable the endpoint.
An application password is not a license to grant administrator access to every operation. Create a dedicated WordPress user with the minimum role and capabilities required for the intended workflow. Keep the connection key or application password out of prompts, public repositories, screenshots, and shared chat logs.

Do not confuse WordPress.org’s MCP service with site editing
WordPress.org operates an MCP service for plugin-directory work. The official handbook describes tasks such as validating a plugin readme, retrieving review status, and submitting a plugin. That service is for developers submitting to the WordPress.org directory; it is not a generic API for editing posts, pages, menus, media, or settings on your hosted WordPress site.
If your goal is to change the content of a normal site, choose the WordPress.com endpoint or a site-side MCP plugin instead. Using the directory service will not create a management connection to your site.

How do I connect WordPress with OpenClaw?
Use this decision path:
- Identify the hosting arrangement. Select WordPress.com, Jetpack-connected self-hosted, or another self-hosted installation.
- For WordPress.com or eligible Jetpack sites, enable MCP, add
https://public-api.wordpress.com/wpcom/v2/mcp/v1in OpenClaw’s MCP-capable interface, and complete browser OAuth. - For another self-hosted site, install a current MCP plugin, configure its enabled tools, copy its displayed connection details, and restart OpenClaw. Confirm the plugin’s current OpenClaw compatibility before depending on it.
- For plugin-directory submissions, use WordPress.org’s separate MCP service rather than a site-editing connection.
- In every case, begin with a read-only smoke test and inspect the tool list before enabling writes.
The exact OpenClaw remote-MCP syntax is version-sensitive and is not supplied in the reviewed official material. If your installed release has no MCP-server connection interface, do not assume that a WordPress URL can be placed into an arbitrary configuration file; consult the current OpenClaw release documentation or support information for that release.
Verify the connection safely
After authorization or plugin configuration, validate the connection in increasing levels of risk:
- Identity check: ask OpenClaw to report the site name or retrieve one known public page. Confirm the domain and content belong to the intended environment.
- Read check: request a short list of recent posts or pages. Check titles, statuses, and dates against WordPress admin.
- Draft check: if a write-capable tool is necessary, create a clearly labeled draft rather than publishing. Confirm the draft in WordPress admin.
- Permission check: review which tools are enabled and whether the connected WordPress user can perform more actions than your workflow needs.
- Rollback check: verify that you can disconnect OAuth or disable the plugin endpoint, and that you have a backup or revision history before production edits.
This staged test is operational guidance, not a special OpenClaw certification procedure. Its purpose is to catch a wrong domain, wrong account, broad permissions, or unexpected tool behavior before an irreversible action.

WordPress.com OAuth route
WordPress.com says its OAuth flow avoids storing WordPress credentials on your computer or sharing them with the AI client. It documents PKCE, dynamic client registration, token rotation, and revocation. Those statements apply to the WordPress.com service. Use Security → Connected Apps to review or revoke access when a device, client, or project should no longer connect.
Self-hosted plugin route
A self-hosted plugin has a different trust boundary. The WSP MCP listing describes a private connection key or application password, WordPress-user permissions, an audit log, and write tools disabled until enabled. Those are listing claims, not an independent security audit. Check the plugin code, update history, support status, and current settings yourself before exposing a production site.
Best Value
- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. - Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
- Use a dedicated user and the least-privileged role that works.
- Keep write tools off until a read-only workflow is proven.
- Store keys in the client’s protected secret storage, not in prompts or source control.
- Review audit entries after every write session.
- Rotate or revoke credentials when a team member, machine, or project changes.
- Use staging for bulk edits, template changes, migrations, and code-related work.
Common setup failures and fixes
OpenClaw starts but cannot use a model
Return to onboarding and confirm the provider API key, provider selection, and supported Node version. A WordPress endpoint cannot compensate for a Gateway that has no working model provider.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The browser authorization succeeds but OpenClaw shows no tools
Confirm that MCP was enabled in WordPress.com account settings, that the endpoint is exactly https://public-api.wordpress.com/wpcom/v2/mcp/v1, and that the Gateway or client was restarted after saving the connection. Check the Connected Apps page for the authorized account. If the installed OpenClaw release has no documented remote-MCP control, seek the release-specific configuration instructions rather than guessing a key name.
The site is self-hosted and WordPress.com rejects it
Check whether the site is connected through Jetpack AI or Jetpack Complete and whether the current plan is eligible. If it is not, use a self-hosted MCP plugin route and evaluate that plugin’s credentials and controls separately.
A plugin connection exposes too many actions
Return to the plugin’s MCP settings and disable unnecessary tools. Remove administrator-level credentials, create a narrower WordPress user, and rotate the key if it was exposed. Re-run the identity and read checks before re-enabling any write capability.
A write request fails or is blocked
Check whether writes are intentionally disabled, whether the WordPress user has the required capability, and whether the requested operation is supported by the enabled tool. A blocked write is preferable to silently broadening permissions; adjust one control at a time and test with a draft.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →OpenClaw plugins versus remote MCP servers
You do not need to write a custom OpenClaw plugin merely to connect a remote MCP server. The remote-server route is the relevant choice when WordPress.com or a WordPress MCP plugin already exposes the tools you need. OpenClaw’s plugin SDK overview labels plugin APIs experimental, so custom plugin development introduces an additional compatibility surface. Consider it only when the standard MCP connection cannot provide a required workflow and you are prepared to track API changes.

Maintenance checklist
- Recheck WordPress.com plan eligibility and Jetpack requirements after plan changes.
- Review OpenClaw release notes and confirm that the MCP connection syntax still matches your installed version.
- Update the WordPress site, MCP plugin, and OpenClaw from trusted sources, then repeat the read-only identity test.
- Audit Connected Apps, plugin keys, application passwords, and WordPress user roles periodically.
- Keep write tools disabled when the agent is not actively performing a controlled task.
- Retain backups and use revisions or staging before bulk or destructive operations.
With those controls in place, OpenClaw can act as an MCP client for WordPress without confusing WordPress.org’s plugin-submission service with site management, or treating an unverified plugin claim as a first-party integration.
