Sign in as the family manager or as a parent/guardian appointed by that manager, then open Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management. Select the child, set the child account’s time zone, open Playtime Settings, choose the days, playable hours, duration and end-of-session action, and select Save. The controls are attached to the child’s account, so they also apply when that child signs in on a PS4.
PlayStation does not prescribe one correct number of hours for every family. Instead, it provides a schedule for each day, warnings before time expires, and either a reminder-only or forced sign-out response. The account and family setup must be correct before those controls can work reliably.

What you need before configuring limits
Playtime controls are family-account settings, not a switch that any profile on the console can change. The adult performing the setup must be the PlayStation family manager or a parent/guardian that the family manager has appointed. The child must be added to that family with a separate child account. PlayStation explains the adult-and-child account relationship in its family-account guide: set up family accounts on PlayStation.
- An adult PlayStation account with family-manager status, or parent/guardian permission.
- A separate child account added as a family member. A child cannot be managed as an ordinary guest profile.
- The child account’s correct time zone. Playtime schedules use that account setting, so set it before creating a timetable.
- Email verification completed for the child account and the child signed in on the console. PlayStation lists these as steps that help parental controls operate effectively.
- Access to the PS5 while signed in with the adult account. You can also manage the settings later through Account Management on the web or the PlayStation Family app.
Adult and child accounts are intentionally separate. The adult controls the family settings, while the child signs in with the child account that receives the restrictions. Do not configure the schedule from the child profile and expect it to become an adult-managed family rule.

How playtime limits work
A playtime rule combines three decisions: whether restrictions are enabled, how long the child may play, and the hours during which play is allowed. You can set those values for every day or give different days different schedules. For example, a family can allow a longer window on a weekend and a shorter window on a school night without relying on one weekly average.
The end-of-time behavior is also configurable. Notify Only warns the child but does not automatically sign the account out. Log Out signs the child out when the permitted time ends. Choose the behavior that matches the supervision you can provide; a warning is useful when an adult is nearby, while automatic sign-out is more enforceable when nobody can monitor the screen.
The rule belongs to the child account rather than to one physical console. If the child uses both a PS5 and a PS4 with that account, the restriction applies on both systems. This is important when a child moves between consoles: changing the rule on one console does not create a separate allowance on the other.

Step-by-step: set a schedule on the PS5
- Sign in with the managing adult account. On the PS5, use the family manager profile or the adult profile that has been appointed as a parent/guardian. A standard adult account without family authority will not expose the child-management controls.
- Open the family-management menu. From the PS5 home screen, select Settings, then Family and Parental Controls, and finally Family Management.
- Select the child. Choose the child’s family-member account from the list. If the child is absent, stop here and add the child as a family member with a child account before trying to create a schedule.
- Confirm the time zone. If the account has not been assigned the correct time zone, set it now. A schedule created against the wrong zone can start or end at unexpected local times, particularly after travel or a move.
- Open Playtime Settings. With the child selected, choose Playtime Settings. This is where the daily restriction, duration, allowed hours and end action are configured.
- Choose the days to control. Configure each day individually or apply the same pattern to the days that share a routine. The controls are day-based, so review weekdays and weekends rather than assuming one setting covers the entire week.
- Set Playtime Duration. Enter the amount of permitted play for that day. This is the allowed duration, not automatically the length of the whole clock window. Keep the value realistic for the child’s routine and for the amount of supervision available.
- Set Playable Hours. Define when play may occur during that day. A duration and a clock window answer different questions: duration controls total permitted time, while playable hours define the times at which play can take place.
- Choose the end action. Select Notify Only to warn without signing out, or Log Out to end the child’s session automatically when the allowance expires.
- Save the schedule. Select Save after reviewing every day. Leaving the screen without saving discards the changes.
Do not enter a single universal number simply because another family uses it. The official instructions document configurable controls, not an ideal daily duration. A useful schedule reflects school, sleep, activities, weekends and the child’s age, while remaining simple enough for adults to maintain consistently.
Choosing duration and playable hours without creating loopholes
Separate the allowance from the clock window
Suppose a child may play for two hours on a school day, but only between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. The two-hour duration limits total use; the four-hour playable window determines when those two hours can be used. If you set only one of these values thoughtfully, the other can undermine the routine. Write down both the total allowance and the permitted start-and-stop times before entering them.
Use different patterns for different days
Weekday homework and bedtime often require a narrower window than a non-school day. Create separate day settings rather than repeatedly changing one rule. Review the schedule after holidays, timetable changes or a move to a different time zone.

Decide whether warnings are enough
Notify Only leaves the final decision with the family. It works when an adult can respond to a warning and the child is expected to stop voluntarily. Log Out provides an automatic boundary, but a child may lose unsaved progress if a game does not save before the session ends. Explain the selected behavior in advance and encourage the child to save before the warning period finishes.

What the child sees near the limit
As the permitted time approaches its end, PlayStation displays an on-screen notification at the top of the screen. The warning gives the child an opportunity to finish a safe stopping point rather than being surprised by the cutoff. The exact lead time can depend on the system’s notification behavior; the documented control is the warning itself, not a guaranteed number of minutes.
A family manager, parent or guardian can change the child’s playtime for that day from the PS5 or the PlayStation Family app. A child can also use the reminder to request more time. The adult receives a notification and can approve a changed limit or decline the request. Treat an approval as a change for the current day, then check the regular schedule if the same exception should not repeat.
When a changed rule does not seem to apply
If an adult edits parental controls while the child is already playing, PlayStation recommends that the child sign out and sign back in. A game session that was running during the change may not immediately reflect the new rule. This sign-out/sign-in refresh is especially important after changing today’s allowance or switching between notification and automatic sign-out behavior.
For a change that still appears ineffective, work through these checks in order:

- Confirm that the adult account used to edit the setting is the family manager or an appointed parent/guardian.
- Open the child’s family profile again and verify that the edited day, duration and playable hours were saved.
- Check the child account’s time zone. An incorrect zone can make a correct schedule appear shifted.
- Have the child sign out of PlayStation Network and sign back in, then relaunch the game.
- If the child uses both PS5 and PS4, verify that the same child account is being used on each console; the rule follows the account, not a different local profile.
- Check whether the adult changed only today’s allowance through a reminder. A one-day adjustment does not necessarily rewrite the repeating weekly schedule.
Manage controls away from the PS5
Account Management on the web
PlayStation documents a web route for the family manager or appointed parent/guardian. Sign in to Account Management, open Family Management, select the child, and edit the playtime limit. This is useful when the console is occupied or when an adult needs to respond to a request from another device. The web controls are still account-based, so the resulting rule follows the child to PS5 and PS4.
PlayStation Family app
The PlayStation Family app provides another management route for a child’s playtime and related parental controls. It can be used to respond to a child’s request or change that day’s allowance without navigating the console. Sign in with the managing adult account and select the relevant child; do not use the child’s login for adult approvals.
PlayStation’s overview explains that family management is available through console, web and mobile routes, alongside settings for age restrictions, privacy and spending: PlayStation parental controls. Availability of individual screens can differ by region and account status, so use the route that is displayed for your family.
Other PS5 parental controls worth configuring
Playtime is only one part of the family setup. The broader parental-control area can govern the age level of games and other content, communication and privacy choices, and spending permissions. These settings are separate from the clock schedule: allowing a game by age rating does not grant extra time, and a short play window does not by itself block chat or purchases.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.

Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
The PS5 Quick Start Guide describes the scope this way: “Parental controls let you set restrictions on the games children can play, when and how long they play, whether or not they can chat, and more.” The guide also explains that adults and children use separate accounts and that a child account is linked to the adult’s account as a family. You can read the official manual here: CFI-7119 PS5 Quick Start Guide.
After creating the time schedule, review the other categories in Family Management and set only the permissions your household needs. Keep purchase approval, privacy and communication decisions explicit so a child does not interpret a playtime warning as permission for unrelated account activity.
Common setup mistakes and their fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The Playtime Settings option is missing. | The signed-in adult is not the family manager or an appointed parent/guardian, or the child is not in the family. | Sign in with the managing adult account and confirm that the child has a separate child account added as a family member. |
| The limit starts or ends at an unexpected local time. | The child account’s time zone is wrong or was never set. | Open the child’s Family Management profile, set the correct time zone, then review and save the schedule again. |
| The child can continue after an adult edited the rule. | The child was already in a game when the control changed. | Have the child sign out and sign back in, then start the game again. |
| The child receives warnings but is not logged out. | The end action is set to Notify Only. | Change the relevant day’s action to Log Out and save, if automatic enforcement is appropriate. |
| A child has a different allowance on another console. | A different account or local profile is being used, or the new rule has not refreshed. | Verify the same child account is signed in on both consoles and refresh the session by signing out and back in. |
| A one-day extension changed but the weekly routine did not. | The adult approved a daily request rather than editing the recurring schedule. | Use Playtime Settings to change the repeating day pattern; treat reminder approvals as exceptions. |
A practical family routine for maintaining the limits
- Set the account foundation once. Confirm adult authority, the child account, email verification and the time zone before creating any timetable.
- Draft the week outside the menu. Note school, sleep, activities and travel, then translate each day into a duration and playable-hours window.
- Choose one enforcement style. Use Notify Only when an adult will actively supervise the end of play; use Log Out when the boundary must be automatic.
- Explain the warning process. Tell the child where the on-screen reminder appears and how to request more time, so a request is not mistaken for an automatic extension.
- Review exceptions separately. A special allowance for today should not silently become the new weekly rule. Check the recurring settings after granting an exception.
- Revisit the schedule when circumstances change. New school hours, holidays, travel or a different time zone can make an old timetable unsuitable.
The controls are most effective when the child knows the schedule before launching a game and adults use the same rule across both PS5 and PS4. The console provides the enforcement mechanism; the family still decides what duration and hours fit its routine.
