WebAdmin is built into a Killing Floor 2 dedicated server. To enable it, stop the server, set bEnabled=true in KFGame/Config/KFWeb.ini under [IpDrv.WebServer], configure an AdminPassword in the server’s KFGame configuration (or with a startup parameter), then restart. The normal control panel is http://<server-address>:8080/WebAdmin/; use 127.0.0.1 on the server itself, a LAN address from the same network, or a public address only after forwarding the WebAdmin TCP port.
What KF2 WebAdmin is and when it is available
Killing Floor 2 WebAdmin is the game’s built-in HTTP administration service. It is not a separate program, web application, or daemon that you install beside the dedicated server. The service is started by the dedicated-server process, so it exists only while that process is running.

Once enabled, WebAdmin gives you browser-based controls for routine server administration. The browser endpoint normally ends in /WebAdmin/, and the default listener uses TCP port 8080. A server can therefore be running correctly for players while WebAdmin is disabled, blocked by a firewall, or listening on a different port.
Default ports and what each one does
Use the following defaults as a starting point, not as a promise that every host uses them. A hosted control panel, a second server on the same machine, or a custom launch script can change the WebAdmin port.

WebAdmin is the only service in this list that uses TCP. Opening or forwarding the UDP game port does not make the browser panel reachable. For remote administration, permit and forward the actual WebAdmin TCP port as well as whatever game ports your server requires.
Before editing: identify the active server installation
Make sure you are changing the configuration used by the running instance, not a template, an old installation, or another server profile. A machine hosting multiple KF2 instances may have separate configuration directories and different launch scripts.

- Know whether the server runs on Windows or Linux so you can select the corresponding KFGame server INI.
- Record the current game, query, Steam, and WebAdmin port values if your host has customized them.
- Have console or file-manager access to stop and start the dedicated server.
- Choose an administrator password that is not reused elsewhere.
- If the server is behind a router, know the server’s private LAN address and which public port will be forwarded to it.
Install or update the dedicated-server files through your chosen distribution, then start the server once. The first launch normally creates the configuration files. Stop it again before making changes.
Self-hosted setup, step by step
1. Stop the dedicated server
Do not edit a live configuration and assume the running process will reload it. Stop the server cleanly from its console, service manager, or launch wrapper. If a wrapper automatically restarts it, disable that restart briefly so it cannot overwrite or race with your edits.
2. Enable the WebAdmin listener
Open KFGame/Config/KFWeb.ini. Locate the [IpDrv.WebServer] section and set the enable flag to true:

bEnabled=truePreserve the existing section and formatting. If the file contains more than one similarly named section, edit the active WebServer section in the profile used by the dedicated-server launch command. A value in an unused template will have no effect.

3. Set the administrator password
Set AdminPassword in the platform-specific KFGame server INI used by your instance. Windows installations commonly use a PCServer configuration, while Linux installations use a LinuxServer configuration; the exact filename and profile location depend on how the server was installed.

?adminpassword=<value>When both are present, documented community guidance says the launch-line value takes priority over the INI value. Check the startup command if a newly edited password appears to be ignored.
Avoid putting a password directly on a command line when other users can see process listings or when startup logs are retained. Storing AdminPassword in the protected server INI is safer operationally. Protect the file with the operating system’s normal permissions and do not paste the password into support tickets or public logs.

Start the dedicated server again and watch its startup output for the WebAdmin listener. The browser service is available only after the game server process has started successfully. If the game process exits, crashes, or is stopped, the WebAdmin page disappears too.
Test on the server machine first:
http://127.0.0.1:8080/WebAdmin/A local test separates configuration problems from router and firewall problems. If this URL fails on the server itself, do not troubleshoot public DNS or port forwarding yet.

5. Connect from the correct network address
- On the server: use
127.0.0.1and the configured TCP port. - From another device on the same LAN: use the server’s private address, for example
http://192.168.1.50:8080/WebAdmin/, with your actual address and port. - From the internet: use the public address and forward the chosen external TCP port to the server host and its internal WebAdmin port.
Always include the trailing /WebAdmin/ path. A response from the root address alone is not a reliable test of the administration interface.
6. Sign in
The documented login username is Admin. Enter that username and the password currently in effect after considering any launch-line override. Passwords are case-sensitive.
If the page reports invalid form data rather than accepting valid credentials, one community troubleshooting guide recommends testing HTTP authentication by adding bHttpAuth=true in KFWebAdmin.ini. Treat this as a compatibility troubleshooting step, not a setting every installation needs. Change one setting at a time, restart the server when required, and retest locally.
Changing the WebAdmin port
Port 8080 is the normal default, but it is not mandatory. Multiple KF2 servers on one host cannot all listen on the same TCP port, and a provider may assign a port automatically. If you select a custom port, use that value consistently in the server configuration, firewall rule, router forward, and browser URL:
http://<server-address>:<custom-port>/WebAdmin/Do not assume that changing the external router port changes the internal listener. A router can map one public TCP port to the server’s actual WebAdmin port, but both sides of the rule must point to the correct host and service.
Firewall and router rules for remote administration
A working local page proves that the service is enabled; it does not prove that remote traffic can reach it. For remote access, check each layer in order:

- Host firewall: allow inbound TCP traffic on 8080 or your custom WebAdmin port for the appropriate network profile.
- Server bind and process: confirm the KF2 process is running and listening on the expected port.
- Router/NAT: forward the public TCP port to the server’s current private IP address.
- Address and port: browse to the public address with the explicit port and
/WebAdmin/path. - Port conflicts: verify that another application or another KF2 instance is not already using the selected port.
Use a reserved DHCP lease or a static LAN address for the server. Otherwise, a router reboot can assign a new private address and silently invalidate the forwarding rule. Expose only the ports your topology requires; WebAdmin is an administrative surface and should not be opened to the entire internet without a reason.
Why 192.168.x.x:8080 does not work
The address is being tested from outside the LAN
Addresses beginning with 192.168. are private LAN addresses. They are routable inside the same local network, not across the public internet. Use the server’s private address only from a device connected to that LAN. Remote administrators must use the public address and a router forward.
The WebAdmin service is disabled or the wrong file was edited
Reopen the active KFWeb.ini and confirm bEnabled=true under [IpDrv.WebServer]. Check the profile used by the running instance, restart the server, and test from 127.0.0.1.

The port is not 8080
Hosted panels, custom launch scripts, and multi-server layouts can assign another port. Use the value shown by the panel or launch configuration instead of assuming 8080.
The host firewall blocks TCP
Game clients may still connect over UDP while TCP 8080 remains blocked. Add the WebAdmin TCP rule, then retry from another LAN device. Do not open only UDP 8080.
The router forwards to the wrong machine
Check the destination private IP and confirm that the server still has that address. A correct rule aimed at an old DHCP address produces the same timeout as a closed port.

The test is using a public address from inside the same LAN
Some routers do not support NAT loopback (also called hairpin NAT). Test locally with the private address, or test the public address from a genuinely external connection. This is a router behavior, not proof that WebAdmin is misconfigured.

Another process owns the port
Inspect the server startup output and operating-system listening sockets. Stop the conflicting service or assign a different WebAdmin port, then update every related firewall and forwarding rule.

A community configuration guide documents the following authentication class in KFWebAdmin.ini under [WebAdmin.WebAdmin]:
AuthenticationClass=WebAdmin.MultiWebAdminAuthThis mode supports separate administrator accounts and permission rules. Configure additional accounts through the WebAdmin interface where possible, and restart when the interface or guide indicates that a change requires it. Keep the primary Admin account protected even after adding other accounts, and remove accounts that are no longer needed.
Because account and permission behavior can vary with the server build and configuration profile, make a backup of the relevant INI files before changing authentication classes. Test a second account in a private browser session before ending the only known-good administrative session.

On a managed server, you may not edit the same files or choose the same ports as on a self-hosted installation. The provider’s panel can expose enable, password, and port controls while hiding the underlying INI files.

One documented managed workflow is: stop the server, enable WebAdmin in the panel, note the automatically assigned WebAdmin port, set the Admin Password, and start the server again. Another hosting workflow accepts ?WebAdminPort=<PORT> in the startup script. Some panels combine a hosted-properties file with a WebAdmin page for the essential options. Follow the labels and port shown by your own provider rather than applying a self-hosted path blindly.
Security practices that matter
- Use a long, unique administrator password and change it if it has appeared in a command history, process list, console transcript, or support log.
- Restrict firewall and router rules to the networks that genuinely need access when your setup allows it.
- Do not expose every dedicated-server port just because a setup guide lists defaults. Forward only required services.
- Keep configuration backups private; they may contain administrator or game passwords.
- After changing a password or authentication class, close old browser sessions and verify that the previous credential no longer works.
- For a temporary remote maintenance window, remove the public forward afterward if permanent internet access is unnecessary.
A repeatable diagnostic order
When WebAdmin fails, use this order so each test answers one question:
- Is the dedicated server process running?
- Does
bEnabled=trueappear in the activeKFWeb.ini? - Does
http://127.0.0.1:<port>/WebAdmin/load on the server? - Does the LAN address work from another device on the same network?
- Is inbound TCP allowed through the host firewall?
- Does the router forward the selected public TCP port to the current private IP?
- Is the browser using the assigned/custom port and the
/WebAdmin/path? - Is an alternate password supplied by the launch command?
- Is another process already listening on the selected port?
Resolve the first failed test before moving to the next. This prevents a router change from masking a disabled service or a password-precedence problem.
