In Minecraft Java Edition, the most practical route is a version-compatible player-sizing datapack such as Player Size Changer. Bedrock’s official documentation describes a visual-size component for entities, but does not establish a built-in player-shrinking command or menu. The steps and available options therefore depend on your edition.
Java Edition: shrink with a player-sizing datapack
Player Size Changer is a third-party datapack with a size menu and five presets. Its project listing says the current pack works without cheats, but that claim applies to this project and release—not every datapack or server. Check the listing for a file compatible with the exact Minecraft version you are running before installing it: Player Size Changer on Modrinth.
- Confirm that you are playing Java Edition and note your Minecraft version.
- On the project page, choose a datapack file listed as compatible with that version. Compatibility can change as Minecraft updates.
- Install the datapack according to the project’s instructions for your world or server.
- Open the size menu from the pause screen and select a preset. The current listing recommends this menu; older versions also documented trigger commands.

These are presets offered by this datapack, not universal Minecraft settings. The project says that other attributes—including health, range and jump height—change with size, so the result is not purely cosmetic. Its listing documents /trigger 0.2x and /trigger 0.5x for older pack versions; use the instructions for the version you installed rather than assuming those commands still apply.
How Java resizing options differ
Datapacks do not all handle size the same way. Before choosing one, check its compatibility, controls, permission requirements and whether it changes gameplay attributes along with appearance.

For example, if you want a small character without separately configuring attributes, Player Size Changer offers a convenient preset-based route. If you want size tied to health or a configurable function, the other projects describe those controls. Check each project’s current file and instructions: a listed game version does not guarantee that every file or server setup will work identically.
Bedrock Edition: what the official size setting does—and does not prove
Microsoft Learn documents minecraft:scale as an entity component for visual size. It gives 1.0 as normal size, 0.5 as half size and 2.0 as double size. That is a creator-facing component reference, not evidence of a standard vanilla Bedrock command or menu that lets a player shrink their own character. If you want to resize a Bedrock player, look for an add-on, behavior pack, Marketplace world or server feature that explicitly supports player resizing in your version. The cited official reference does not verify a particular player-resizing option, so check the feature description and compatibility before relying on it.

Permission requirements depend on the datapack and where you play. Player Size Changer says its current pack works without cheats; Constant Size Change explicitly requires operator permissions. Other packs may have different requirements. On a multiplayer server, ask an administrator before installing or using a datapack, and follow the server’s rules. For a world you do not control, permission to run commands does not necessarily mean you can add datapacks.
