The Genesis Configuration locks in Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival are solved by matching two faces of the box to the glowing stone slot. For each face, choose the correct configuration, rotate the assembled shape until its point and side pieces line up with the relief, confirm it, and then repeat on the opposite face.
There are five required configurations: Sunny’s pillar, the Hand statue, the Head statue, the Tongue statue, and the Factory shrine. They appear in story order, and the statue locks cannot be used until you have recovered their matching statue pieces.

What the Genesis Configuration mechanic requires
Every Genesis Configuration puzzle has two separate faces. The game does not ask you to find one shape and leave it in place; each half of the box must be solved independently.

- Rotate the selected form. Turn the box or assembled shape so its lit point, corners, bridges, and side pieces occupy the same positions as the visible relief.
- Confirm the first face. Use the interaction prompt shown on your screen. The exact confirmation button can vary with platform or control settings.
- Turn to the second face. Repeat the shape selection and rotation process for the other side.
- Confirm the second face. When both sides fit, the lock opens and the story path continues.
On the control layout described by AllThings.How, L1 and R1 cycle configurations while the analog stick rotates the assembly. Treat those bindings as a guide rather than a universal rule: remapped controls, accessibility settings, and different platforms may change them. The on-screen prompts are authoritative.

The most common mistake is treating shape selection and rotation as the same action. A square can be the correct configuration but still be turned the wrong way, while a visually similar outline can be rotated perfectly and still fail because it is the wrong configuration. Solve those decisions in that order.
When each puzzle becomes available
The locks are sequential story gates rather than optional collectibles. This table gives the progression context needed to identify the puzzle you have reached.

If a gate does not react when you interact with it, check the prerequisite before trying different rotations. The Hand and Head gates specifically require their corresponding statue pieces; the configuration interface is not a substitute for those items.

Sunny’s pillar solution
You meet this lock in the labyrinth ruins while pursuing the “Free Sunny’s Soul” objective. It is the first named Genesis Configuration puzzle in the sequence.
First face: diamond-turned square
Choose the square configuration. Rotate it until the square stands on a corner, appearing as a diamond in the slot. Do not select a different angular outline simply because it has a similar footprint; the required form is the ordinary square viewed at that rotated angle.
Second face: inward-facing bridge structures
The opposite face uses two parallel, bridge-like structures. Place one on the left and one on the right, with the legs of both structures pointing toward the middle. The two pieces should read as a matched pair separated by a central gap, not as a single continuous bridge.

After the left and right structures are positioned with their legs inward, confirm this face. If one bridge appears mirrored, keep the configuration selected and rotate the assembly rather than cycling to another shape.

This lock becomes usable after you obtain the Hand statue piece from Bruno’s house. Return the piece to its matching gate; only then can the Genesis Configuration relief be aligned.
First face: stacked boulder shapes
Select the configuration made from two boulder-like forms. Each has a flat bottom and a curved top. Rotate the pair so the forms are parallel and stacked vertically, with one above the other. Their flat bases should face the same direction.
Second face: the same pair turned sideways
The second face uses that same two-boulder configuration, but its orientation changes by a quarter turn. Position one boulder on the left and the other on the right. The pair should now read horizontally rather than vertically, while preserving the same flat-bottom and curved-top geometry.
This is a deliberate reuse of the same outline. If the first face was accepted but the second will not fit, you probably have the right configuration in the wrong orientation, not the wrong configuration.

After the Hand statue route opens the next area, collect the Head statue piece. The Head statue gate is the following statue lock in the sequence.

First face: upright square
Use the plain square configuration and leave it upright. Unlike Sunny’s pillar and the first face of the Tongue and Factory puzzles, this square is not turned onto a corner. Its sides should run horizontally and vertically in the relief.
Second face: side-gap border with a central star
The opposite side is a border-like pattern with openings on two sides and a star-shaped opening in the middle. Rotate the configuration until the two gaps are on the left and right. The central star is a useful orientation check: it should remain centered while the open portions face outward horizontally.
Do not align the gaps top-to-bottom. That arrangement can look close when the relief is viewed at an angle, but it is not the required orientation.
Tongue statue solution
The Tongue statue lock follows the well puzzle in the Head statue area. Once you have obtained the Tongue statue piece, install it at the matching gate and inspect the two-face relief.
First face: diamond-turned square
This face repeats the square-on-a-corner arrangement used by Sunny’s pillar. Select the standard square and rotate it until it appears as a diamond. The reused pattern means you can identify the configuration quickly, but still match its point and side pieces to the slot before confirming.
Second face: four corner blocks
The second face is made of four separate corner blocks, each described as petal-like. Place one block in each corner of the relief, leaving the center open. The pieces should form a four-corner arrangement rather than a solid frame or a single connected shape.

When the four blocks are in their corner positions, confirm the face. If one petal seems to sit on an edge instead of in a corner, rotate the entire assembly; changing the configuration will remove the four-block pattern you need.
Factory shrine solution
The final listed lock is at the shrine inside the factory, near the elevator that leads to Marlowe and Bruno. Its two faces reuse patterns from earlier statue gates.
First face: the diamond square
Choose the ordinary square and rotate it onto a corner so it reads as a diamond. This is the same first-face pattern used by the Tongue statue, so the outline should be immediately familiar.
Second face: side-gap border
For the second face, select the border-like configuration with a central star-shaped opening and gaps in the border. Turn it so the gaps are on the left and right, matching the Head statue’s second face. The open sides must face horizontally; a top-and-bottom arrangement is incorrect.

Remembering repeated faces reduces the amount of trial and error:
- Diamond square: Sunny’s pillar uses it on its first face; the Tongue statue uses it on its first face; the Factory shrine uses it on its first face.
- Side-gap border with central star: the Head statue uses it on its second face; the Factory shrine uses it on its second face.
- Two boulders: the Hand statue uses the same configuration twice, changing from a vertical stack to a horizontal pair.
These are configuration and orientation matches, not interchangeable puzzle solutions. A repeated pattern still has to be confirmed on the correct face and aligned with that lock’s relief.

How to read the relief when a verbal description is unclear
Text labels such as “boulder,” “bridge,” or “petal” are useful for identifying a family of shapes, but the in-game cut-out is the final authority. Use the following checks:
- Match the number of distinct pieces before worrying about rotation.
- Look for the brightest point or lit tip and place that first.
- Use side pieces, legs, and gaps as orientation markers; they reveal a mirror-image error more reliably than the outer silhouette.
- Compare the empty spaces as carefully as the solid pieces. The Head and Factory border pattern is defined by its two side gaps and central star opening.
- Confirm only after the entire outline fits the relief. A shape that touches one edge but leaves another edge exposed is not aligned.
If a shape description seems ambiguous, do not guess from the puzzle’s name. Rotate the box slowly and compare the selected form with the visible slot. Reference screenshots in the published walkthroughs can help identify complex silhouettes, but the slot in your game remains the definitive alignment target.
Troubleshooting failed alignments
The game will not let you use the lock
Verify that you are at the correct story gate and have collected the required statue piece. The Hand statue gate needs the Hand piece from Bruno’s house, and the Head statue gate needs the Head piece reached through the Hand route. Without the item, changing the box configuration will not solve the progression block.

You likely selected the correct configuration but have not rotated it into the required orientation. Check the lit point, then compare the side pieces and empty spaces. For the diamond square, the square must stand on a corner. For the Head and Factory border, the gaps must be on the left and right.
The first face works but the second face does not
Each face has its own solution. Do not assume the second side repeats the first. Sunny’s pillar changes from a diamond square to inward-facing bridges; the Hand statue changes the boulder pair from vertical to horizontal; the Head, Tongue, and Factory puzzles each introduce a different second-face arrangement.
The controls do not match L1 and R1
Button assignments can differ by platform, controller layout, and accessibility remapping. Follow the labels shown beside the configuration and rotation actions on your screen. The important distinction is functional: one input cycles forms, another rotates the selected form, and a separate interaction confirms the face.
The shape appears mirrored
Keep the same configuration and rotate it through the available angles. Mirroring is especially easy to mistake for a wrong shape in the Hand statue’s boulder pair and the Head or Factory border. Use the direction of the legs, the position of the gaps, and the location of the central star to determine which side is correct.

Complete solution order
- Reach Sunny’s pillar in the labyrinth ruins during “Free Sunny’s Soul”: diamond square, then inward-facing bridge pair.
- At the Hand statue gate, after obtaining the Hand piece from Bruno’s house: stacked boulders, then the same pair positioned left and right.
- At the Head statue gate: upright square, then the side-gap border with its star opening centered and gaps left and right.
- At the Tongue statue gate after the well puzzle: diamond square, then four petal-like corner blocks.
- At the Factory shrine beside the elevator to Marlowe and Bruno: diamond square, then the side-gap border with horizontal gaps.
Once you separate configuration choice from rotation, every Genesis Configuration lock follows the same rhythm: identify the form, turn it to match the relief, confirm one face, and solve the other. The five locks differ in their shapes and story prerequisites, but none requires a hidden code or a different interaction system.
