Spoilers: The Shimizu Residence puzzle answers change with your ending route, including New Game+ routes. Check the route-specific solutions below before turning portraits or arranging dolls and plates.
What to collect before solving the residence puzzles
The residence has three versions. As you move between them, gather the items needed for the puzzles, then return to Residence I for the Ominous Photo and My Room door.

- Find the Picture Frame in Residence II. You need it to complete the Ominous Photo puzzle.
- Find the Block of Wax in Hinako’s room and the Propane Tube in Residence III. Melt the wax in the Residence I kitchen to get the Fletching Key.
- Use the Fletching Key on the bird-pattern door in Residence III. This is part of the Black Bird and Sword Plate sequence.
The route-specific answers below are drawn from Silent Hill Memories’ Shimizu Residence walkthrough, with the photo and scales answers also cross-referenced against its Silent Hill f puzzle solutions. These are walkthrough sources, not official Konami documentation.
Ominous Photo: turn the marked portraits upside down
Place the Picture Frame on the wall, then inspect the group photograph. Its crossed-out faces tell you which individual portraits to turn upside down. The portraits differ by route:
- Ending 1: Hinako’s portrait.
- New Game+ Ending 2: Hinako’s friends’ portraits.
- New Game+ Ending 3: Hinako’s parents’ portraits and Sakuko’s portrait.
- New Game++ Ending 4: every portrait except Hinako’s.
When the puzzle is solved, collect the White Bird and Fox Plates.
Scales: split the dolls according to your route
Balance all five dolls across the two dishes. The solution is a grouping, not a specified left-or-right placement: put the named doll or dolls on one side and the remaining dolls on the other.

Collect the plates from the Ominous Photo, Scales, and key sequence before attempting the bedroom door. The door itself has a Heavens plate; the Scales and Heavens plates each have a blank reverse. Use the positions shown below, with left, top, bottom, and right as the guide.
