Spoilers: Compare the numbered periodic table with the complete table, read the matching element symbols in numerical order, then follow the decoded instruction: push lever 9 up, followed by lever 3 up. The machine must be powered first; completing the sequence unlocks Blackbridge Grotto.
How the periodic-table clue works
The Laboratory has one complete periodic table and a second table marked with numbers. Match each numbered position to the element symbol in the same position on the complete table, then read those symbols in numerical order. This is a substitution-by-position clue: the numbers set the order, while the other table supplies the symbols.
The symbols spell PuSHThReEuPaFTeRnINe. Split into words, the message is “Push three up after nine.” The Grade 3 Classroom’s element-symbol exercise hints at this kind of wordplay: for instance, “ice” can be written as I + Ce.
Power the machine before using the levers
The decoded message gives the lever sequence, but the Laboratory machine needs power before it can be operated. The blue memo in the Laboratory points to power as the first step. GameSpot’s walkthrough describes two possible routes, depending on what is available in your run:

Push the levers in the decoded order
- After the machine is powered, push lever 9 up.
- Then push lever 3 up.
The cited walkthroughs report that this completes the Laboratory puzzle and unlocks Blackbridge Grotto.
