Batman: Arkham Knight tracks 243 Riddler challenges; its 10 Riddler Trials are a separate, sequential series. To finish the Riddler confrontation, complete both the trials and all 243 challenges.
Know what counts as a Riddler challenge
The hunt includes scan-based riddles, mechanical trophy puzzles, destructible objects, and bomb-rioter rescues. A guide breakdown lists 315 collectible objects across 243 challenges: 179 trophies, 40 riddles, six bomb rioters, and 90 breakable objects. Those 90 breakables count as 18 challenge completions, so the object total and challenge total are not interchangeable. Find locations and track what remains
- Interrogate Riddler informants. Their intel reveals Riddler challenge locations on the world map. PowerPyx’s collectible guide covers informants and locations.
- Work by district or interior. Use the map and progress display to identify where and what category to search next, rather than roaming without a target.
- Check the remaining count after each area. If the count is short but the outdoor map looks clear, search interiors and story locations, including Panessa Studios, the Stagg Airships, and Arkham Knight HQ. Gamepressure’s guide describes maps of the isles and interiors.
- Leave inaccessible puzzles for later. Some trophies require later story progress or advanced gadgets. Mark them mentally or on your own checklist and return when the relevant equipment and area are available. GamesRadar+’s area walkthrough notes these progression and gadget gates.
Use the right method for each puzzle
Scan riddles
Read the clue for a person, object, or place, find the matching subject in Gotham, then scan it. The clue may point to a story-related object rather than a conventional trophy: GamesRadar+ gives Barbara Gordon’s Batgirl suit and the Arkham mug in GCPD as examples.
Mechanical trophy puzzles
Look at the obstacle and identify the mechanism before choosing a gadget. Walkthrough examples use the Remote Hacking Device, Batmobile winch, Voice Synthesizer, Batclaw, and timed traversal. Some puzzles combine tools or require routing the Batmobile through a mechanism; follow a location-specific walkthrough if the sequence is unclear. Breakables and bomb-rioter rescues
These are distinct parts of the challenge set, not scan riddles or trophy mechanisms. Use the remaining category count to focus the search, and consult a location map when a breakable or rescue is difficult to spot.

The Trials are sequential rooms that unlock in order; they are not a substitute for collecting the 243 challenges. PowerPyx says the trials can be completed after the main story and explains their order in its Riddler’s Revenge walkthrough. The Orphanage and caves are among the trial locations described in Prima Games’ Riddler’s Revenge guide. Complete all 10 trials and all 243 challenges, then proceed to the final confrontation at GCPD.
