No spider item? Survive the fight
Choose nonviolent actions and focus on dodging rather than attacking. Muffet offers to spare after 17 turns. You can choose Pay to reduce each hit’s damage by one for that turn, as described in the battle mechanics reference.

Muffet’s fight uses purple SOUL mode, which restricts movement to a few horizontal strings. A spider on the right previews the next attack type and its density; watch it before moving. Attacks include spiders traveling along strings, returning croissants, bouncing donuts, and a pet-spider sequence. The battle reference says the pet sequence occurs at breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Optional bribe mechanic
Using Struggle three times halves the current bribe cost, according to the battle reference. This is separate from the 17-turn spare route: survival is still the fallback if you have no spider item.
Can you avoid the battle instead?
If you have not yet reached the Hotland Spider Bake Sale, buying either spider item there prevents the encounter on Neutral and True Pacifist routes. The listed price is 9999G for either item. The sale reference does not list this bypass for the Genocide route.
