The fastest way to create exactly 1,000 TNT blocks in both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition is to fill a 10×10×10 area:
/fill ~ ~ ~ ~9 ~9 ~9 minecraft:tnt
Both corners are included, so the command places 10 × 10 × 10 = 1,000 TNT blocks. It creates placed TNT—not already-primed TNT entities—so you must ignite it separately.

The command for 1,000 TNT
Open chat and enter:
/fill ~ ~ ~ ~9 ~9 ~9 minecraft:tnt
The ~ ~ ~ coordinates begin at the command executor’s current block. The second corner, ~9 ~9 ~9, is nine blocks farther along each axis. Since the starting and ending blocks count, the result is a 10-block-wide, 10-block-high, 10-block-deep cuboid.

Minecraft’s official /fill documentation describes the command as taking two corner coordinates and a block identifier.
#1 Best Overall
- Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures
- Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
- Play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs

Using fixed coordinates
To place the TNT in a particular location rather than around yourself, use two absolute corners. For example:
/fill 100 64 100 109 73 109 minecraft:tnt
This also fills exactly 1,000 blocks: coordinates 100–109 cover 10 positions, 64–73 cover 10 positions, and 100–109 cover another 10 positions.
Important: this does not detonate the TNT
/fill places TNT blocks in the world. It does not prime or ignite them. Activate the blocks afterward with redstone, fire, flint and steel, or another valid ignition method. Minecraft’s command guide explains the general command system, while the TNT reference covers TNT’s activation behavior.

Use an isolated test area and make a backup first. The default command replaces every block in the selected region, so it can destroy terrain, containers, builds, or other blocks.
Safer fill options
You can append a fill mode when you need to control what happens to the existing blocks:
/fill ~ ~ ~ ~9 ~9 ~9 minecraft:tnt replace
replace: replaces blocks throughout the region without dropping the replaced blocks.keep: places TNT only in air blocks, leaving other blocks intact.destroy: replaces blocks and causes their drops.holloworoutline: creates boundary-style shapes, not a solid 1,000-block TNT cube.
If the goal is exactly 1,000 placed TNT blocks, use the basic command or replace; do not use hollow or outline.

Java and Bedrock requirements
Bedrock Edition
In a single-player world, open Pause → Settings → Game, then enable Allow Cheats. Enabling cheats permanently disables achievements for that world, even if you later turn cheats off. In multiplayer or Realms, you need permission to use commands.
Bedrock accepts tnt as the block identifier in current command input. Using the namespaced form minecraft:tnt is also clear and works with the command shown above.
Java Edition
When creating a world, enable Allow Commands. For an existing single-player world, open the pause menu, choose Open to LAN, enable Allow Commands, and select Start LAN World. This permission lasts for the current session.

On a Java multiplayer server, you normally need operator permission or an equivalent command privilege.
Entering the command in chat or a command block
In chat, enter the command with its leading slash. You can also use a command block:

- Open it and enter the command in the Command Input field.
- Choose the block’s activation settings and power it as needed.
The command-block interface differs between Java and Bedrock, but the fill command itself remains the same. A command block is not necessary for this one-time operation.

Why /summon tnt 1000 is wrong
/summon summons an entity, and it has no quantity argument. For example:
/summon minecraft:tnt ~ ~ ~
That command summons one primed TNT entity per execution. A command such as /summon tnt 1000 does not mean “summon 1,000 TNT”; the value may be treated as positional input or make the command invalid. The official Bedrock /summon syntax is an entity type followed by optional position and other parameters, with no count field.
Repeating /summon 1,000 times is also unnecessary when /fill can place the entire 10×10×10 volume in one execution.
/give is different too
This command gives a player 1,000 TNT items:
/give @p minecraft:tnt 1000
It does not place 1,000 TNT blocks in the world and does not ignite them. Use /fill when you want the blocks placed automatically.
If the command fails
- “You do not have permission”: enable cheats or commands in single-player, or obtain the required multiplayer permission.
- Only part of the area fills: check that the target region is loaded and within the world’s legal build and coordinate limits.
- Nothing appears where expected: verify your coordinates and remember that relative coordinates use the command executor’s position.
- Your build was replaced: the normal fill behavior overwrites blocks. Use
keepwhen TNT should occupy air only, and confirm the coordinates before running the command. - The command is blocked on a server: server protections, plugins, or command restrictions may prevent
/filleven when you can use some commands.
For the official syntax and edition-specific details, see Minecraft’s command guide and Microsoft’s Bedrock fill documentation.
