Run wsreset.exe only when Microsoft Store itself appears stuck. This sequence can separate a local app problem from a Store, update, or network problem, but no official source provides a guaranteed loading-time improvement or success rate.
1. Establish what is actually slow
“The Xbox app is slow” can describe several different symptoms. Before changing anything, note where the delay occurs and whether it is repeatable after a restart. This prevents a Store or network problem from being treated as an app-data problem.

These observations do not identify a cause by themselves. They simply tell you which branch to test first and give you a before-and-after comparison for each change.

2. Restart Windows before changing app data
Restart Windows normally, then open the Xbox app again. A restart is especially worthwhile when the computer has been running for a long time or Windows has a pending update. It clears the current session and lets pending system work complete without immediately deleting app data.

After the restart, repeat the same action that was slow: launch the app, open the page that stalled, or open Microsoft Store Library. If the behavior is unchanged, continue to the connection check rather than repeatedly restarting.
3. Check whether the connection is the bottleneck
Xbox pages and account-related content need a working internet connection. Compare the Xbox app with another online service on the same PC. If several services are slow or intermittently unavailable, the network deserves attention before you alter the app.
Compare a different connection when possible
If you have access to a wired connection, use it temporarily as a diagnostic comparison. The purpose is to determine whether the Xbox app behaves differently on a more stable link, not to promise that changing cables will repair an app defect. If the app is equally slow on both connections while other services work normally, a local app, Store, or update issue becomes more plausible.

A faster or wired connection cannot correct every cause of slow loading. It may only show that wireless instability contributes to the symptom. Keep the result of the comparison: “faster on wired,” “unchanged,” or “could not test.” That result determines whether further network troubleshooting is justified.

4. Update the Xbox app and Windows
Install available updates before attempting a reset. Microsoft documents updating the Xbox app for PC through Microsoft Store transaction troubleshooting, and Windows Update can deliver updates for Store apps. Updating first avoids troubleshooting an older app build when a current package is already available.
Update the Xbox app through Microsoft Store Library
- Open Microsoft Store.
- Open Library.
- Check for available updates and install the Xbox app update if one is offered.
- Wait for the update to finish, then launch the Xbox app again.
If Store Library cannot load or update, do not conclude that the Xbox app itself is broken. Follow the Store-specific recovery in the wsreset.exe section below, then return to Library.
Install pending Windows updates
Open Windows Update in Settings and install the updates offered for the PC. Restart when Windows requests it, then test the same Xbox-app action again. Keep the Windows version in your notes because the Settings labels differ between Windows 10 and Windows 11.

5. Use Repair before Reset
Windows may expose app-level recovery controls under an app’s Advanced options. Microsoft’s guidance places Repair before Reset. Not every app exposes these controls; if the Xbox app has no Advanced options or no Repair button, skip to the next applicable step rather than searching for an unofficial substitute.

Windows 11 path
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Find the Xbox app and open its additional options menu.
- Select Advanced options.
- Choose Repair if it is offered.
- After Windows finishes, open the Xbox app and repeat the slow action.
Windows 10 path
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Apps & features.
- Select the Xbox app and open Advanced options.
- Choose Repair if the control is available.
- Test the app again after the operation completes.
The Repair control is the least disruptive app-level option in this sequence. Windows does not expose it for every app, so its absence is not evidence that your installation is damaged.
When to use Reset
If Repair is unavailable or does not resolve the loading problem, return to the same Advanced options page and consider Reset. Reset is a later recovery step because it can reset an app’s local data or settings. The available Microsoft guidance does not specify the exact consequences for Xbox-app data, so record any settings you may need before selecting it and expect that local app state could change.
After Reset completes, test the app once under the same conditions as before. Do not run Reset repeatedly; repeated resets do not provide a measured speed benefit and make it harder to tell which change affected the result.
6. Repair Microsoft Store with wsreset.exe when Store is the failing component
wsreset.exe is a Microsoft Store remedy, not a universal Xbox-app speed command. Use it when Microsoft Store is stuck, will not open correctly, or cannot refresh its Library.

- Press Win + R to open the Run dialog.
- Enter
wsreset.exe. - Press Enter.
- Wait while a blank command window opens and then closes. Microsoft says this takes about ten seconds.
- Microsoft Store should open after the command window closes. Return to Library, install available Xbox-app updates, and test the app.
If Store opens normally and Library works, but the Xbox app remains slow, wsreset.exe has already served its diagnostic purpose. It is not evidence that the Xbox app itself has been repaired, and running it again is unlikely to add information.
7. Choose the next branch from the result
Use the result of each controlled test to decide what to do next rather than applying every possible fix at once.

8. What not to change without documented support
Microsoft identifies Configuration Service as a service used by apps including the Xbox app. That relationship does not establish that restarting, reinstalling, disabling, or changing the service is a supported solution for slow loading.
For the same reason, do not treat Gaming Services manipulation, registry edits, deleting system folders, or downloading third-party “repair” utilities as confirmed fixes for this symptom. The documented sequence here does not validate those actions. They can introduce new problems while making it harder to identify whether the original delay was caused by Windows, Store, the network, or the app.

9. Keep the diagnosis reproducible
Slow loading is easier to troubleshoot when each test changes one variable. Before the first step, note the Windows edition (10 or 11), whether Microsoft Store opens, whether other online services are responsive, and the exact Xbox-app screen that stalls. After each step, repeat that same action.
- Write down whether the app opens, reaches its home screen, and loads the previously slow page.
- Record whether the test used Wi-Fi or a wired connection.
- Note whether Microsoft Store Library could display and install updates.
- Mark whether Repair and Reset were available; some apps do not expose those controls.
- Record the result of
wsreset.exeonly if Store was malfunctioning.
This log does not create a loading-time benchmark; no official material in scope supplies a measured improvement, success percentage, or guaranteed time saved. It does give you a precise account of what changed and prevents repeating disruptive steps without evidence.
10. A compact safe order to follow
For a practical run-through, use this order and stop when the symptom is resolved:

- Restart Windows.
- Compare the connection with another stable option if network instability is plausible.
- Open Microsoft Store Library and install the Xbox-app update, then install pending Windows updates.
- Use the Xbox app’s Advanced options and select Repair when available.
- If Repair is unavailable or ineffective, consider Reset while allowing for local app data or settings to be reset.
- Use
Win + R,wsreset.exe, and Enter only when Microsoft Store itself is stuck; then return to Library. - If the delay remains, preserve your notes and avoid unsupported Configuration Service, Gaming Services, registry, or third-party utility changes.
