Run /gamerule mobGriefing false in the world to stop creepers from destroying blocks. This is a global mob-griefing setting, not a creeper-only switch: it can also change other mobs’ block interactions.
Turn off mob griefing
- Open the world where you have permission to run commands.
- Enter
/gamerule mobGriefing falseand submit it. The command is documented for both Java and Bedrock editions; Minecraft Wiki’s gamerule command reference describes it as stopping creepers, ghasts and other mobs from modifying blocks.
Microsoft’s Bedrock command documentation says mobgriefing controls whether mob griefing can occur and gives a creeper explosion destroying blocks as an example. It lists Game Directors permission and says cheats are not required for /gamerule; you still need command authority in the world or on the server. See Microsoft Learn’s Bedrock gamerule documentation.

What changes when the rule is off?
The rule applies to mob griefing generally, so turning it off affects more than creeper explosions. Consider whether your world relies on other mobs changing blocks before using it. The command is useful when you want to prevent mob-caused block damage without configuring individual creepers, but its scope is broader than that.
Can you stop creeper block damage only?
The cited command references establish the global gamerule, not a built-in creeper-only setting that prevents block damage while preserving other mob interactions. A separate rule for creeper block damage was proposed in a Minecraft Feedback post published May 1, 2022; that post is a feature request, not evidence that the option shipped. The request can be viewed at Minecraft Feedback.

If you need selective behavior, it would require a customization suited to your specific edition and setup. The sources here do not verify a current mod or datapack that provides the same selective control across editions, so do not assume a custom command applies to your version.
