The fastest way to stop a particular game from appearing in Steam recommendations is to select Ignore on that game’s store page, in a recommendation, or in the Discovery Queue. Valve says an ignored product is removed from future recommendations and featured spots.
If the problem is broader—such as a genre, theme, or recurring type of game—use Steam’s tag exclusions and Discovery Queue preferences where those controls are available. Do not substitute Library hiding or the Private setting: Hide organizes your own Library, while Private controls what other people can see about your ownership and activity.

Choose the Steam control that matches the problem
Steam has several settings that look similar because they all reduce visibility somewhere in the client. They do different jobs. Start by identifying whether you want to filter one store product, a category of products, games you already own, or information visible to other users.
Recommended Free Tools
| Control | Scope | Where it applies | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ignore | One product at a time | Store recommendations, including products shown in the Discovery Queue | Exclude an unwanted product from future recommendations and featured spots |
| Tag exclusions | A category or theme | Store discovery controls where Steam applies the exclusions | Reduce recommendations carrying tags you do not want |
| Discovery Queue preferences | Your Discovery Queue and its filters | Discovery Queue | Adjust the kinds of products presented while browsing the queue |
| Hide in Library | A game you own | Your Steam Library in the client | Keep an owned game out of your normal Library view |
| Private | Ownership and activity information | Places where other Steam users could otherwise see that information | Limit what other people can see; it is not a recommendation filter |
The first three are discovery controls. The last two are personal organization and privacy controls. Hiding or making a game private does not replace selecting Ignore on its store product.

How to ignore one unwanted game
Use Ignore when a particular title keeps appearing, regardless of whether you own it. Valve’s Steam Discovery documentation describes Ignore as the control for a product you are not interested in and says ignored products are excluded from future recommendations and featured spots.
From the store page
- Open the game’s Steam store page.
- Find the product’s recommendation or discovery controls and choose Ignore.
- Leave the product marked ignored. Steam uses that status when deciding whether to show the product in applicable recommendation and featured areas.
The exact placement of the control can change as Steam’s store interface changes. The important action is choosing Ignore for the product itself, not hiding a shortcut elsewhere in your client.
From a recommendation
- When the unwanted game appears in a Steam recommendation, open the controls associated with that recommendation.
- Select Ignore for the title.
- Continue browsing; the ignored product should no longer be selected for future recommendations in the areas covered by Steam’s discovery system.
Valve’s Recommendation Feed instructions also direct users to click Ignore on an unwanted title. You can therefore act at the moment you see the recommendation instead of opening a separate settings page.

From the Discovery Queue
- Open the Discovery Queue and advance until the unwanted product appears.
- Use the product controls and select Ignore.
- Finish or leave the queue as you prefer. The product is treated as ignored for future discovery recommendations covered by Steam’s system.
Valve specifically includes products in the Discovery Queue among the products that can be marked ignored. If the game later appears in a different kind of storefront panel, that does not necessarily mean the Ignore action failed; Steam has several discovery surfaces and not all are documented as identical.
How to reduce recommendations from a genre or theme
Ignoring individual titles works well for isolated annoyances. It is inefficient when Steam repeatedly suggests a whole category—for example, a type of game, setting, or gameplay theme that you already know you do not want. In that case, use tag exclusions and the Discovery Queue’s preferences.

Use tag exclusions
Steam’s discovery controls can exclude products associated with tags you do not want to browse. Open the relevant store-discovery preferences, locate the tag-exclusion controls, and add the unwanted tags. Save or apply the setting if Steam presents an explicit confirmation.
Tag filtering is broader than ignoring one title: it can reduce the number of games carrying that tag in discovery results. It is not a promise that every Steam page, recommendation module, or manually curated list will obey the same filter. Steam’s documentation describes tag exclusions as store discovery controls, so treat them as a way to shape applicable discovery areas rather than as a universal block across the entire storefront.

Adjust Discovery Queue preferences
The Discovery Queue has its own preference controls. Open the queue’s preferences or customization area, review the available filters, and use the options for tags and ignored products to narrow what the queue presents.
Use the queue settings together with Ignore when necessary. A tag exclusion addresses a recurring category; Ignore handles a specific product that remains undesirable even after broader filtering. Steam can change menu names or the location of these controls, so follow the labels shown in your current client rather than an old screenshot.
When category filtering is not enough
Tags are assigned to products, and a game may have several tags—or lack the particular tag you expected. If a title still appears and it is individually unwanted, mark that title Ignore as well. This gives you a product-level decision in addition to the broader category preference.

Why Library Hide does not stop store recommendations
Steam’s Library hide option is for games you already own and do not want displayed in your normal client Library. It changes your personal Library view. It is not the documented Ignore action for a store product.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhat Hide does
Hiding is useful for organizing a large collection, removing a game from the everyday Library list without uninstalling or deleting your ownership record. Steam Support also documents how to view hidden games and remove the hidden status later, so hiding is reversible as an organizational choice.
What Hide does not establish
Steam’s support documentation distinguishes a hidden Library game from an ignored store product. It does not say that hiding a game changes the signals used for store recommendations. If the same title appears in a store recommendation, use Ignore on the store product rather than assuming the Library action covers it.
Why Private is not a recommendation setting
The Private setting addresses visibility to other people. It can hide ownership and activity for a game in the places where Steam would otherwise show that information to other users. Steam Support contrasts private games with games hidden in your Library because they solve different problems.
- Choose Private when your concern is what friends or other users can see about your ownership or activity.
- Choose Hide in Library when your concern is keeping an owned game out of your own normal Library view.
- Choose Ignore when your concern is a game Steam recommends in the store or Discovery Queue.
Making a game private does not tell Steam that you dislike it, and Steam’s support guidance does not state that privacy changes recommendation signals.

What Ignore can and cannot guarantee
Valve describes Ignore as excluding the marked product from future recommendations and featured spots. That is the clearest documented result, but it should not be read as a guarantee that every Steam surface will be cleared of anything related to the game.
Steam has more than one discovery mechanism
Valve describes the Interactive Recommender as an additional system that uses play patterns. It is separate from the basic act of marking a single product ignored. Steam also has the Discovery Queue, recommendation feeds, featured areas, and other storefront displays. Their behavior and coverage can differ.
Recommendations are not a complete catalog block
Ignore is a recommendation preference, not a universal content blocker. A product may still be reachable if you search for it directly, open a link to its store page, encounter a community post about it, or see related products in a surface that does not use the same discovery controls. The documented promise is about future recommendations and featured spots, not removal from every Steam page.
New releases have a special limitation
Valve says the Interactive Recommender cannot recommend new releases that nobody has played yet. That limitation explains why recommendation behavior can vary for brand-new games: a system based on play patterns has no play-pattern data for a title that has not been played. It does not change the correct action for a game you personally do not want to see—use Ignore when the product is available in a recommendation or queue.
Troubleshooting common cases
The game is still visible after I hid it
Check which surface you are looking at. If the title is in your Library, Hide may be the appropriate organization setting. If it is in a store recommendation or the Discovery Queue, return to that product and select Ignore. These settings have different scopes, so seeing a game in one surface does not prove that the other setting failed.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.

Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
I made the game private, but Steam still recommends it
Private controls what other users can see about your ownership and activity. It is not a store recommendation filter. Use Ignore for the product and, if the issue is broader, adjust tag exclusions or Discovery Queue preferences.
A whole genre keeps appearing
Individual Ignore actions will eventually cover the titles you have seen, but they do not express a category-level preference. Add the relevant tags to Steam’s tag exclusions and review Discovery Queue preferences. Because tags and storefront surfaces are not identical, continue to Ignore specific titles that remain unwanted.
The Ignore control is not where an old guide says it is
Steam can change its interface. Look for the product’s discovery controls on the current store page, recommendation, or Discovery Queue entry. Do not rely on a Library context menu or a privacy menu to perform the same action; those controls have different purposes.
I only want to remove one game from my Library
Use Hide in Library. You do not need to mark the game private unless you also want to limit what other users can see about your ownership or activity. If the game is also appearing in store recommendations, apply Ignore separately.
A practical setup for a cleaner Steam experience
- Deal with obvious individual titles first. Select Ignore directly on every game you know you do not want recommended.
- Look for a common category. If several unwanted games share a tag or theme, add the relevant tags to the store discovery exclusions.
- Tune the Discovery Queue. Review its preferences so the queue is not repeatedly presenting categories you have already ruled out.
- Organize your owned collection separately. Hide games that clutter your Library, but do not expect that action to alter store recommendations.
- Set privacy separately. Use Private only when the issue is visibility of ownership or activity to other users.
- Recheck the surface before changing settings again. A recommendation feed, Discovery Queue, featured area, and Library are not interchangeable. Apply the control designed for the place where the unwanted game appears.
Bottom line on Steam recommendation controls
For one unwanted game, select Ignore on its store page, recommendation, or Discovery Queue entry. For repeated categories, combine tag exclusions with Discovery Queue preferences. Use Library Hide to organize games you own and Private to limit what other users can see. Those distinctions give you the strongest documented way to reduce unwanted Steam suggestions without mistaking an organizational or privacy setting for a recommendation filter.
