To calm angry zombie pigmen—now called zombified piglins in Minecraft—stop attacking and get out of sight. Stay hidden from every angry piglin until its anger expires; if even one can still see you, it may keep the hostility going or spread it to others.
How to make angry zombified piglins calm down
- Stop attacking. Further attacks can keep the encounter going.
- Break line of sight. Put a solid block or other obstruction between you and the angry group, or retreat somewhere they cannot see you.
- Stay hidden. Do not reappear while an angered zombified piglin can see you. Mojang’s Java Edition Nether Release notes say the anger ends when none of the angered piglins see a player for a while.
The official notes do not give an exact waiting period. The secondary Minecraft Wiki combat guide reports hostility durations of 20–55 seconds in Java Edition and 25 seconds in Bedrock Edition, with the timer ticking only while the player is unseen. Treat these as reference timings, not guarantees for every game version or server.
Why more piglins may become angry
Anger can spread to nearby zombified piglins while they see their target. Hiding from only the first attacker may not be enough: other angry piglins that still have line of sight can continue the threat. Wait until the whole group is out of sight before returning.
Can dying or gamerules change the outcome?
Death and forgiveDeadPlayers
Mojang’s notes say an angered zombified piglin can stop being angry when its target dies nearby, unless the forgiveDeadPlayers gamerule is disabled. Death is not a dependable tactic: other angry piglins may still see you and renew the danger.

universalAnger
With universalAnger behavior enabled, an angered neutral mob may target the nearest player, including someone who did not provoke it. That can make another player nearby appear to draw the group’s attention. Mojang describes these mechanics in its 2020 Java Edition Nether Release notes; the announcement also summarizes the anger update in Nether Update out today on Java.
