How do I stream a looping video on YouTube Live?
YouTube Live receives the prerecorded video through an encoder such as OBS; it does not simply turn a video file into a live broadcast on its own. The basic workflow is to prepare the channel and live event, configure OBS to repeat the video, connect OBS to YouTube with the stream key, check the preview, and start streaming.
1. Check that the channel can go live
YouTube’s current eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and be operated by someone at least 16 years old. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable live streaming well before the planned session. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
2. Create or schedule an encoder stream
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room.
- Create a live stream or schedule one, choosing the encoder workflow.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the event. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel.
YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain how to create the stream and connect an encoder. Keep the Live Control Room open so you can check the incoming feed before taking the event live.

3. Add the video in OBS and enable Loop
- In OBS, create or select the scene you want to use.
- In the Sources panel, select + and choose Media Source.
- Name the source, select the local video file, and turn on Loop.
- Confirm the source is visible in the preview and fits the intended frame. Resize or crop it in OBS if necessary.
OBS describes Loop as replaying the file after playback completes. See the OBS Media Sources guide for the source’s properties.
4. Connect OBS to YouTube
In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service if it is available in your OBS version, and enter the stream key. If using a custom service configuration, use the stream URL and key supplied by YouTube. Do not share or publish the key. YouTube recommends RTMPS for the standard encoder workflow; HLS is an alternative for supported workflows and codecs, but YouTube notes that it has higher latency.

5. Preview, start, and monitor
- Start streaming from OBS and wait for the incoming feed to appear in the Live Control Room.
- Check that the picture is framed correctly and the Malayalam narration and any music are audible at a comfortable level.
- Listen through the transition at the end of the file to catch an abrupt cutoff, silence, or other unwanted change before the loop restarts.
- When the preview and stream health look acceptable, start the event in YouTube Studio if the event requires that separate action.
- Monitor stream-health notices and audio/video quality during the broadcast.
YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the planned stream. Its live-streaming tips also recommend leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom rather than running the connection at its full measured capacity.
How do I loop a video in OBS?
For one file, use Media Source with Loop enabled. For several files played in sequence, use OBS’s VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist; VLC must be installed for that source type to be available.

Use the single-file method for a continuous yoga nidra session. A playlist can provide variation, but check that each file is suitable for the same broadcast and that transitions between files do not introduce unintended gaps or abrupt changes.
Which YouTube and OBS stream settings matter?
Choose settings that your upload connection and computer can sustain; there is no special YouTube setting for Malayalam-language streams in the available platform guidance. For an ordinary prerecorded session, begin with YouTube’s encoder recommendations and check the current resolution and bitrate table in YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance.

- Protocol: YouTube recommends RTMPS for the standard encoder workflow. Use HLS only when your supported workflow or codec calls for it, bearing in mind YouTube’s higher-latency note.
- Rate control: YouTube documents CBR for encoder output.
- Keyframes: YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds.
- Resolution and bitrate: Match the chosen output resolution to the current YouTube recommendation table and to what your upload connection can sustain. Do not select a higher output merely because the source file has a higher resolution.
- Upload headroom: YouTube’s streaming tips recommend keeping 20% of upload bandwidth unused. A speed test is only a snapshot; stability during the actual broadcast matters too.
Encoder guidance can change. Confirm the table and settings in YouTube Help when configuring a new stream rather than relying on an old preset.

Use only narration, music, imagery, and other material that you own or have permission to use for both the live broadcast and any replay you keep. A license for personal listening, a social post, or a different territory does not automatically grant live-stream and archive rights everywhere.

YouTube says live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. A match can trigger a warning or placeholder and may interrupt or terminate the stream. Even licensed third-party material can be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. After a stream ends, Content ID claims may also apply to its archive. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and confirm the license covers the intended territories and replay use.
Does looping a session qualify the channel for monetization?
No. The ability to loop a file is a technical feature, not a guarantee of monetization eligibility. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to live streams and can exclude highly repetitive or mass-produced content with little variation or educational or other value. Make the yoga nidra session original and useful to viewers, and do not assume that repeating it will meet monetization requirements. YouTube’s policy page notes a July 15, 2025 clarification and the renaming of “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content.” Review the current YouTube channel monetization policies.
End the broadcast and check its archive
When the session is finished, stop streaming from OBS and end the event in YouTube Studio if prompted. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Review the replay for audio, picture, loop transitions, and any copyright claims before sharing it as an on-demand video. For longer broadcasts, do not assume an archive will be created automatically.
Common problems and fixes
- The stream key is rejected or no feed appears: Check that OBS is using the key and stream URL for the intended event, that the key was copied completely, and that live streaming is enabled on the channel. Regenerate or replace a key in YouTube Studio if you suspect it was exposed.
- The event is not available to start: Check channel eligibility and restrictions. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours for it to take effect.
- The file stops instead of repeating: Reopen the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is on. For a multi-file playlist, use VLC Video, enable Loop Playlist, and confirm VLC is installed.
- Viewers report buffering or YouTube shows poor stream health: Reduce output bitrate or resolution to a level the connection can sustain, and leave the recommended 20% upload headroom. Check for other devices or applications using upload bandwidth.
- Audio is silent, clipped, or cuts at the loop point: Check OBS audio meters and source settings, then listen to the file’s ending and beginning in the preview. Adjust the source or edit the file if its transition is unsuitable.
- A copyright warning appears or the stream is interrupted: Remove or replace the matched material, or resolve the rights issue with the relevant rights owner. A license alone may not prevent interruption if the channel has not been allowlisted.
