To stream a Tamil video playlist to YouTube Live with FFmpeg, put compatible files in a concat playlist, pass that playlist to FFmpeg at real-time speed, and send the encoded output to the RTMPS address and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room. Use streamcopy only when the files’ streams match and YouTube accepts their codecs; otherwise normalize or re-encode them. Test the preview and stream health before making the event public.
1. Prepare and check the Tamil videos
FFmpeg’s concat demuxer can join files in a defined order, but it is not a universal playlist converter. The inputs need matching streams, codecs, and time bases for reliable concatenation. Files with different layouts may fail or produce bad transitions, so inspect the source files before deciding whether to copy or re-encode them. The FFmpeg concat demuxer documentation describes these compatibility requirements.
- Keep the files in one folder for a straightforward relative-path playlist, or use paths that resolve from the directory where you run FFmpeg.
- Check that each file has the expected video and audio streams, and note its codec, dimensions, frame rate, time base, and audio layout.
- Confirm you have the rights and permissions for every video and audio track. Tamil-language material is subject to the same copyright rules as other content.
2. Create the concat playlist in the intended order
Create a plain-text file named playlist.txt alongside the videos. Put one file directive per video, in playback order:
ffconcat version 1.0
file 'video-01.mp4'
file 'video-02.mp4'
file 'video-03.mp4'
Use valid paths relative to FFmpeg’s working directory, or full paths. Spaces and special characters in paths may need escaping or quoting; see the concat demuxer path and syntax notes. The demuxer adjusts timestamps so the first input begins at zero and later inputs follow it. Unequal stream lengths can create gaps, and inaccurate or truncated duration metadata can cause artifacts.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
3. Choose streamcopy or re-encoding
Use streamcopy when the inputs are compatible
If the files have matching stream layouts and time bases, and YouTube accepts their codecs, -c copy can pass the streams through without decoding and re-encoding. This is fast and avoids another lossy encode. It cannot apply filters, and it will not resolve incompatible inputs or a codec YouTube cannot use.
Normalize files that differ
If clips vary in codec, dimensions, frame rate, time base, or audio layout, convert them to a common target before concatenating, or use an FFmpeg workflow that decodes and re-encodes the combined output. Re-encoding takes more CPU and can reduce quality, but it gives you control over the output format. FFmpeg’s documentation explains that transcoding is appropriate when filters are needed or the destination cannot decode the original codec. Choose the target from YouTube’s current encoder settings and your upload capacity rather than assuming one setting fits every playlist.

4. Create the YouTube Live destination and protect its key
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream.
- Open Stream settings, reveal the RTMPS URL, and copy it along with the stream key. YouTube’s RTMPS instructions show where to find these values.
- Use the RTMPS address for secure transport. Depending on how the destination is accepted, the stream name or key may need to follow the URL in the form
STREAM_URL/STREAM_NAME; the YouTube Live Streaming API documentation describes the stream resource and ingestion details. - Keep the actual key private. Do not put it in a public script, screenshot, or shared log. Use a placeholder in examples and restrict access to any script that contains the real key.
5. Start a real-time FFmpeg stream
For a compatible playlist using streamcopy, a basic command is:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -f concat -safe 0 -i playlist.txt -c copy -f flv "RTMPS_URL/STREAM_KEY"
Replace RTMPS_URL/STREAM_KEY with the destination details from Live Control Room, and do not publish the actual key. -re reads the prerecorded input at its native frame rate rather than sending it as fast as possible; -stream_loop -1 requests an infinite loop. Put input options before the relevant -i. FFmpeg documents these options in its command-line manual. They control input pacing and looping; they do not guarantee a stable broadcast, so test using your actual files and FFmpeg build.

The example uses streamcopy and is only suitable when the playlist’s streams are compatible and acceptable to YouTube. If you need to re-encode, replace -c copy with settings for the chosen video and audio encoders, bitrate, frame rate, and keyframe interval. For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube currently lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, and up to 60 fps. Its encoder guidance recommends constant bitrate and a two-second keyframe frequency, not exceeding four seconds. For H.264, the current page recommends 5 Mbps at 1080p30 and 3 Mbps at 720p30; those are specific resolution-and-frame-rate recommendations, not universal bitrates. Check the live YouTube encoder settings for your codec and output, and allow reliable upload capacity above the stream’s bitrate.
6. Test, monitor, and then make the event public
Start the encoder with a representative section of the playlist and check the YouTube preview before sharing the event. Include moving video and audio in the test. Watch YouTube’s stream-health messages and confirm that the picture, sound, pacing, and transitions remain acceptable. YouTube advises creators to test before going live in its encoder settings guidance.

- Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health while the content plays.
- Verify the opening, transitions, audio levels, and loop point before promoting the stream.
- Start or make the scheduled event public only after the test looks and sounds right.
7. Troubleshoot common failures
Playlist parsing fails or clips break at transitions
Check the playlist filename, working directory, path quoting, and escaping. Confirm each input has the same streams, codecs, and time bases. If transitions show gaps or artifacts, inspect duration metadata and normalize or re-encode files that do not match. Refer to the concat demuxer documentation.
FFmpeg cannot connect or reports a TLS/SSL error
Confirm you copied the RTMPS URL from Live Control Room rather than the ordinary RTMP endpoint, and verify that your FFmpeg build supports RTMPS. If the address is correct but an SSL error persists, YouTube’s RTMPS guidance suggests trying port 443.

The preview is blank, poor, or unstable
Check that the source codec and output settings are supported, then test again with representative media. Compare the stream bitrate with reliable upload capacity and monitor YouTube’s stream-health messages. Use YouTube’s encoder settings for the selected resolution, codec, and frame rate.
The stream is interrupted for content
Review YouTube Studio for a copyright or Community Guidelines strike and verify permissions for all third-party video and audio. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may interrupt or terminate a stream; consult its live copyright guidance.
8. Rights apply to every video and track
Only stream material you created or are authorized to broadcast, including music, background audio, and any embedded footage. YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party content, including another live broadcast, and a stream may be interrupted or terminated for copyright or Community Guidelines issues. See YouTube’s live copyright guidance.
