Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →You can broadcast speedrun VODs as a continuous YouTube live channel, but YouTube’s playlist loop button does not do it. A live channel needs a feed that plays the videos in sequence and an encoder that sends that feed to a live event created in YouTube Studio. You also need permission for every video and every included audio or visual element.
Why looping a YouTube playlist is not a live stream
YouTube’s playlist loop control repeats videos for ordinary playback. It does not create a live broadcast. YouTube Live’s encoder workflow is separate: you create a live stream in Studio, then send it a feed using the stream URL and stream key.
For a continuous speedrun channel, the basic signal path is: authorized VOD files are selected and sequenced, a player or other playback setup plays them into an encoder, and the encoder sends the resulting feed to YouTube Live. The VODs may be recordings of past runs, but viewers receive them as part of a live event.
What you need before setting it up
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days.
- VODs and other included material that you have the necessary rights to rebroadcast.
- A playback method that can present the videos in the intended order, plus an encoder that can send its output to YouTube Live. YouTube’s help material describes the encoder workflow, but does not establish a specific supported tool for automatically turning a YouTube playlist into an encoder feed.
- A stable upload connection with enough capacity for the encoder’s total stream bitrate and headroom for normal variation.
Set up the live event in YouTube Studio
- Check channel eligibility. Confirm that live streaming is available for your channel before building the rest of the workflow. Restrictions can prevent a planned broadcast from starting.
- Create or schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one. Choose the title, visibility, and other event settings for the channel.
- Review the event options. Studio provides settings including privacy, DVR, auto-start, and auto-stop. DVR lets viewers pause and resume the live event. Decide whether these controls suit the way you want viewers to watch; do not assume the default choices are right for a continuous channel.
- Get the encoder details. Copy the server or stream URL and stream key shown for the event into your encoder. Treat the stream key as a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not publish it in a video, chat, or public configuration file.
- Configure the playback and encoder chain. Arrange the authorized VODs in the desired order and route playback into the encoder. YouTube supports software encoders; its help describes hardware encoders as an option for higher-production events, not a requirement for this use. The exact playlist automation and playback setup depends on the tool you choose, so verify that tool’s current documentation, YouTube compatibility, and terms before relying on it.
- Match encoder settings to your connection. Choose protocol, codec, frame rate, resolution, and bitrate using YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance and the actual capacity of your upload connection. Do not select a high bitrate simply because the source VOD is high resolution: the live feed must be sustained by your available upload bandwidth.
- Start the feed and inspect the preview. Start sending from the encoder, then confirm the event preview appears in Live Control Room before making the event public or announcing it. Check that video is moving and audio is present and at an appropriate level.
- Monitor the event while it runs. Watch stream health and check playback on the watch page or channel page and on a mobile device. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring, and recommends upload capacity with 20% headroom over the total stream bitrate.
- End the event deliberately. Stop the encoder feed and end the live event when you intend to finish. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that archive behavior is not a guarantee of indefinite channel uptime.
Rights and YouTube policy matter for every VOD
A VOD being publicly viewable or already present in a YouTube playlist does not, by itself, establish permission to rebroadcast it in a continuous live feed. A speedrun recording may include game footage, music, overlays, commentary, and third-party assets. Check the rights and applicable terms for the actual material and intended territories before broadcasting.

YouTube’s live-stream terms state that live content must comply with the Community Guidelines and place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights for exploitation of the live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights. YouTube also says playlists that violate Community Guidelines are not allowed, including cases where the collection violates policy when considered together. Review the whole feed, not just each VOD in isolation.
Reliability checks before you leave it running
- Run a private or otherwise limited test first, and confirm the encoder connects to the intended event.
- Check the preview, audio, image, and stream health before treating the setup as ready.
- Leave the recommended 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the total stream bitrate.
- Test the viewing experience from the watch or channel page and on mobile.
- Confirm how your chosen sequencing setup handles an unavailable, removed, or private source video, and what happens after playback ends. Do not assume a playlist automation tool can recover or continue without checking its documentation.
- Keep the stream key private and know how to replace it if it is exposed.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you have authorized speedrun VOD files ready, StreamNeo offers a cloud option for keeping a YouTube channel live without leaving a computer or home connection running. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. This is for uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and it streams to YouTube.
