Link is the physical video-ingest device; it does not publish directly to YouTube, Facebook, or Twitch. [AWS Elemental Link overview] [MediaLive workflow wizard]
How the AWS Elemental Link social-streaming workflow works
The signal path is camera or production source → AWS Elemental Link hardware → AWS Elemental MediaLive input and channel → social destination. Link gets the video into AWS. MediaLive provides the cloud encoding and delivery workflow. AWS’s workflow wizard lists Facebook, Twitch, and YouTube as destination choices; the destination platform’s account and permissions still need to be in place. [AWS Elemental Link overview] [MediaLive workflow wizard]
Choose Link HD or Link UHD
Match the hardware to the resolution of the source you plan to send. AWS documents both versions as producing the same resolution in HEVC when used as a MediaLive input. Link UHD has an additional documented use as the source for a MediaConnect flow, with AVC or HEVC output. [AWS: HD and UHD Link devices]
| Device | Documented MediaLive input limit | MediaLive input output | Other documented use |
|---|---|---|---|
| AWS Elemental Link HD | HD or lower | Same resolution, HEVC | Not stated by AWS for this comparison |
| AWS Elemental Link UHD | UHD or lower | Same resolution, HEVC | MediaConnect flow; UHD or lower, AVC or HEVC |
These are AWS-documented device capabilities, not a guarantee that a social platform will accept every resolution or encoding configuration. Check the destination’s current live-stream requirements when configuring delivery. [AWS: HD and UHD Link devices]
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What you need before setup
- An AWS account with access to the Elemental Link input-device interface. AWS IAM permissions are required to use it. [AWS: Using Link for a MediaLive input]
- A Link device appropriate for your source resolution. A Link device obtained through an AWS reseller must be claimed before use, according to AWS. [AWS: Using Link for a MediaLive input]
- A camera or production system that supplies the live video feed, plus an internet connection for the Link device.
- A social destination account that is authorized and configured to receive the broadcast. MediaLive’s wizard lists Facebook, Twitch, and YouTube, but does not remove platform-specific account requirements. [AWS: About the workflow wizard]
Keep the device, MediaLive input, and channel in the same AWS Region. The device must also be configured in the AWS account you intend to use. [AWS: Using Link for a MediaLive input]
Set up the Link device and MediaLive input
- Deploy and connect the hardware. Follow the instructions packaged with the Link device and connect it to the internet. Once online, it automatically connects to MediaLive in its configured AWS account and Region. AWS provides a connectivity diagnostics utility on its deployment page. [AWS: Deploying the Link hardware]
- Open MediaLive in the device’s Region. Sign in to the AWS Management Console with an identity that has the required IAM permissions, then select the Region where the Link device is configured. [AWS: Using Link for a MediaLive input] [AWS: Create an Elemental Link input]
- Create an Elemental Link input. In the MediaLive console, create an input of type Elemental Link and choose the device. AWS describes single-class and standard-class input choices: its procedure specifies one device for a single-class input and two devices for a standard-class input. [AWS: Create an Elemental Link input]
- Verify the incoming video. Power on the Link device, connect it to the internet, and confirm that it is sending video. MediaLive can show a content thumbnail while the device is streaming; AWS says the device captures a frame approximately every five seconds for thumbnails. [AWS: Using Link for a MediaLive input] [AWS: Create an Elemental Link input]
Connect the input to a channel and choose a social destination
When the Link device is powered on, online, and sending video, attach the input to a MediaLive channel and configure the delivery workflow. AWS recommends waiting until the device is sending video before attaching it to avoid idle-input and running-channel charges. [AWS: Using Link for a MediaLive input]

- Use the MediaLive workflow wizard to create a workflow with Link hardware as the single source.
- Select Facebook, Twitch, or YouTube as the destination offered by the wizard.
- Complete the destination’s required account authorization and settings, then review the resources the wizard will create before starting the workflow.
AWS says the wizard “works best when you use it to create these resources, rather than using existing resources.” It can provision much of the upstream and downstream setup, but that does not mean it configures every existing social account or resolves platform-specific permissions. [AWS: About the workflow wizard]
Check signal health and troubleshoot problems
Start with the device and MediaLive input before diagnosing the social destination. Link’s network diagnostics test connectivity conditions; passing those tests does not establish that the final social-platform stream is publishing successfully. [AWS: Deploying the Link hardware]

| Symptom or check | What to inspect | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Device does not appear online | Diagnostics report whether the configured IP address is applied, the gateway responds, DNS resolves, AWS is reachable over HTTPS, time sync works on NTP port 123, and video packets can be sent to AWS on port 2088. | Use the diagnostic results to isolate network configuration or reachability issues, then confirm the device is online in the configured AWS account and Region. [AWS: Deploying the Link hardware] |
| MediaLive input has no visible picture | Check that the Link unit is powered, has internet access, and is sending video; inspect the MediaLive thumbnail and device metrics. | Wait for the device to send video before attaching the input to the channel, then check the signal again. [AWS: Using Link for a MediaLive input] [AWS: Create an Elemental Link input] |
| Input or device is unavailable in the console | Confirm the selected AWS Region, account, IAM permissions, and whether a reseller-supplied device has been claimed. | Use the same Region for the device, input, and channel, and verify account access to the Link input-device interface. [AWS: Using Link for a MediaLive input] |
| MediaLive receives video, but the social stream does not appear | Check the selected workflow destination and the destination account’s authorization and platform-side settings. | Confirm the channel workflow is configured for that destination and that the platform account permits the broadcast; device network diagnostics do not test social publishing. Or let it run in the cloud
AWS Elemental Link and MediaLive are a live camera-ingest and broadcast workflow. If what you need instead is a YouTube channel that keeps uploaded videos playing as a 24/7 loop, StreamNeo is a separate option: upload the video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running without a computer or home connection staying on.
