If you do not need PC scenes or overlays, broadcasting directly from the phone is simpler. An Android emulator is another option, but the game then runs on the PC—not on your phone.
Choose how the game will reach your stream

There is no established head-to-head latency or picture-quality result for these approaches. Choose based on whether the game must run on your physical phone, the scene controls you need, your available connections, and confirmed device and game compatibility.
Option 1: Broadcast directly from the phone
Twitch documents game broadcasting through its Android and iOS app. This is the shortest route if you do not need to build the broadcast in PC software.
- Install and open the Twitch app on the phone, sign in, and use its mobile game-broadcasting flow.
- Grant the microphone permission if prompted. Before going live, check that game audio and microphone audio are both being captured as intended.
- Connect to Wi-Fi where practical. Twitch recommends Wi-Fi for performance and to reduce potential mobile-data charges.
- Silence notifications or turn on an appropriate Focus or Do Not Disturb setting. Anything visible on the phone screen may appear in the broadcast.
- Keep the phone awake while live. Twitch says a direct mobile stream ends if the device locks.
This app-based route does not support overlays, and Twitch says it cannot broadcast the game screen and the front- or back-facing camera at the same time. If you need a PC scene with overlays or a simultaneous camera view, send the phone feed to desktop software instead.

Option 2: Send the physical phone’s screen to PC software
With this route, the game still runs on the handset, while the PC receives its screen feed for your streaming scene. The connection may be a local-network feed or a cable-and-mirroring workflow. Twitch describes PC tools for a phone-and-PC setup, and Streamlabs documents a local-network source for Android gameplay.
- Choose a method supported by your phone and desktop software. For Android, check whether the chosen software’s LAN source supports your phone and network. For a cable-based mirror, confirm the exact phone, operating-system version, cable, and any required adapter.
- Connect the phone and PC as the method requires. A LAN workflow depends on the devices being reachable on the local network; a wired workflow depends on a compatible data connection and mirroring method.
- Add the incoming phone feed as a source in your desktop streaming software. Arrange and size it in the scene, then add other scene elements such as overlays or a camera if needed.
- Set up audio separately and verify it. Do not assume every mirror method passes internal game audio or microphone audio in the same way. Listen to a test recording or preview and check for both the game and your voice before broadcasting.
- Check for interruptions before going live. Confirm that the phone stays connected, the picture is visible in the scene, and notifications or private screens will not be exposed.
Software and operating-system support varies. The available documentation does not establish a complete compatibility matrix or guarantee that every phone, game, network, and audio route works together. Test your exact setup before an important broadcast.

Option 3: Capture the phone’s video output with a capture card
A capture card is optional, not a requirement for every phone-streaming setup. It can bring a compatible external video output into the PC, but you need to confirm the whole chain before buying: phone video output, port, adapter requirements, capture-card input, and computer connection. A charging or data port by itself does not establish that a phone can output video.
- Verify video output for your exact phone model. Check the manufacturer’s specifications and the requirements of the mirroring or video-output method you intend to use.
- Match the adapters and capture input. Identify the phone’s output connection, any required adapter, the signal accepted by the capture card, and the available port on the computer.
- Connect and select the capture source in your desktop software. Confirm that the phone image appears in the scene before you start the stream.
- Test audio as a separate part of the setup. Check the capture and microphone paths in a preview or test recording; do not assume that a working picture means game audio is also routed correctly.
For iPhone gameplay, Elgato’s guide describes QuickTime over USB as a practical option and also covers capture-card workflows. Whether either approach applies to you depends on the exact phone and connections. Do not purchase a card or adapter until compatibility is confirmed.

Option 4: Run an Android game in an emulator
An emulator avoids capturing a physical phone: the game runs on the PC, and desktop streaming software captures the PC game. Streamlabs documents a BlueStacks workflow with Streamlabs Desktop. This is not a way to show gameplay happening on your handset, and it depends on the game being usable in an emulator.
- Install an Android emulator, such as BlueStacks, and the game you intend to play, subject to the game’s compatibility and rules.
- Open the game in the emulator and confirm that its controls and display work as expected.
- Open Streamlabs Desktop and add the emulator or game window to a scene using the appropriate capture source.
- Check game audio, microphone audio, scene layout, and the captured image in a preview or test recording.
An emulator changes the source of the gameplay. If the game must run on your phone—for example, because you need to show that specific device—use a phone-feed or capture route instead.

Get the stream ready and troubleshoot the common failures
Before you go live
- Play for a short test and verify that the PC or broadcast app receives a stable picture.
- Listen for game audio and microphone audio independently. If one is missing, inspect that route’s audio settings rather than assuming the video connection also carries sound.
- Check the scene for cropped or covered game content, and confirm that overlays do not hide important interface elements.
- Silence notifications and avoid opening private apps while broadcasting.
- Confirm that the phone will stay awake for a direct mobile stream, or that the chosen PC connection remains active for a mirrored or captured feed.
If the phone image does not appear on the PC
- For a LAN source, check that the source is supported by the software and that the phone and PC can reach each other on the local network.
- For a cable or capture-card route, check the exact phone, operating-system version, port, cable, adapter, video-output support, capture input, and computer connection.
- Re-select or re-add the intended source in the desktop scene, then preview it again.
If the picture works but audio does not
- Check game-audio and microphone capture separately in the phone app, mirroring method, capture path, or desktop software.
- Make a short test recording and listen to it. A visible feed does not prove that internal game audio is being passed through.
If a direct phone broadcast stops
- Check whether the device locked. Twitch says its direct mobile stream ends when the device locks, so keep the screen awake while broadcasting.
- Use Wi-Fi where practical and check that the phone has a reliable connection.
If private information appears on stream
- End or pause the broadcast, silence notifications, enable an appropriate Focus or Do Not Disturb setting, and avoid opening private apps on the broadcast device.
Can OBS run the mobile stream on the phone?
OBS Studio itself is not offered as a mobile app in the OBS Project’s mobile-app information. That page lists third-party mobile streaming apps, whose availability and features vary by platform and app. For a PC-based OBS scene, bring the phone’s feed into the computer through a compatible mirroring or capture route; check the app and device support before relying on a particular connection method.
