What to prioritize to survive
99 Nights in the Forest is a free Roblox co-op survival horror game. Players build a camp, rescue four missing children, and try to survive night threats. The practical loop is to gather and prepare by day, then stay alive at night; the community-maintained beginner guide puts it simply: “The core loop is simple: gather by day, defend by night, and keep your campfire lit.”
Keep the campfire burning
Build and light the campfire as an early priority. The beginner guide describes its light as a safe zone at night, and PC Gamer’s survival tips guide likewise recommends feeding the fire before exploring. Treat fuel as a continuing requirement, not a one-time task: gather enough to keep the fire going while also reserving wood for construction and upgrades.
Use daylight to prepare
Collect wood and stone, craft essential gear, and search nearby buildings and chests for useful supplies. Take fuel items when you find them, but do not burn every piece of wood; you may need it to build as well as to maintain the fire.

Avoid the Deer rather than fighting it
The community guide says weapons do not kill the Deer and recommends remaining within campfire light. If it threatens you, shine a flashlight to stun it briefly, then use that pause to retreat. If you are caught away from camp, breaking line of sight can help you gain distance. Do not treat the stun as a way to win a fight.
A practical first-day route
- Gather close to camp. Collect nearby wood and stone so you can get the campfire built and lit without committing to a long trip.
- Make fuel and building needs compete on purpose. Keep enough wood available to feed the fire, while setting aside some for construction and upgrades. Replant trees when possible, as PC Gamer advises.
- Search nearby buildings during daylight. Look for useful items and open chests. Pick up fuel when it helps, but do not spend all your wood as fuel.
- Secure a flashlight and keep it accessible. The beginner guide recommends it as a brief deterrent against the Deer. Use the opening to retreat toward the campfire.
- Head back before night becomes dangerous. The Deer hunts players outside the fire’s light. If you cannot reach camp immediately, break line of sight to create space and escape.
Once your camp can sustain itself, use later daylight trips to pursue larger objectives, including rescuing children. The field guide says rescues reduce the number of nights required, so they can help you make progress rather than merely extending your supply runs.

Choose upgrades for your current bottleneck
PC Gamer reports that the Pelt Trader first appears on day two and may exchange a Rabbit’s Foot for one of three items. Its author prefers the Good Axe because it speeds up tree chopping, but that is a personal recommendation—not a universal ranking.
| Upgrade | What it helps with | When it may suit you |
|---|---|---|
| Good Axe | Faster tree chopping, according to PC Gamer’s guide. | Choose it if gathering wood is slowing your fuel and building plans. |
| Good Sack | Carrying capacity. | Consider it if carrying more supplies is your immediate constraint. |
| Old Flashlight | Access to flashlight equipment. | Consider it if you lack a flashlight and need one for escaping the Deer. |
The guide’s author says flashlights are easy to find, but that may depend on the current game state and updates. Exact trader costs, crafting recipes, and patch-specific rankings are not established by these guides, so check what the live game offers before committing to a route.

Keep a team moving after someone falls
In co-op, keep bandages or medkits available: PC Gamer’s guide says they can revive a fallen teammate. That makes healing supplies part of preparation, not just something to search for after a player is down. Coordinate daylight trips and return timing so a teammate is not left outside the fire’s light at night.
