How to Survive Frozen Trail in ARC Raiders: Cold Hazards, Routes, and Supplies

By VGSources Team 13 min read

Surviving Frozen Trail starts with treating Pendola Pass as a cold, high-risk extraction map rather than a normal loot run. Watch for the game’s cold warnings, carry bandages, move between cover, and keep your route flexible. Frozen Trail launched on October 8, 2026, adding Pendola Pass beyond the mountain ridge and Rust Belt, along with the Bully, Skulker, and Hydra ARC threats.

The map’s loot is not fixed: Pendola Pass is testing Dynamic Loot Zones, so the value of particular areas can change between raids. There is no evidence for a permanently best route, guaranteed loot total, cold-damage timer, or loot probability. Plan around the conditions you actually see, then extract before exposure and detours consume your supplies.

Pendola Pass at a glance

Pendola Pass is the Frozen Trail map introduced in the October 8, 2026 update. The official preview describes an icy, narrow region containing an old Italian village and an Exodus transport hub. Recognizable locations include a supermarket, town square, observatory, and buried train depot. Ballistic Gondolas are operating as Raiders enter the region beyond the ridge and Rust Belt.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Those landmarks are useful for orientation, but none should be treated as a guaranteed loot route. The update notes describe Dynamic Loot Zones as a test in which the loot values of certain areas vary between raids. A location that justified a long detour in one match may not be worth the same exposure in the next.

Map feature What it means for a raid
Icy, narrow terrain Exposure and escape options matter when choosing between a valuable interior and a faster covered path.
Old Italian village Use buildings and surrounding foliage as navigation references and potential cover.
Supermarket and town square These are named points of interest, not permanently ranked loot destinations.
Observatory A distinct landmark for checking your position while planning the next covered move.
Buried train depot A subterranean or partially buried landmark that can change how you approach cover and exits.
Exodus transport hub A major map reference associated with the region’s transport infrastructure.
Ballistic Gondolas Operating transport in the launch announcement; treat them as an in-game route option rather than a required path.

How the cold warning system tells you to react

The most specific cold-survival instructions come from the official Cold Snap developer guide published on December 20, 2025. That guide predates Frozen Trail, so use these as official winter guidance and confirm the exact behavior in your current Pendola Pass raid rather than assuming every Cold Snap interaction is unchanged.

Freezing breath

Freezing breath is the clearest visual warning described by the developers. Gameplay Programmer Fredrik Åhström put it plainly: “When you see your breath freezing in the air that means you are getting colder.” Treat that cue as a prompt to shorten the next exposure, seek a safer position, and stop taking optional fights.

Frost on clothing

Frost appearing on your clothing is another environmental cue that your core temperature is falling. It is not a reason to wait for a numerical threshold that has not been published. Use it to reassess whether the next building, loot room, or objective is worth crossing open snow.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Heavier breathing

Heavier breathing is the character-level warning listed in the same guide. When it appears alongside frost or freezing breath, assume the cold problem is worsening and prioritize cover, a shorter route, and extraction over another search loop.

What has not been established

The official material does not provide a named cold timer, damage-per-second value, temperature threshold, or route success rate for Frozen Trail. Do not build a plan around an invented countdown. The practical rule is cue-based: react to the warnings you can see and hear, and leave more margin when conditions become severe.

Supplies and equipment to bring

Your loadout should support recovery, movement, and a rapid response to ARC pressure. The following recommendations combine the Frozen Trail announcements with the earlier developer winter guidance; they are in-game choices, not a shopping list of real-world products.

Item or preparation Why it helps How to use it
Bandages The Cold Snap developer guide specifically recommends keeping them stocked. Carry enough for damage taken while crossing exposed areas or disengaging from ARC. Do not spend the last one on a minor injury if the extraction route is still long.
Sprint-stamina preparation The winter guide recommends preparing stamina for longer runs. Reserve sprint capacity for the dash between cover, a Hydra opening, or the final extraction movement instead of spending it on every short reposition.
Tethers The Frozen Trail launch announcement names Tethers among the items Raiders can prepare through the Outpost. Choose them when your planned route benefits from an additional movement or positioning option; they are not mandatory for every raid.
Grapple Hook The launch announcement also names the Grapple Hook as an Outpost preparation option. Use it when vertical access, a fast escape, or broken terrain makes mobility more valuable than carrying another utility item.
Weapons suited to short openings The preview says the Hydra should be attacked rapidly when an opening appears. Bring a weapon you can control during a brief attack window, but do not stay exposed to force extra damage.
Fire source or fire opportunity The Cold Snap guide says being on fire is the fastest way to warm up. Because this guidance predates Frozen Trail, verify how the interaction behaves in your current match and avoid treating fire as a universal or risk-free solution.

Returning to Speranza restores the loadout to its pre-match state, according to the update notes. That does not make reckless losses free during the raid: you still have to survive the encounter and reach extraction. It does mean you can plan a later attempt without assuming that a temporary in-match change permanently rewrites your stored loadout.

Build a route that can change mid-raid

Dynamic Loot Zones make route planning a decision under uncertainty. The goal is not to memorize one circuit; it is to decide whether the next area’s current value justifies the cold exposure, ARC risk, and distance from extraction.

Start with a covered objective

From your entry point, identify the nearest building, terrain break, or other cover that lets you interrupt a long run. The old village, supermarket, town square, observatory, and train depot are navigation references. Choose one as an initial anchor, then identify a second covered position before you leave the first.

Check the raid before committing

Dynamic Loot Zones mean the same landmark can have a different payoff between raids. Scout the approach, note current ARC activity, and reassess the value shown by the game before crossing an exposed section. If the area is contested or the reward is no longer compelling, rotate to the next landmark instead of defending a plan made before deployment.

Use a two-option exit

For every loot stop, keep a primary route and a fallback. The fallback can be a different building, a lower-exposure line around the point of interest, or a direct withdrawal toward extraction. A route with slightly less loot but two escape options is often more resilient than a high-value room that leaves you trapped in a narrow approach.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Spend stamina on danger, not convenience

Long runs are where the winter guide’s sprint-stamina advice matters most. Walk or use cover when the path is safe, then sprint the exposed gap. Preserve enough stamina to break line of sight, reach cover after a Hydra cue, or finish the extraction movement after an unexpected ARC encounter.

Leave when the route stops paying

Loot value is only one part of the decision. If frost, freezing breath, or heavy breathing appears while you are still several moves from safety, stop adding optional rooms. The correct response to a bad value-to-exposure trade is a controlled retreat, not a larger detour to justify the time already spent.

A practical Frozen Trail raid procedure

  1. Prepare at the Outpost. Select bandages and a movement option such as Tethers or the Grapple Hook when it fits your intended route. The launch announcement presents these as preparation choices, not mandatory equipment.
  2. Choose an initial landmark. Use the village, supermarket, square, observatory, buried train depot, or Exodus transport hub to establish direction. Pick a covered approach and identify a fallback before moving.
  3. Watch for all three cold cues. Check clothing for frost, listen for heavier breathing, and look for freezing breath. Any cue should make you more conservative about open crossings and optional loot.
  4. Scout the current loot value. Dynamic Loot Zones can change area values between raids. Compare the reward visible in the current raid with the distance, exposure, and ARC activity required to reach it.
  5. Move cover to cover. Break long crossings into short sprints. Save stamina for the point where exposure, an ARC patrol, or a sudden withdrawal makes speed essential.
  6. Handle distractions carefully. The Cold Snap guide says throwing snowballs at alarmed cars can create a noise distraction that diverts ARC. Verify that this interaction behaves the same way on Frozen Trail before relying on it, and do not throw one merely to create noise when your position is already compromised.
  7. Reassess after every fight. Count remaining bandages, stamina, and utility. If the next area offers only marginal value or has poor escape options, rotate toward extraction.
  8. React to a flash freeze immediately. The official preview warns of brutal flash freezes. Seek cover quickly, stop looting in the open, and shorten the route rather than waiting for a published timer that does not exist.
  9. Extract on the first sensible window. A flexible route is successful when it gets you out with useful loot, not when it visits every named landmark.

How to deal with the Hydra

The Hydra is associated with the Frigate and is one of the major threats introduced with Frozen Trail. The official preview gives a specific sequence: divert its attention, find cover quickly, and attack rapidly when an opening appears.

Divert attention before attacking

Do not begin by standing in the open and trying to out-damage the Hydra. Create a reason for its attention to move away from your intended position, then use the resulting separation to reach cover. The preview does not prescribe one universal diversion tool, so select from the options available in your current loadout and terrain.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Reach cover before you look for damage

Cover is the middle step, not an optional comfort. The Hydra encounter can overlap with cold exposure and narrow terrain, so choose cover that also provides a second exit. A dead-end shelter may block the first attack but leave you unable to disengage when the opening closes.

Attack only during the opening

Once the Hydra’s attention is diverted and you are protected, use the brief opportunity to deal damage quickly. The preview emphasizes rapid attacks rather than a prolonged exchange. If the opening disappears, stop firing, return to cover, and repeat the sequence instead of chasing damage into exposure.

Do not let the Hydra erase your extraction plan

Before committing, check your remaining bandages, stamina, and distance to an extraction point. If the encounter consumes the resources needed to cross the next exposed section, disengagement may be the better outcome. Frozen Trail rewards a completed extraction more reliably than an unnecessary final attack, especially when the current loot value is variable.

Other new threats and environmental pressure

Frozen Trail adds the Bully and Skulker alongside the Hydra. The launch announcement and preview identify them as new ARC threats, but the cited official material does not provide a complete behavior table, damage values, or a ranked counter-loadout for either one. Avoid assuming that a tactic documented for the Hydra automatically applies to them.

Use the same broad principles when you encounter any unfamiliar ARC: break line of sight with cover, preserve a fallback route, avoid spending all stamina before the retreat, and reassess the value of continuing. The map’s narrow icy spaces make an escape plan more important than forcing every engagement.

Cold-specific tactics from the earlier winter guide

Several useful details come from the December 20, 2025 Cold Snap guide rather than the Frozen Trail launch materials. Keeping the date and source distinction visible prevents an older seasonal interaction from being mistaken for a newly confirmed Pendola Pass rule.

Warming with fire

An unnamed Gameplay Engineer is quoted in the guide saying, “Being on fire is the fastest way to warm up.” This is developer winter guidance, not a published Frozen Trail balance specification. Test the interaction in your current version and account for the danger of setting yourself alight or exposing your position before depending on it during a valuable run.

Snowballs and alarmed cars

The guide says, “Throwing Snowballs on alarmed cars can create a noise distraction to divert the ARC away from your location.” The wording describes a specific distraction interaction from Cold Snap. Because the guide predates Frozen Trail, treat it as a tactic to verify in-game, not as a guaranteed Pendola Pass mechanic.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Candleberry foraging

The guide identifies Candleberry bushes as evergreen with bright red fruit. World and Level Designer Marika Ohlsson says bushes are usually around smaller structures, rocky areas, and other foliage. This is seasonal foraging context rather than essential Frozen Trail survival equipment. Do not extend a route into exposed terrain solely to search for a bush when your cold cues are worsening.

Choosing between competing route priorities

There is no source-backed ranking of two named routes or a tested best loadout. Instead, compare each option using the following planning axes.

Decision axis Prefer the first option when… Prefer the second option when…
Cold exposure versus scavenging time The next room has meaningful current value and a short, covered approach. The value is uncertain, exposure is long, or cold warnings have begun.
Cover and escape options versus loot value The safer location offers enough reward for the raid’s objective. The higher-value location has a viable fallback and you still have stamina and healing.
Flexibility versus a fixed route Dynamic Loot Zone values or ARC activity make the original plan obsolete. The current route remains covered, profitable, and close to a reliable extraction.

These are planning criteria inferred from the documented hazards and variable loot, not tested rankings. Your current raid state should decide which side of an axis wins.

Correction: Treat named landmarks as navigation anchors. Recheck value and exposure at every stop, and keep a fallback route ready.

Waiting for a numerical cold threshold

Problem: No official Frozen Trail source supplies a cold timer or damage threshold.

Correction: React to freezing breath, frost on clothing, and heavier breathing. Use those cues to reduce exposure and begin the return.

Spending all stamina before the dangerous crossing

Problem: Convenience sprints leave no reserve for an ARC encounter, Hydra cover, or extraction.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Correction: Walk through safe covered sections and sprint only between exposed positions or during a planned withdrawal.

Taking the Hydra in the open

Problem: You lose the protection needed for the preview’s diversion-and-opening sequence.

Correction: Divert attention, reach cover quickly, then attack during the opening. Break contact when the opening ends.

Assuming Cold Snap details are automatically unchanged

Problem: A tactic from December 2025 is treated as a guaranteed Frozen Trail mechanic.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Correction: Label it as older official winter guidance and verify snowball distractions, fire warming, and Candleberry behavior in the current build.

Correction: Stop the search, move to cover, and resume only if the route still has enough value after the weather and ARC pressure settle.

Trials Season 6 timing

Trials Season 6 is scheduled for October 8 through November 16, 2026. Its objectives include Pendola Pass hotspots and the new ARC threats. If you are completing trials rather than simply extracting, decide before deployment which objective is worth pursuing and where you will abandon it. A trial objective does not remove the need to monitor cold cues, conserve stamina, or adapt to changing loot values.

Frozen Trail pre-deployment checklist

  • Bring bandages and confirm you have enough healing for an exposed withdrawal.
  • Prepare sprint stamina for the longest crossing you may need to make.
  • Choose Tethers, the Grapple Hook, or another available utility only when it supports your route.
  • Identify an initial landmark, a covered approach, and a fallback before leaving your entry area.
  • Remember that Dynamic Loot Zones can change the value of named locations between raids.
  • Watch for frost on clothing, heavier breathing, and freezing breath.
  • Reserve stamina for Hydra cover, ARC disengagement, and extraction.
  • Verify older Cold Snap interactions in the current game before relying on fire warming or snowball distractions.
  • Leave when exposure, resource loss, or a poor current loot value outweighs another room.

What a successful run looks like

A successful Frozen Trail raid is not the one that visits every landmark or defeats every new ARC. It is the one in which you recognize cold warnings early, use cover before the Hydra’s opening disappears, adapt to the current Dynamic Loot Zone values, and extract with enough resources left to survive the route home. Pendola Pass rewards deliberate movement and flexible decisions because its weather and loot conditions can punish a plan that never changes.
