To talk in ARC Raiders on Xbox or PlayStation, enable voice chat at Settings > Audio > Voice Chat > Enable Voice Chat. Use Party Voice Chat for your squad and Proximity Voice Chat to speak with nearby Raiders—including players outside your squad.
The most practical setup is Open Microphone for party chat and Push to Talk or Toggle to Talk for proximity chat. Your squad can hear you without an extra button press, while nearby players hear you only when you deliberately transmit.

How to enable voice chat
- Open Settings.
- Select Audio.
- Open Voice Chat.
- Turn on Enable Voice Chat.
The same area contains microphone-mode controls for regular party voice and proximity voice. The available modes are:
- Open Microphone: transmits whenever the game detects your voice.
- Push to Talk: transmits only while you hold the assigned control.
- Toggle to Talk: press once to start transmitting and press again to stop.
There is also a Microphone Test under Audio > Voice Chat. It plays your voice back locally; communication with other Raiders is unavailable while the test is running.

How to use party and proximity chat
Party or squad voice chat
Party chat is for members of your squad. Open Audio > Party Voice Chat > Party Voice Chat Mode, then choose your preferred mode. The listed default is Open Microphone.
With the default console controls, party push-to-talk is:
- Xbox: hold D-Pad Down + LB.
- PlayStation: hold D-Pad Down + L1.
These controls can be changed through the game’s controller bindings if you prefer a different layout.
Proximity voice chat
Proximity chat reaches nearby Raiders outside your squad, including opposing Raiders. Open Audio > Proximity Voice Chat > Proximity Voice Chat Mode and select Push to Talk, Toggle to Talk, or Open Microphone.
The listed default is Push to Talk. With that setting, hold:

A proximity voice indicator appears on the HUD when nearby players can hear your transmission. Release the button when you want to stop speaking.
Recommended Xbox and PlayStation setup
For most console players, use:
- Party Voice Chat Mode: Open Microphone
- Proximity Voice Chat Mode: Push to Talk or Toggle to Talk
This separates the two audiences: your squad hears your ongoing callouts, while nearby non-squad players hear you only when you activate proximity transmission. If you do not want constant squad transmission, set party chat to Push to Talk or Toggle to Talk instead.
Adjust party and proximity volume
ARC Raiders provides separate controls under Audio for Party Voice Chat Volume and Proximity Voice Chat Volume. The current settings reference lists both on a 0–200% scale, with listed defaults of 100% for party chat and 140% for proximity chat. Raise one channel independently if squadmates or nearby players are difficult to hear.
Check these console settings if voice chat does not work
First, check the microphone itself
A muted controller or headset microphone prevents transmission even when ARC Raiders voice chat is enabled. On PS5, check the DualSense hardware mute button beneath the PlayStation logo.
Xbox: leave an Xbox system Party or switch back to game chat
If you are in an Xbox Party, voice communication uses that party rather than ARC Raiders’ in-game party and proximity channels. To return to game chat, open:

Embark’s console voice-chat troubleshooting guide documents this limitation. A player-reported workaround for an apparently dead in-game voice state is to create a temporary Xbox Party, leave it, return to ARC Raiders, and test the in-game voice indicator. It is a workaround rather than a guaranteed fix.
Xbox: allow voice communication in privacy settings
Check this Xbox path:
Xbox button > Profile & System > Settings > Account > Privacy & Online Safety > Xbox Privacy > View Details and Customize > Communication & Multiplayer
Set You can communicate outside of the Xbox network with voice & text to Everybody. This is required for the documented voice-chat setup.
PS5: disable the Game Base voice mute
PS5 can mute game voice chat independently of ARC Raiders. Check:

PS button > Game Base > Options button > Go to Game Base > Game Base Settings > Voice Chat Settings
Turn Mute Game Voice Chat Off and set Share Your Voice to Allow.
PS5: avoid setting both channels to Toggle to Talk if squad voice fails
Player reports describe squad voice failing when both squad and proximity chat are set to Toggle to Talk. This is not an officially documented requirement, but if you encounter that behavior, try Open Microphone for party chat and Push to Talk or Toggle to Talk for proximity chat.

Embark lists the following voice-chat connectivity requirements:
- TCP: ports 5222 and 443
- UDP: ports 5222 and 443
Embark also identifies UPnP/Open NAT and DNS configuration as possible connectivity factors. If local settings and console privacy controls are correct but voice still fails, review your router’s NAT and UPnP configuration, then consult the official console voice-chat troubleshooting guidance.

Raider Voice and performance
Settings > Audio > Raider Voice (Beta) applies a voice effect to party chat, proximity chat, or both. The settings reference warns that using Raider Voice with Open Microphone can place additional strain on lower-end systems. If you notice performance problems, use Push to Talk or Toggle to Talk instead.
Is a console system party required?
No. ARC Raiders has its own Party Voice Chat channel for squad communication, so you do not need an Xbox or PlayStation system party to talk privately with your squad. On Xbox, joining a system Party can instead stop the game’s party and proximity voice from working until you select Switch to game chat.
ARC Raiders uses controller bindings and in-game settings for console voice communication. No chat-command syntax is documented in Embark’s current communication and troubleshooting instructions.
