You cannot tame an adult Fire, Lightning, Poison, or Ice Wyvern by knocking it out and feeding it. The practical method is to steal a fertilized egg from a wild nest, escape the defending wyverns, incubate the egg, and raise the hatchling on Wyvern Milk until it becomes an adult.

What “taming a wyvern” actually means
Wyverns use a raise-from-an-egg progression rather than the normal knockout-taming process. An adult wild wyvern remains untameable, so the tame begins when you remove a fertilized egg from a nest. The egg hatches into a baby that belongs to you, and the raising stage replaces the food-and-torpor stage used for many other creatures.

The four standard egg variants are Fire, Lightning, Poison, and Ice. The egg’s element determines the type of wyvern that eventually hatches. You need to choose an egg before the theft because the element cannot be changed during incubation or maturation.
Raising is a sustained operation, not a single interaction. You must protect the egg while it incubates, obtain enough milk for the hatchling, watch its food stat, and answer imprint requests when they appear. Temperature, map conditions, difficulty and server maturation multipliers can change the workload substantially.

Prepare before entering a nest area
Nest trenches and similar areas are dangerous because nearby adults become hostile when an egg is removed. The official community wiki recommends a fast mount and minimal carried gear; that advice is more important than bringing every item you own. Plan for an escape in which the mount may be lost and the egg may be the only irreplaceable item on your character.
Preparation checklist
- Fast, expendable flying mount: choose speed and maneuverability over a mount you cannot afford to lose. You need enough stamina to leave the nest area and create distance from pursuing adults.
- Food and water: carry enough for the theft, the return trip and delays caused by failed approaches.
- Healing supplies: damage during the approach or escape can end the run before you reach safety.
- Minimal valuables: leave unnecessary equipment at a secure base so a death does not turn the egg theft into a total loss.
- Preplanned destination: decide where you will land, store the egg and begin incubation before you take it.
- Escape route: identify open airspace and a direction away from the trench. Do not improvise your route after adults are already chasing you.
A trap can be prepared for pursuing wyverns, but no single design works on every map or server. Construction materials, available space, creature behavior and server settings all affect whether a trap buys you enough time. Treat a trap as an option that supports an escape plan, not as a guaranteed solution.

Choosing an egg type

Eggs come from nests made by wild wyverns. Look for a nest containing a fertilized egg, then take the egg and leave immediately. The adults’ response is the main danger: they can pursue an egg thief with extreme hostility, so lingering to search for a better level or a second egg increases the chance of losing the mount and the first egg.
A safer theft sequence
- Approach with the expendable flying mount and keep your escape direction in mind.
- Confirm that the item is a fertilized egg before picking it up.
- Take one egg, mount up and depart the nest area without stopping to loot or fight.
- Follow the route you selected before the approach. Gain distance first; only then decide whether you need to divert toward a trap or shelter.
- Once the adults break pursuit, land in a secure location and move the egg into your incubation setup.
The exact nest layout and pursuit behavior can vary with the map and server configuration. A route that works on one installation may leave you exposed on another, so scout the terrain and keep a backup route rather than copying a universal “best” run.

Incubate the fertilized egg
An egg must be kept at its required temperature until it hatches. You can manage temperature manually with the structures and environmental controls available on your server, or use an Egg Incubator. The incubator is the more predictable option because it displays the egg’s condition and lets you maintain a stable environment rather than constantly correcting temperature swings.
Incubation procedure
- Place the fertilized egg in your temperature-control setup or Egg Incubator.
- Check that the egg is registering a stable incubation state rather than overheating or becoming too cold.
- Keep the area secure while the timer runs; losing the egg during incubation means repeating the nest raid.
- Monitor the timer and temperature until the egg hatches, then be ready to claim and feed the newborn immediately.
Under perfect temperature stability in an Egg Incubator, the official community wiki gives an incubation time of about five hours. That is a reference condition, not a universal promise: temperature instability and server settings can make the actual time longer or shorter.
Obtain Wyvern Milk before the hatch
Newborn wyverns do not eat Raw Meat. They consume Wyvern Milk until adulthood, and some imprint requests also ask for milk. You therefore need a milk plan before the egg hatches, not after the baby begins losing food.

The 50-milk figure applies to the stated Alpha Wyvern yield. It is not a universal amount from every wyvern, and the milk obtained from a knocked-out wild female depends on successfully carrying out that knockout. No universal total of milk consumed per baby is established, so calculate your reserve from the baby’s actual food stat and your server’s maturation rate instead of relying on a fixed community number.

Transport and storage planning
Arrange the route from the milk source to the nursery before you start the knockout or Alpha fight. A milk run that succeeds mechanically can still fail if the return trip takes long enough for the baby to reach zero food. Keep the nursery ready, clear a landing area, and avoid starting an egg hatch when you cannot remain available for the early feeding checks.
Feed the baby and manage its food stat
Wyvern Milk provides 1200 food to a baby under the cited game values. The same reference records an approximate consumption rate of one food every ten seconds, or 360 food per hour. Dividing 1200 by 360 gives about three hours and 20 minutes of food from one milk under those conditions.

These figures are planning aids, not a guaranteed schedule. Lower-level babies can have an effective food capacity below 1200, which means one milk may restore more food than the baby can hold. The wiki notes that such babies may need milk force-fed so the food is not wasted and the baby survives the interval. Check the baby’s food value directly after each feeding instead of assuming every milk creates the same buffer.
A practical feeding loop
- Claim the hatchling and put it in the prepared nursery.
- Place Wyvern Milk in the baby’s inventory and watch whether it consumes the milk automatically.
- Check food at regular intervals, especially during the first cycle and after any imprint request.
- If the food capacity is below the milk’s 1200-food value and the baby is approaching starvation, force-feed milk as appropriate for your server’s controls.
- Keep a reserve of milk and maintain access to a female or Alpha source until the baby reaches adulthood.
Do not substitute Raw Meat during this stage. The hatchling’s diet remains Wyvern Milk until it is an adult.

Understand incubation and maturation timers
Incubation and maturation are separate clocks. The approximately five-hour figure applies to hatching an egg under perfect temperature stability in an Egg Incubator. It does not describe the time from egg theft to an adult mount.
Maturation depends heavily on server multipliers. A cited Lightning Wyvern Egg page reports around three days and 20 hours to adulthood under its referenced settings. That is an example for that page’s conditions, not a universal timer for every Lightning egg, map, difficulty or single-player configuration. Your server’s maturation multiplier can change the length dramatically, so inspect the current settings before planning work shifts or an unattended raise.

- Use the incubator’s displayed timer for the egg rather than the five-hour reference when deciding when to return.
- Use the baby’s maturation percentage and current server multiplier to estimate later feeding intervals.
- Schedule your first several hours around the hatch, when food checks and imprint requests can be most disruptive.
- Do not leave the game assuming that a milk reserve calculated for one server will cover another server’s multiplier.
Respond to imprint requests
Baby wyverns can request care during imprinting, and a request may include Wyvern Milk. Respond to requests when possible because imprinting is tied to the individual baby’s raising process. The interval between requests and the total maturation window vary with the server’s maturation and cuddle multipliers, so a schedule from another server cannot be copied safely.
Before the hatch, keep milk available for both ordinary feeding and a possible imprint request. If you cannot fulfill a request, the baby can still continue maturing, but you will not receive the imprint benefit associated with that missed interaction. The exact number of requests is likewise multiplier-dependent rather than a fixed universal count.

Breed wyverns after you have adults
When you eventually have adult wyverns, breeding is restricted by elemental type: breed Fire with Fire, Lightning with Lightning, Poison with Poison, and Ice with Ice. Different wyvern types cannot interbreed. A successful breeding program therefore starts with enough adults of the same element, not merely any two wyverns.
Breeding does not remove the milk requirement. Every new baby still needs Wyvern Milk from a knocked-out wild female or from an Alpha Wyvern yield. Secure a repeatable milk source before starting a breeding cycle, especially if several eggs will hatch close together.

Common failure points and fixes
“I knocked out the adult, but there is no tame prompt.”
This is expected for adult standard wyverns. The tame begins with a fertilized egg, so leave the adult and return to a nest raid rather than spending resources trying to feed or tame it directly.
“The egg will not incubate.”
Check that it is fertilized, verify the incubator or temperature setup is active, and correct the temperature condition shown by the game. A five-hour reference assumes perfect stability; an unstable setup can prevent progress or extend the timer.
“The adults killed my mount during the theft.”
Reduce carried gear, use a faster expendable mount, and rehearse the escape direction before taking the egg. If a trap is part of the plan, confirm that its construction and placement fit your map and server rather than assuming a design is universal.
“The baby is starving even though I brought milk.”
Place milk in its inventory, watch the food stat and account for the cited 360-food-per-hour baseline. A lower-level baby’s capacity can be below 1200, and the wiki notes that force-feeding may be necessary. Check the baby more often instead of treating three hours and 20 minutes as a guaranteed interval.
“I ran out of milk during maturation.”
The total requirement is not a universal fixed number. It changes with the baby’s level, maturation multiplier, food consumption and imprint requests. Secure another female or Alpha source and compare the current food bar with the remaining maturation time before starting the next raise.

- Choose Fire, Lightning, Poison or Ice and scout a nest route.
- Store valuables, prepare food, water, healing supplies and a fast expendable flying mount.
- Set up an incubation area and decide where the hatchling will be raised.
- Secure a route to a wild female or plan an Alpha Wyvern hunt for milk.
- Steal one fertilized egg and escape the adults immediately.
- Incubate it with stable temperature control or an Egg Incubator.
- At the hatch, feed only Wyvern Milk and monitor the food stat.
- Force-feed when the baby’s effective capacity requires it, and reserve milk for imprint requests.
- Use your server’s maturation multiplier to schedule checks until adulthood.
