On a multiplayer Project Zomboid server, open chat with T and run the teleport command that matches your destination. Use /teleport "PlayerName" to move yourself to another player, /teleportplayer "PlayerA" "PlayerB" to move one player to another, or /teleportto x,y,z for coordinates. You need an appropriate server role: the Build 42.21 command reference lists observer as the lowest role for moving yourself and gm or higher for moving someone else. What you need before using a teleport command
Teleporting is an administrative server action, not a normal survival-game ability. Before entering a command, establish which game mode you are using, which account is issuing it, and which Build 42 branch or server configuration is active. The command parser and permission assignments can be changed by the server host, a hosting panel, configuration files, or mods.

How to open the right command context
Player chat
Press T to open chat and begin an administrative command with a forward slash. For example, type /teleport "PlayerName" and press Enter. The slash tells the chat parser that the line is a command rather than a message.

Dedicated-server console or RCON
Console and RCON input is already a command context, so omit the leading slash. Enter teleport "PlayerName", not /teleport "PlayerName". A console is not a player; therefore, a coordinate teleport issued there generally needs the username of the player being moved.
When a command works in chat but not in the console, first remove the slash. When a command works in the console but appears to do nothing in chat, check that your account has the required role and that the command is being sent to the game server rather than a local chat channel.

The commonly reported short aliases are /tp, /tpp, and /tpto. Use the full command names in instructions and administration logs because aliases and permissions can differ between branches or server setups.

Step-by-step: teleport yourself to another player
- Confirm that the target player is online and copy the account name exactly as the server displays it.
- Press
Tto open player chat. - Enter
/teleport "PlayerName", replacingPlayerNamewith the target’s name. - Press Enter and watch for the server’s success or error response.
- Check your surroundings immediately. Teleporting places you at the target’s current location, which may be inside a building, on a staircase, behind a locked door, or in an active combat area.
Quoting the name even when it has no spaces avoids ambiguity and is the safest habit. If the name contains spaces, quotation marks are required by the documented syntax. A spelling error, stale player name, missing permission, or target disconnect can all make an otherwise correct command fail.
Step-by-step: move one player to another
- Verify that both players are connected and identify which account should move.
- Make sure your administrative role allows moving another player. In the Build 42.21 reference,
gmor higher is required;observeris listed for moving yourself only. - Open chat with
T. - Run
/teleportplayer "PlayerA" "PlayerB". Player A is moved; Player B is the destination. - Ask Player A to confirm their new position and check for an unsafe spawn, such as a roof edge or a blocked interior tile.
Build 42.21 also reports /teleport "PlayerA" "PlayerB" as an equivalent two-name form. Because historical command examples are not guaranteed to match every server build, prefer /teleportplayer when your server lists it explicitly and use /help if the parser rejects either form.
Step-by-step: teleport to coordinates
Coordinate format
Project Zomboid uses an X, Y, Z triplet written as x,y,z. The values are separated by commas and contain no spaces. X and Y identify the horizontal world position; Z identifies the floor or vertical level. A syntactically valid example is 10000,11000,0.

Move yourself
- Obtain coordinates from the same server and map configuration. Do not copy a location from an unmodded map if your server uses custom maps.
- Press
Tand enter/teleportto 10000,11000,0, replacing the example values. - Press Enter and wait for the server response before issuing another command.
- Inspect the tile, nearby walls, stairs, doors, and roof edges before moving or driving.
Move a named player
Where the server supports the named-player form, use /teleportto "PlayerName" 10000,11000,0. In the dedicated console or RCON, remove the slash. If the server reports an argument error, run its command help: some versions expose only the self-teleport form, while others accept a player name followed by coordinates.
Why the example location is not a safe destination
10000,11000,0 demonstrates syntax only. It is not a universally safe meeting point. A coordinate can place a character inside a wall, on a roof, below the intended floor, in water, or outside the traversable area. Modded maps can use different coordinate ranges and may overlap or rotate map cells. Treat every coordinate as untrusted until you have confirmed it on the exact server and map set.
How to grant yourself access when you host the server
If you own or administer a co-op or dedicated server but your account lacks the required role, the admin command reference lists /grantadmin "YourName" for elevating an account. In player chat, retain the slash; in the server console or RCON, use grantadmin "YourName". Replace the example with the account name exactly as the server knows it.

- Confirm that you are using the host account or another account already allowed to grant administrator access.
- Run the grant command in the correct context.
- Reconnect or reload permissions if the server does not apply the role immediately.
- Run
/helpand test a harmless self-teleport before moving another player.
Do not assume that a hosting panel’s label, an old tutorial, or a mod’s role name maps directly to the Build 42.21 roles. Permission definitions can be customized, so the server’s own help output is authoritative for that installation.
Solo saves: use the Build 42 debug Teleport window
The multiplayer commands above are server commands. For a solo save, launch Project Zomboid with the -debug launch option and use the debug Teleport window instead of typing a chat command.
- Close the game if it is running.
- Add
-debugto the game’s launch options in your launcher. - Start the save with the debug mode enabled.
- Open the debug tools and choose the Teleport window.
- Select or enter the destination, apply the teleport, and inspect the resulting tile before continuing.
The exact debug-panel layout can change between branches. If the Teleport window is missing, verify that the launch option was applied to the correct game installation and that the save was started after enabling debug mode. Remove the option when you want to return to an ordinary, non-debug session.

Permissions, versions, and map compatibility
Role differences
The Build 42.21 reference distinguishes moving yourself from moving someone else: observer is the lowest listed role for self movement, while gm or higher is listed for moving another player. A server may rename, restrict, or expand these capabilities. A permission error is therefore not proof that the command syntax is wrong.
Build 42.21 versus older examples
PZFANS describes its procedure as verified for Build 42.21. PZ Manual notes that its historical examples were not run on Build 42.21 and advises checking the installed server’s command help. This difference matters because command aliases, argument order, and role checks can change between branches. Run /help, then per-command help, on the server where you intend to teleport players.
Exact map set matters
Coordinates are meaningful only within the same world configuration. A base-game coordinate can point somewhere else when a mod adds, removes, or shifts map cells. Record coordinates together with the server’s map list and mod load order, and test a destination with an administrator before using it as a player rendezvous point.
Troubleshooting failed or dangerous teleports

Administrative practices that prevent problems
- Announce the move: tell players who is being moved and why, especially during a role-play session or event.
- Use a staging tile: maintain a tested, open ground location rather than teleporting into a building interior.
- Keep a coordinate note: store X, Y, and Z together with the map and mod configuration that produced them.
- Test with an administrator: verify a new destination before sending an inexperienced player there.
- Prefer full names: aliases are convenient but less clear in logs and may not exist on every branch.
- Check the response: an apparent lack of movement can indicate a rejected command, a disconnected target, or a destination that looks similar to the origin.
Teleportation can bypass locked doors, travel time, and hazards that are central to a survival server. Use it deliberately, and consider recording administrative moves if your community expects transparent moderation.
