Increase item stacks by editing the ItemStackSizeMultiplier value in your server’s SandboxSettings.ini. A value of 1.0 is the normal default; host guides generally document a range from 1.0 through 30.0. Stop the server, back up the save and configuration, edit the file under the [SandboxSettings] section, then restart and verify the result in-game.
The exact file path and whether an existing world accepts the change depend on your hosting panel and installation. Confirm the location shown by your host before editing, and keep a rollback copy in case the panel regenerates or overwrites the file.

What ItemStackSizeMultiplier changes
ItemStackSizeMultiplier controls how many units of an item can occupy one inventory slot. It is a multiplier rather than a universal stack-count override, so the visible result depends on the item’s normal stack limit. For example, increasing the multiplier can make a material occupy fewer slots, while an item with a different base limit may show a different final count.

Server guides commonly list 1.0 as the default and describe an allowed range of 1.0 to 30.0. The setting is written as a plain decimal number, such as 2.0 or 10.0. Values above the range reported by your host should not be assumed to work; use the limits and validation rules shown in your own panel or configuration editor.
No official developer or publisher reference for this setting was identified in the available material. The behavior, range and paths below come from third-party hosting guides, a Steam community guide and a community dedicated-server repository snapshot dated October 14, 2026. Treat host-specific instructions as authoritative for your installation.
Before you edit the server
Changing a live configuration is the easiest way to lose the change or damage a save. Complete these checks first:
- Record the world name and the server host or control panel you use.
- Stop the server completely. Do not edit while the process is running; one host guide warns that a restart can overwrite an edit made to a live file.
- Download or copy the current
SandboxSettings.iniand make a separate backup of the world or save directory. - Ask players to disconnect and note the server’s current stack behavior so you can compare it after the restart.
- Check whether your host exposes a Settings or General Server Config page. A panel-generated configuration may take precedence over an FTP-uploaded file.
Keep the backup outside the server directory or give it a clear name such as SandboxSettings-before-stack-change.ini. If the server fails to start, restoring that copy is faster than trying to reconstruct the original settings.

Find the correct SandboxSettings.ini file
There is no single path that applies to every Abiotic Factor server. The following locations are reported by different providers:

The different paths are not interchangeable guesses. If you find several files, identify which one the launch configuration or panel loads. Editing a dormant copy will have no effect. When the panel has a built-in Settings tab, use its documented file or export the generated configuration to see the active location.
When the file does not exist
Some host instructions expect the file to be present in the world folder. Another provider reports that sandbox settings may be stored in the world data instead of being automatically written to an INI file. Do not create multiple files at random. First check the host’s configuration page and startup parameters.
For an installation that does not generate an INI automatically, XGamingServer’s guidance suggests creating the file yourself and loading it with the -SandboxIniPath launch parameter. The parameter must point to the file you created, using the path syntax required by your operating system and host panel. Confirm that the panel preserves custom launch parameters after a restart.

Change the multiplier step by step
- Stop the server. Use the panel’s Stop command and wait until the process is fully offline. If you manage the process directly, verify that the dedicated-server process has exited.
- Back up the save and current configuration. Download the world folder and the existing
SandboxSettings.ini, if present. - Open the active file. Navigate to the host-confirmed world or server configuration path. Use the panel editor or an FTP/SFTP client, depending on your provider.
- Locate the sandbox section. The setting belongs under
[SandboxSettings]. Preserve that section header and leave unrelated settings unchanged. - Add or replace the line. Enter a plain decimal value in this format:

ItemStackSizeMultiplier=2.0- Save the file as plain text. Do not add quotation marks, percentage signs or comments to the value. Make sure the filename remains
SandboxSettings.ini, notSandboxSettings.ini.txt. - Start the server. Watch the console or panel log for a normal startup. If the panel rewrites the file, stop again and check which value it retained.
- Verify with a controlled test. Join the affected world, collect enough of one ordinary resource to fill part of a slot, and inspect the displayed quantity. Test more than one item because the multiplier’s result depends on each item’s base stack behavior.
If your host’s panel has a numeric field instead of a file editor, enter the number there, apply or save the settings, and restart as requested by the panel. Do not edit the file afterward unless the panel documentation says that manual changes are supported; a panel may regenerate the file from its own stored values.
Choosing a useful value
Start with a modest increase and raise it only after confirming that the server and players behave as expected. The number is not a percentage: 2.0 means a two-times multiplier, not a two-percent increase.

Because the game applies the multiplier to item stack rules, do not promise players that every item will display exactly the multiplier number. Test ammunition, resources, consumables and any items that matter to your server’s economy before announcing a new limit.

Guidance conflicts on whether sandbox settings are created only at world creation or can be changed safely on an existing world. XGamingServer reports that settings can be set at world creation and stored in the world save data; its workaround is to create an INI and load it through -SandboxIniPath. BisectHosting describes the settings as global and autosaved, while Wabbanode exposes them through a control-panel Settings tab. These descriptions may reflect different server builds or host implementations.

Use this decision path for an established world:
- Change the value through the host’s supported Settings interface, if one exists.
- If the host instructs you to edit an INI, stop the server, back up the world, edit the active file and restart.
- Test the existing world with a harmless item before making a public announcement.
- If the value reverts, has no visible effect or disappears after restart, contact the host and ask whether the setting is embedded in the save, generated by the panel or loaded from a custom path.
- Only create a new world as a last resort after confirming that the host cannot apply the change to your current save.
Do not delete or recreate a world merely because the first file you edited did nothing. A wrong path, panel overwrite or missing launch parameter can produce the same symptom as an unsupported existing-world change.

File-manager or FTP servers
Stop the instance, open the world folder identified by the host, download the existing file, edit it locally or in the panel editor, upload the replacement, and restart. Check the modification time and reopen the file after saving to confirm that the line still reads the value you entered.
Control panels with a Settings tab
Some providers expose sandbox options without requiring direct file access. Enter the multiplier in that interface, save the configuration and perform the panel’s restart. If both a Settings field and an INI are visible, treat the panel field as the source of truth unless the provider explicitly says otherwise.
Servers requiring -SandboxIniPath
Create a dedicated SandboxSettings.ini containing the [SandboxSettings] section and multiplier line, then add -SandboxIniPath followed by the file path in the server’s startup configuration. The exact quoting and path syntax are host-dependent. Confirm in the startup log that the argument is present; otherwise the server may continue using its embedded world settings.

Troubleshooting a stack-size change that did not work
The game still shows the old stack count
- Confirm the server was stopped before editing and restarted afterward.
- Recheck that you edited the active world directory, not a similarly named backup or test world.
- Open the file after restart to see whether the host rewrote
ItemStackSizeMultiplierto its previous value. - Check capitalization and spelling: use exactly
ItemStackSizeMultiplier. - Test a second item. A changed multiplier does not guarantee an identical visible increase for every item.
- If the world predates the change, ask the host whether its build stores sandbox settings in save data or requires a launch parameter.
The server fails to start
- Stop the instance and restore the backed-up configuration.
- Check for accidental quotation marks, extra characters or a malformed section header.
- Confirm that the file is named
SandboxSettings.iniand saved as plain text. - Remove unrelated edits, start the server with the original file, then reapply only the multiplier line.
- Read the panel’s startup log for a path or parameter error before attempting another change.
The value keeps reverting
A reverting value usually indicates that a control panel, autosave routine or server restart is regenerating the file. Make the change in the panel’s Settings interface, or follow the provider’s required workflow rather than repeatedly uploading the same file. Keep a dated copy of the accepted configuration so you can prove which value the server retained.
Only one world changed
That is expected when the setting is stored per world. Compare the paths carefully and apply the change to each world that should use it. If your provider documents a global configuration instead, do not copy a per-world file over it without a backup.
How to roll back safely
- Stop the server and tell connected players that inventory behavior is being restored.
- Replace the edited file with the backup made before the change, or set
ItemStackSizeMultiplier=1.0through the supported panel. - Start the server and test a resource stack in the affected world.
- Keep the changed file in a separate archive rather than deleting it, so you can compare values if the host overwrites the configuration again.
Changing the multiplier does not require deleting items or rebuilding a world. The important safeguard is to stop the server and preserve the original save and configuration before experimenting.

Operational considerations for a multiplayer server
Tell players the exact multiplier and whether it applies to one world or all worlds. A large increase changes how quickly storage fills, how many inventory slots expeditions consume and how much material players can transport in one trip. Those are gameplay-policy decisions rather than technical requirements, so set expectations before changing a shared server.
Document the final value, file path, date and host-panel method in your server notes. If a future migration moves the world to another provider, the record helps you locate the new configuration and recognize that the path may have changed. Keep the backup until players have confirmed that their inventories and containers behave normally after a restart.
